Somehow the power antenna on my '89 still works (though the radio doesn't), but when it inevitably fails, this video will be very helpful! Thanks Tony!
The antenna mast is just the stalk and plastic cable, but they are no longer available. We took the radio out of the wrecked car and put it in the black car. We did a video on it. The antenna is still in the car. The weather isn't fit to do anything outside.
Very informative for us tc owners I never knew the switch could be the issue for the power seats but I replaced my antenna 10 years ago it's pretty easy
Excellent video Tony. Keep them coming. I watch every one of your videos and find them very helpful, because I have a Special Edition Signature Series Gucci in Twilight Blue and want to learn as much as possible. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us all.
imagine how amazing and "space age" these cars were in 1980, digital dash, keypad entry, all the buttons on the dash, etc. what an amazing piece of history. These cars were so $$$$$ back in the day!!! Same as like a $80,000 car today!!
I had a 1986 TC with over 250k on it and the power antenna kept working but I sold it. I had a 89 TC with 37k on it and the power antenna never failed. I wish I kept the 89 TC. The right rear window didn't work on the 89 TC but I had it fixed. Even the power trunk motors always worked on both. My 98 TC did not have a power trunk pull-down. Neither did my 2013 MKS (not MKZ). But my 2020 Continental has the soft-close trunk lid which I appreciate. Excellent video!!!!
Thank you very much! Mom and dad had an 85 Town Car with 348k miles when they sold it, still running and driving, and everything worked because I kept it working. We never replaced the power antenna.
It’s too bad replacement power antenna mast is no longer being produced, this is one time it would be good if China would make a knock off replacement part, or the entire unit, great video Tony, thank you
Tony, your trunk 👀 liner look’s really clean in good condition. Town car looks pretty nice condition. Just the front leather seats, show wear. RU going to put original radio back in car, take out the gross one in there now? 😊 This car will be all fixed up before U know it. Very nice! 😊
Yeah, the leather simply wasn't cared for very well. I will put an original radio back in if I can have it repaired. Or I'll find an earlier one that's more dependable.
I had to rebuild the antenna on my 95 Trans Am for that same reason. It was broken when i bought it 20 years ago. These days i just leave it down and unplugged even though it works now.
@@tonyscarcare5657 iirc the mast I put in there from ebay like 15 years ago started resting at the top so I jist unplugged it. I miss my 93 thunderbird's antenna that had a button you could raise and lower it with. On the Trans Am, it comes up automatically when the stereo is on.
I replaced the mast on my 88 crown vic my motor worked but it didn't go all the way down once at the car wash and the brush snapped it found a nos one at a swap meet followed the step in the shop manual lot easier the pulling the fender lose. I'm gonna get that pick set, I'm like you i like everything to work next project is getting the clock to work in my 67 XL it's the only thing that doesn't work it was working then stopped the points need cleaned but its a PIA to get out.
@tonyscarcare5657 it was a whole power antnna assembly i just pulled the mast out and put it in the cars assembly ive still got an extra working motor if i ever need it plus i oil the mast regularly tip i learn from the owners manual of my 88 Chevrolet caprice classic, mom and dad had bought a dealer demo 97 thunderbird it didn't go all the way down so i oiled it up it worked perfectly till it rusted out and went to the scrapyard
Hi Tony it was fun to see you do this work, and I hav a question about older cars in the US, have you heard something about that you maybe son this year hav to either skrap older cars because they use gasoline? Her in Sweden the EU want us to do the same in some years or put them in a museum. And thank you for always answer my comments thank you very musch for that.👍👍
You know I always wondered why Ford didn't use fully automatic power antennas. They did for one year in 84 and then switched back in 85. I later found out that the 84s were plagued with electrical issues when the motor would not shut off when fully retracked or extended causing shorts and overloads
Tony, at least Lincoln and other Ford models put the power antenna in the trunk for easy access. Chryslers in the 70's put theirs in the front passenger fender. 🇨🇦
Somehow the power antenna on my '89 still works (though the radio doesn't), but when it inevitably fails, this video will be very helpful! Thanks Tony!
You're welcome! All of the radios stop working. I'm hoping to send some off for repair.
So what's the antenna mas? Ask about the after market radio Lincoln that was in the accident still have it power antenna

Thank you! The power seat "switch" is usually usually always the problem. Now you see how easy it is to clean.
Thanks for the video Tony. A guy in our lincoln group recently messaged me asking me how to do this antenna. Close to a 90,s setup
You're welcome. Thank you! Yes, they're very similar.
Excellent video Tony.
Keep them coming.

You're welcome, Charles! Thank you!
Nice quick job! The rear mounted antennas are a lot more fun than the front mount units. Thanks as always.
You're welcome, Mike! Yep, the front ones take a lot more time.

I know, it's crazy. I've seen several nice ones lately on Facebook Market Place and priced right, but I don't need another one.

Thanks for the video! I need to replace the power antenna in my 1985 Black Town Car, and this video showed me all I need.
You're welcome. Yep, it's the exact same.
It’s too bad replacement power antenna mast is no longer being produced, this is one time it would be good if China would make a knock off replacement part, or the entire unit, great video Tony, thank you
Thanks, Dave! They sure could sell a lot of them.
You are on a roll, Tony! Keep 'em coming. 😄
I'm trying, but they sure aren't getting much attention.
I need to replace the radio. The antenna works fine. Good job Tony
Don't we all! Of course, I've got a video on that, too.
Tony, This Town Car is going to be ready to roll in style when springtime arrives! 😁
I'm sure trying, one repair at a time. Every little fix makes it seem like a different car.
🏁 thanks Tony another excellent video on replacing a power antenna 🇺🇲🏁🏁🏁😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
You're welcome. Thank you!
Love your videos ! Have a couple town cars myself . Working on a 81 Town Coupe
Thank you!
Cool! And Bog Seeger, a great project for sure
Thank you! It's coming along one repair at a time.
Tony Great Video, I plan to buy the picks
Thank you! They are great to have.

You can actually still buy a really nice replacement for those cars. The Metra brand works really well.

I know. I hate those automatic ones, too.

I haven't seen a new mast for so long, I give up. I still have several good antennas, though.

You're welcome! No, there is nothing being mentioned about having to give up any of our old cars. Thank you for always watching and commenting!
Suggestions for cleaning andor lubrication
All you can do is regular wash and use any well-known lubricant. Mine never gets dirty. 🤣
You know I always wondered why Ford didn't use fully automatic power antennas. They did for one year in 84 and then switched back in 85. I later found out that the 84s were plagued with electrical issues when the motor would not shut off when fully retracked or extended causing shorts and overloads
Then they started it again in the 90s. The fully automatic antennas break all the time on any car that has it. I'm very thankful mine doesn't have it.
@tonyscarcare5657 yep...my 94 TC had it

Believe me, I know. I've had to fight them on Cadillacs, too.
Is it the same operation to change a power antenna on a Mercury Grand Marquis that's in the right front fender
Pretty much. It's just a lot harder to get to.
cool
🙂
Howdy Tony it's cold here in ga . How you been ?Been watching all your videos.
Thanks, buddy! It's freaking freezing up here!
