You missed the part where it showed the kid named Aaron the neighbors son and the guest the bird demon guy who makes a deal. And the kid you play as at the end is the neighbors son and the main villain of the franchise is the vid demon named the guest.

You are meant to save Maritza (Baseball bat girl) but I'm not sure what you did. Also the kid you save at the end was Niki, he's the kid you play as in Hello neighbor 1. Btw just some lore is that his wife died in that car crash you see as Finch (slingshot girl) and his son (the kid you play as at the end) killed the sister idk if it was an accident or not but he also locks his son in the basement. Quite sad actually. Also he's scared of the guest (the crow you play as at the end) because the crow is kind of a group of people who curse the town to have bad luck.
The neighbor is scared of you because you are the guest. The guest kidnapped the neighbor in the prequel to hello neighbor 2. Then you end up saving him in that game.
dude I really should have looked more into the lore of hello neighbor, I used to watch speedruns and playthroughs of the original game but I didn't do much in terms of following the story.
Yup I definitely think I'm gunna play through again and just see what else we can maybe find, also didn't get all the coins so there's more I want to do for sure!
My theory is that when Nikki gets saved in act 2 in the original hello neighbor by that cardboard kid that was actually the kid who you play as in the end of this game

In act 2 of the first game, aron unlocks the room you are locked in after the neighbor catches you at the end of act 1, which is what happens before the credits in this game. I hope this helped!

the neighbor is just one of those villains that is just misunderstood, the man just lost his family and he's grieving also, i'm pretty sure the reason the kid you play as towards the end (while you switch between him and the crow) is locked up is because the neighbor has lost his wife and daughter, and to prevent him from losing his son too, he locks him up. not sure if i'm right, i think i remember hearing that somewhere lol. loved this game!

The reason you couldn't save the bat girl is because you pulled one of the levers to early when you jumped
