Good ol pier fishing, I remembered when I caught a Halibut off of Newport Beach, CA. Literally had to get everyone to pull in their fishing poles so I can bring it up.

The grouper here in Queensland are protected. You can't even fish for them. If caught as bycatch then you have to release them as soon as possible. Huge fines apply.

That’s is when a Action Hat would have been a better camera angle for that type fishing. Look into bud for sure better for us instead of look at arms and hands

You guys should set up jackpots with people on the pier. Keep it cheap, dollar or two entry, derby go for biggest fish within a time limit like and hour or two. You guys aren't allowed because of equipment reasons but help everyone like a deckhand would on a boat. Work the net, keep tally, winner take all or have a first, second, third place. Don't take any proceeds, all for the people. Fun to watch and build community.

Another specie plagued with over regulation ... you are well aware of our mismanagement of snappers in the gulf and the results of that, Brant .... Cool video though!
Noticed real soon that you guys are over head casting. On the peer i fished off of in Huntington Beach California it was illegal to over head cast. You could only underhand cast. To keep from throughing the bait off on long casts we used a slide bait.toss the sinker and let it settle then take a snap swivel with a leader and light weight and baited hook and let it slide down. That's how i would catch halibut the largest was as big as the windshield of a 63 VW bug.
tell me thats not in florida or something, my only offshore fishing pier fell down cause of hurricane hanna and i really want to fish on a big pier. it really sucks to not have bob hall pier.

I can’t tell but it looks like your fishing mono. Take it from an old oil rig fisherman. Switch over to braided , it doesn’t stretch. We lock down the drag and horse them out. Once they get in the rig they are gone.

Tell your buddy to put a couple wraps of that rope around the hand rail of the pier, that will make the hand rail hold all the weight and it won’t be bad to raise or lower.

Goliaths are just great to catch. Put them up with catching Bronze Whaler sharks off the beach.
