These kits I have got mainly for free through work and colleagues (I work for a gaming magazine). As for the rest of the collection, there really isn't any trick. I dont have a high paying job, I've just put any leftover money (after bills and living expenses) towards games, it adds up over the years.
Or buy them from someone who is affiliated with the press or dev's or is one themselves. Never bought one from somebody who just collects then resells them though. Just have to find the guys who dont want to actually collect them
