    In this first chapter, Matt heads to Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, which is also known as the "Ciudad Folclórica" or the Folklore City. Locals from Santa Cruz are proud of the community's traditions of farming, marimba bands, and more than anything, its friendly, hardworking people who exemplify the best of Costa Rica's warm, welcoming culture.
    In this chapter Matt starts off in the Santa Cruz public park, a charming square that you'll find in all 84 of Costa Rica's "centros municipales" (municipal centers). From there we go to the bus station and out to the cattle auction...

    Super informative. I love how beautiful and almost sleepy the town seems. It's a cool speed to life. We're suppose to live our lives without this cut-throat, eat or be eaten western approach. Can't wait to move. Another awesome video. Thanks, Matt

      Santa Cruz is definitely a slow-paced place. I am always thrilled when, even if I haven’t been there in a long time, most of the vendors and people you see are still the same. Most of the people still know their neighbors, many neighbors are family.

    Well, of course I set this up wrong and instead of premiering, it's now just available and therefore there's no chat! If anyone has questions please feel free to post them here.

    Love it Matt! Hitting the town series sounds like a winner. I'm planning my next trip to Costa Rica late October early November and wanted to check out the town of Santa Cruz during this trip. Very timely information to say the least and can't wait to see what hat you end up buying :)

      The spirit of the town is caught in the final scene - I met a group of folks who get together every afternoon… they call themselves the PMs and really every day in the park a group of retired folks chat. They were sad that when I showed up there were only a few around.

    The tower of the former Church is a beautiful piece of heritage in the city, there are some other beautiful traditional buildings in the center of Santa Cruz (even what we call in Costa Rica the "tropical victorian" style, very adequate for the very hot weather of the hot, dry Guanacaste lowlands)...anyway much less than before the great fire that took place in 1992 and that burnt 3 complete city blocks.
    You could also mention in a further video about the Fiestas de Santa Cruz, which take place in January and are one of the most important popular festivals.
    Also in Santa Cruz is the restaurant Coopetortillas, where the ladies who own the cooperative cook some traditional Nicoyan/Guanacastecan food (very distinctive in many aspects from the Central Valley typical food).

      Thank you very much for these great additions and absolutely, I should have covered a bit more of the history and local institutions! Esteban by chance do you know a local bilingual tour guide who would take people on a historic tour of Santa Cruz if they were interested?

    Hey, Matt, I enjoyed this new series. Especialmente tu conversación con el guardia, Marcos Gutiérrez. You may or may not know it, but I am blind. It is obvious from the comments that you pulled off some sort of stunt at the end of the video. Perhaps you or one of your viewers could explain to me what took place. 😀

      I had zero idea! In the agricultural store that I visit, there’s a rack of ridiculous looking hats that I see when the bell rings, and a caption that says “idea.” Then “to see what happens next tune in next week.”

    Hi Matt, I am a big fan of your videos. Are you able to make/do you have a video in regards to monthly expenses? How much money should someone come to Costa Rica with?, how much should be someone's monthly income? Obviously these are all different for each person. but a general idea would be great, Family of 4. Thank you for your time :)

    • @CostaRicaMatt
      @CostaRicaMatt  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks very much for watching and commenting! I have avoided trying to do these videos somewhat like the plague because costs could vary so greatly based on your lifestyle. My family of four has enormous costs - we have three cars because of my business, we are omnivores who constantly want to eat great food, I have my kids enrolled in what I feel is the best option for our family, which likely could be wrong for others, on and on. I think a family of four should spend a lot of time renting and learning the landscape before they commit to moving here, and during that rental time you could figure out exactly what your family’s budget should/would be!
