i saw the film last night and.... wow... i was really touched by both paul dano and john cusack as they displayed that humanity in wilson as they were both overlooked as is elizabeth banks as melinda who really embodies a woman who saw that humanity and did whatever to save him.

I completely freaked when I saw this trailer, I had no idea they were making a movie about Brian Wilson. It is so "time" that "his story" is told. You know that group running around these days calling themselves The Beach Boys, they're just living off of Brian's legacy.

    Dano. Best Actor. Oscar. Please.

I wonder if the real Brian Wilson going into the studio and interacting with the actors playing the 1960s Beach Boys is like a journey to the past for him, at which he gets to relive the moments when the band members were young and happy together, as well as seeing his brothers Dennis and Carl alive again.

Both - Dano and Cusack are excellent actors. Dano was fantastic in 'Youth' too.

"We can't wait for June" "God only knows..." that this looks good! Really looking forward to this movie. Brian Wilson is deserving of love and recognition for some of the greatest music ever written.

Paul Dano is just great! As always though :) And I like his physical changes in the movie.
Can't wait to see him in BBC TV series "War and peace", acting Pierre Bezukhov. I wonder if Paul can actually feel the Russian soul.

I love John Cusack, but they should've used Dano in both eras.

I know it's a 2 year old comment but I think I prefer both representing the two eras. Doesn't feel too dragged and pretty fresh. But hey that's a cool opinion ya made. Made me think more about it.

I totally agree. Paul Dano did a great job. I don't think casting Cusack was a good idea. He was great in High Fidelity, but I wasn't convinced with him as Brian Wilson. Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks were excellent too......

I really liked this movie but didn’t quite get the casting choice for Cusack.

@@KC-fb8ql Exactly. The movie would be an A movie otherwise. My heart sank when I found out Cusack got the part. Dano was awesome.

This was great, but I would have preferred Paul Dano doing young and old Brian Wison. Cusak was a little too mannered for me, besides the jarring difference of two completely different looking actors playing the same person.

2 comments : as a lifetime fan from the very beginning, I was awestruck by how both actors captured BW in those 2 radically differing eras. That said, I felt the film was far too short, & it didn't explain who Eugene Landy was, how he came to be in BW's life, or just who paid for his service & care, especially in the beginning. --I wish the film had just gone for it, & given at least some time to the BW of the 70's. Because without that context, who he was in the 80's is far less understood. Understanding his mental /physical & emotional disintegration due to drug use, the loss of his marriage, & the pressure to still be a Beach Boy,& how all of these forces played a role in the crisis intervention the group undertook in '82 , to hire Landy & save BW's life. By then, he was 340 Lbs, & at the rate he was going, he had months to live. Landy stepped in, & did help BW; that's a fact. THE unfortunate thing is in that process, he also became so enamored with being a Rock-star, he--Landy--lost all of his professional principles, & became BW's "Partner". THAT'S when Melinda Ledbetter entered, & saw how controlling Landy had become by that time, around '85/86. . ------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o

John Cusack was the wrong fit for this movie. You saw way to much John and not enough Brian Wilson.

I find it absolutely hysterical to listen to Hollyweird trying to analyze and explain Brian Wilson and try to sound like they know what they're talking about when they couldn't buy a clue 🤣🤣
