Man Evicts Squatters From His Parents’ Home

  • After his dad died, Flash Shelton says his mother needed to sell their home. When realtors tried to list the property, they found someone already living there. Shelton suspected it was a woman who he told could not rent the home. However, she moved into the California property anyway. Shelton drove 10 hours from Los Angeles to enter the home. Once there, he noticed boxes and furniture everywhere. When the squatter returned to the property, Shelton gave her until midnight to move out.

It's not just california. In the US, the police have no duty to help nor to provide policing services to any member of the public and it's been that way for decades. The worst case, imo is Warren v District of Columbia. In the 1970s, several female roommates and a 4 year old girl were r*ped for 14 hours by home intruders. Twice they were able to call the police for help. The first cop drove by without stopping. The 2nd cop left when the r*pists wouldn't let the victims answer the door. The women sued and lost, with court again ruling, cops don't have to help us. A more recent case is Castlerock v Gonzales. A woman had a restraining order against her ex husband. He took their children so she called police to enforce the restraining order. They refused and the husband murdered all the children. She sued and lost because cops don't have to enforce restraining orders and because they've had qualified immunity since 1981, they're protected from being sued, even when their refusal to help costs kids their lives.

It's amazing to me how the law works. It's scary to know if a stranger comes in your home you can't kick them out.

"Removal of trespassers" because police officers refuse to do that job now. Eviction would be if it was a rental property. It wasn't a rental property, so they weren't tenants, they were trespassers.
