    Very helpful. Yes we do need a bug-out bag, useful all the time for even the smallest emergency. I carry certain things with me all the time, even though it's not a bug-out bag it does contain meds, water and at least one meal. My dog has her tatical harness and she carries a meal for herself and water, and first aid which I can use on both of us. At home I have a bug-out bag with more in ofcourse.

    Your bag is your bag if you need it are capable of carrying it then do so. Remember travel light freeze at night . Fair play to any prepper who has the skills and ability to survive with just the minimum , but most people dont have military or survival. And often over estimate there skill . Trust me its better to carry it and not have an imidiate need for it rather than a imidiate need for it and do not have it

      Don't disagree, the point I'm trying to get across is folks to make a realistic assessment of their ability to carry a load based on their age,fitness and familiarity with rocking along with a pack. Same applies to the load out, season and need vrs want. If folks want it,can carry etc, absolutely no drama at all.

    Yes. Burying a stash is a good way to go.
    But forget the coins. Bury it close to a metal post and criss-cross it with old (preferably) barbed wire and a couple of condoms! This WILL stop them digging down even more. It's hard to pull at the wire if you spread it across the ground and grow some deep rooting plants, too. When you have buried it and have covered it on the top with the wire, you then cover it some more. This will attract weeds (nature hates a blank canvas and will fill it with fast growing weeds). You then mix in a couple of condoms.
    Need I say more? 😅
    Keep an eye on it. Bury it in the spring. Don't camp near it when you do, or rodents and foxes will dig it up.
    Tell me I'm wrong! 😂😂
    Cheers 🇬🇧
    Edit.
    Personally, I do need one, or rather a get home bag. I live in Wales but I work in London sometimes. If I need to bug away from home I will simply drive there as its more of a personal reason rather than a country wide situation. I'd stay with relatives. In a shed or my big tent.
    For my get home bag, My route is 200miles minimum. That's plenty necessity for a selection of goodies to get back.
    I have a fold up bike. I have lots of food. I hold lots of money. I have one stash in the border of Wales that has the ability to get across the Severn River. Or the bridge. I also have letters with my Welsh address so I can get across the bridge. I'll carry my goodies in two carrier bags as I cross. To the coppers at each end will be satisfied I'm just unlucky to be there. If this fails, I have my stash.

      Will you be carrying the tools you need to dig it up or will you be physically able to if you're weak or injured?
      You would also have to be wary of the soil types you're using as nice damp soil in Winter may turn to concrete in Summer, it does in many places here.

    I plan to bug in with all of my hard earned goodies 🙂
    Where I live is a pretty stable area with no natural dangers to worry about, medical issues and having no where to go are also big factors. I do have a go bag, if I need to get whipped into hospital (clothes, money, wash kit, book / glasses, sweets, medical history).
    I have one of the wind up radios (as per prepper etiquette) but have for some time been wondering if it is worth having. if it all goes belly up, who are we going to listen to ? Unlike the US, we in the UK don't have a NOAA station so are going to be left with the BBC, as possibly the biggest broadcaster and they are not really known for their helpful and truthful broadcasts 😞
    If an EMP is involved that will fry any broadcasting system, so even if your radio is protected by a faraday bag, it is likely to turn out to be as helpful as a paperweight 😞
    Where are you finding the 30lt drums ?

    • @Scottishprepper73
      @Scottishprepper73  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      30l drums , I got mine of ebay buddy.re the radio.
      Lack of any transmission on the radio has value in it self. No news is still news . Ie you know things are not normal as no traffic on the radio, this alone alerts you to a problem. It is probably the first thing to come back as well. So doubly usefully.

    • @Nellyontheland
      @Nellyontheland 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You have thought this through. Good job! Your thoughts are similar to my own.
      The radio thing...
      There will be broadcasting every hour to repeat any news. This is what all major radio channels will be doing. They have to by law apparently.
      It will be on a loop. So only turn on the radio on the hour.
      I use this tactic for the phone too. Every hour, on the hour... but choose a time that is NOT on the dot. Choose a time like every 10 past the hour. Send a text. Raise it high to send and receive.
      When contact is made, agree on a longer duration making sure that those in receipt of your text understand that you might miss a text or be late at any time. So after that, just go back to your hourly until you get in touch again. This gives you a time to set up camp, but still have time to reach a summit to send the hourly.

    I have a few bugout bags/get home bags,but there also my camping bags/adventure bags i just swap kit and items out of them for different scenarios/adventures and time of year,so most of my kit gets used every year, when it comes to cordage I've got paracord/bank line and bungees,most of my shelter set ups are ready to go,bungees save a lot of time,but I've got jungle knots which are smaller and lighter,yes i totally agree with you about bugging out,i walk 3 miles with 18 kilo of kit to my camping spot,and its not a walk in the park its a hell of a work out,do those life straws filter out everything ?,i have that same folding stove that you have,but i also have the bushbox.

      @Scottishprepper73  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Life straws are excellent filters but with a dose of caution, be realistic in the source.
      Never use any heavily contaminated source in the first place unless absolutely necessary, prefilter heavy particulate contaminates with even a sock etc or linen handy to stop filter clogging up

    I've said this many times bugging out is definitely an American thing and so is these ridiculous bags I'm seeing....UK is limited in size all these people running to the wild will find quickly every one has same idea and the wild some becomes congested. Bug in definitely the way however bug out in UK should be a mobile idea not a stationary idea due to limit of space. I.e. if bugging out make sure you're constantly moving locations not setting up shop on someone's farm or national park...as for the bag pretty much standard some essentials your golden. Knowledge is your biggest gift the more you know less you carry. Simples

    All the bug out bags you see are designed for a single person such as the mess tins and camp stoves but what about families with young families? I dont mean babies but children who cant carry much

    • @Scottishprepper73
      @Scottishprepper73  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Here is the big problem with bugging out.
      1.bugg out to where? Really need to have a place already checked out in advance preferably.
      2.the party is always going to be limited to its oldest,youngest or unfit person in the group.
      3. Kids are resilient, absolutely a child of 5 or 6 can carry a small rucksack with some meal pouches in it and a water bottle,make it a game,an adventure, take them camping etc and let them practice.
      It's not possible for one person in the group to be muffin the mule and carry everyone's kit, personal kit can and should be carried in their own bug out bag Inc the kids ,adults can spread out other items as and when needed.
      So kids don't have to carry mess tins etc and stoves , you don't need a stove for everyone anyways but a wee jacket and some food and water, definitely can.
      Thoughts?

    • @kettleisalwayson
      @kettleisalwayson 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree young ones can carry a water clothes meal pouches but all the packs you see are definitely aimed at single men. I am not being sexist and you do have to adapt your pack depending on your needs but the mess kits aren't practical for a family they are too small to cook a meal for a family and if you use individual kits for each individual then you could be stuck in one place for a lot longer than you may feel safe to. I know with bug out the aim is to get to somewhere safe but it's the journey there which would be the most dangerous. I don't know what the answer is but it is a concern.

    • @Scottishprepper73
      @Scottishprepper73  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kettleisalwayson no , your not being sexist at all, didn't mean to suggest you are.
      Communal cooking is generally the best for a small group while camping or bug out etc. Also, there is options re anerican rat packs with flameless heater pouches where you just add a little water and stick the food in the bag and let it heat
      If its a small group of say 4 people ,2 fit adults, 2 kids age 6 and 7 one of the adults could pack a larger pot to stick all the meal pouches in or rice etc.
      It's really really scenario dependent with regard to age and health, time of the year ie cold,snow or summer very hot etc .if its specific to your own situation look at your local area, see where you could realisticly get too, and by at least two routes . You could also put food and kit caches en route and Bury em( I've done a video on this with 30l Plastic barrels)
