    Mail order chicks.... I thought those all came from Russia.

    I'm glad you kept electricity. The heat lamp is important till they feather. We would dip their beaks in water also. There are always people who insist that you don't need to.
    Maybe not, that's how we did it.
    Thank you Steve.

    • @AnglesideFarm
      @AnglesideFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? I always heard that is what got them going to eat and drink.
      Our electricity stayed on but dad lost his and he’s just across a 40 acre field from me.
      Thanks Bryce

    That's amazing that 70 chicks can come in a box that small and that they can be mailed. They sure are cute. That's something else my wife wants me to get back into (along with pigs and cattle).

    Glad they all made it there ok! I guess we missed out on all the ice, just got rain in central Indiana. Was 63 here today on my lunch break, down to 36 now. My wife wanted to get chickens the year after we got married, so we went and ordered some from rural king. They came in a few weeks later, and when we went to get them Amanda walked up to the counter and said "we're here to pick up chicks" and the girl gave us a blank stare...then she figured it out. I was dying laughing. Thanks for the video Steve! Stay warm and hope you have a good one!

      @@AnglesideFarm I keep telling everyone that we do... That's why I've got the picture of the semi covered in snow on my page.
      Used to have snow most of the winter. Now it seems like a skiff here and there.. or a foot to 3 feet all at once. Really messes up traffic anymore, all the Comifornians that have moved here, can't drive on clear roads, so snow and ice really get them... watching the news now, only things moving are chained up.

    I sure like seeing baby chicks. That might be redundant, but I like the way it sounds.
    We may have dodged a bullet with this ice storm.
    Since the 2520 isn’t back together yet, I brought one of the 520’s up to the shop so that if the power went out, I could hook it up to the generator. That way I only have to mess with one overhead door without power. The book on the generator says it needs a minimum of 30 horsepower to run it. So that leaves out the 25 horsepower Kubota.
    Thanks for sharing this Steve. Between your new chicks and Ed’s baby calves, I am getting caught up on cuteness.

    I haven't had chickens since I was a kid and I think I need to do it again. My problem is I've got so many wild critters raccoons and foxes and opossums and mink I need to get my barn sealed up good. I looked in the grocery store the other day and a whole chicken was $13. It looked like it was one of the sick runts.

    • @AnglesideFarm
      @AnglesideFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the time to mess with them, you can sell all you can grow....at least around here and with meat getting recalled all the time it has consumers "flocking" to growers. People are willing to pay more knowing where and how it was raised. Try a small batch and test the waters in your area.
