- The official trailer for indie sci-fi film Primer, first released in 2004. The film was written, directed, produced, edited and scored by Shane Carruth, who also stars.
See it back in cinemas at the IFI as part of the Dark Skies festival of Science Fact and Fiction on Friday 14th July 2017 at 18.40

If anyone is reading these comments wondering if the movie Primer is any good then listen up: It’s incredible. If you’re into sci-fi and time travel you’ll love it. You wont understand it, but you’ll love it anyway.

Saw this in the IFI back when it was first being shown there. Never been quite so blown away by a movie. Staggering debut by an auteur that should be better known than he is.
You're telling me one dude wrote, directed, produced, edited, and scored this thing? I always knew Hollywood was an over bloated mess but damn this dude puts entire movie studios, with massive budgets and teams, to shame.
Big budget movies are getting worse every year. Support independent films!

What a great movie. I had to read an explanation to fully understand the movie after it ended. But man oh man, was my mind blown. Kudos!!!!
I saw it twice, then once more a year+ later. Thought at that point I'd figured it out. Then I saw the diagram of the timeline(s) and realized I was WAY off in how many loops there were!

I don't think it's about the style. You've probably watched the film first and then the trailer. That's why you can focus on "the style"
Personally, I don't know anything about the film, I've just heard about it and seen the trailer and It's not appealing at all. I'll still watch it, but it's a bad trailer.

Guys I FUCKING LOVE YOU! (That's to the movie and trailer creators).
Finally a trailer that doesn't fuck up the main event by spoiling it, but instead... in a wierd way... Primes (pun fuckin fully intended =D) you in... a psychologically very interesting and good way for the main event. And still achieves the purpose of filtering out and luring in types of people who belong to the target audience... :)

Whipsmart Blonde I remember lots of lines, my favorite being "what's worse? Thinking you're paranoid or knowing you should be?". I mean, it's an amazing film considering the dude studied mathematics and then decided to be an indie film maker (this being his first film). He made this almost entirely on his own, edited, produced, directed, written by him. He starred in his own movie and even made the music himself. On top of that, the budget was 7000 dollars! Give him a little credit

@blonde ...ive seen primer 5 or 6 times and i still dont get it all. ive even watched explanations of it on you tube, and they make sense, sort of. if i may borrow from shendue .... it has one of the most clever plots ever written. EVER..............if you want to stretch your mind to the outer limits , then watch primer............then watch it again.
"I haven't eaten since later this afternoon."
That one line shows more imagination and thought than 99% of the garbage written in Hollywood.
"Man, are you hungry? I haven't eaten since later thus afternoon". If you know what this film is about, then you'll understand why that is a "memorable" line.
Going to watch this on shrooms seems like quite the movie for it

I watched it, hoping the plot will be good but it was boring, bad dialogues, the scientific garbage they said didn't make sense in relation to time travel at all, final conclusion absolutely worst, uninteresting, not appealing twist, I didn't care the fact it was recorded on low cost camera, but the editing and footage was just purely sad and very badly done, some of you here are praising it to the heavens but it was boring and not leaving any positive feeling afterwards. (We watched it as 5 friends, all share this opinion)

Freaking wasted my time, just finished Back to the future and google recommended this movie and I watched half way through still didn't understand the movie or didn't experience from the movie of any time traveling action or sense it's like freaking waste of a time! Like English is my 2nd language maybe that's why I dont get the conversation occurred in the scenes.
the only thing the two have in common is time manipulation. they honestly couldn't be further apart from each other lol. But no, you're not dumb for not catching everything. it has a notorious reputation for a lot of ppl at being extremely tough to follow. Especially after like the halfway point. But its more about the experience and atmosphere then truly getting everything. Its not that complicated imo on a rewatch.

If you can't show me your best scenes & some coherent story line in a full minute, then going to a minute and a half isn't going to help you. To me it means that there's simply no story here or interest. There nothing here that makes me say "Hey, I gotta see this!" Frankly it simply looks boring as hell.
I remember seeing the early trailer for "Clerks" and even though it was in Black & White, you got the feeling that it could be really funny. When I saw the trailer for "El Mariachi", I thought to myself "Hell, no way I'm missing this!" When I saw this trailer I thought "This looks so bad it actually annoys me! Why would anyone ever pay good money to see this crap?!"
In fact, I don't know if I'd even watch this for free/ " I'm sure "Eraserhead" was made for much less & it honestly looked cheesy in B&W, BUT at least it's weirdness drew in audiences by word of mouth. This just looks like more Yuppies running around yapping their mouths off = Zzz Zzz Zzz
Eraserhead was actually made for $3000 more.

+ justin romang I will take your word for it and search it out to watch. Is it Sci-fi or the end of the world. On second viewing of the clip that is what it seemed. But I will let myself be surprised.
I hadn't noticed that it was posted by the Irish Film Institute. I have great admiration for Ireland and their film making abilities. So I will give it a go.

I highly recommend subtitles if you have that option - sometimes it can be difficult to make out what they're saying. Other than that, this is a great film!
