Portugal at Eurovision is not about the showstopping tunes (although it has some as well), is more about creating a moment and/or a journey with music.
After that horrible Iceland result, this has lifted my spirits up like never before. This is the BEST way to end the National final season! Saudade did a home run and knocked the other competition out of the water. Portugal should be proud of this piece of art and music anyone can relate to! I’m nearly crying here! This is my winner for Eurovision this year!
Yes indeed, this is really beautiful....might be my favourite Portuguese entry ever in fact. It sounds just as good in both languages, to the point where it really wouldn't matter if she sung it in either English or Portuguese. The intro is lovely too.
That is because Maro decided to lean more heavily on the joy, harmonies, and 'simplicity' of the live version she did in the church in Avinyo with a few 'friends'. That recording is sheer magic, 8 voices accompanied by 4 guitars... pretty informal and 12 people truly enjoying making some wonderful music together, and they knew it was absolutely perfect. The song is so beautiful all by itself and will need no-frills whatsoever, you just do not 'bling' pure emotion. We have to talk about Portugal's streak. 2017 Salvador, 2018 O Jardim, 2019 Conan - Telemoveis (perfection), 2021 Black Mamba and now 2022 Saudade, Saudade by the impeccable MARO. Portugal at its finest form.
There is an outside chance, I think, that this could win Eurovision 2022 for Portugal. It needs a good spot in the running order, and it might just catch a vibe and touch people across the continent. Unlikely, but nothing would please me more. It has a hypnotic quality, it sounds Portuguese, and the harmonies are exquisite - it's very rare and refreshing to hear such good close-harmony singing at Eurovision.
Being Portuguese, I am so proud!!! I haven't followed the Eurovision in the last few years, so I only heard it YESTERDAY, after realizing some people love it, some people hate it (how is that even possible)... Since then it's been on repeat. To me it, it's pure soothing emotional magic...❤🇵🇹

It's a very pretty and exquisite song, was my favourite in that NF so I am satisfied with this result also because of it. See some people saying Saudade is longing, but that is heavily short to describe it, for longing we have "Sinto falta de". Saudade is hard to describe as it is missing something that was once already there, and most of times you don't know if you will ever get to have it back, either it was a moment in time, or it was someone who died or someone who moved abroad or you going to live elsewhere. Than the tricky side is most of times what we felt saudade of it hurts to remember in the first part we long even more but after a bit the remembrance usually sooths the soul. Is really hard to describe it in words. Maybe the most easy way to think is thinking of you being in the coast and seeing someone you love(a friend, a familiar or a romantic interest) going away to a distant land by sea without any means to contact that person after that(outside this internet era), you love that person that you missed him or her but the distance is killing you and there is little you can do about it than let time follow its course and maybe you will be together again, until then only the remembrance brings some relief.

Saudade is hard to describe as it is missing something that was once already there, and most of times you don't know if you will ever get to have it back, either it was a moment in time, or it was someone who died or someone who moved abroad or you going to live elsewhere. Than the tricky side is most of times what we felt saudade of it hurts to remember in the first part we long even more but after a bit the remembrance usually sooths the soul. Is really hard to describe it in words. Maybe the most easy way to think is thinking of you being in the coast and seeing someone you love(a friend, a familiar or a romantic interest) going away to a distant land by sea without any means to contact that person after that(outside this internet era), you love that person that you missed him or her but the distance is killing you and there is little you can do about it than let time follow its course and maybe you will be together again, until then only the remembrance brings some relief.
