The thing is you can’t just snorkel anywhere you like. It’s best to go with a snorkel tour - they know the best places and also provide equipment and a boat and lifeguards. I have been snorkeling for many years but I’ll never just park my car and dive in the ocean whenever I feel like it. Also, alcohol and drugs may also play a huge factor.

That's ridiculous! I think it's more like these places are putting people in the water that shouldn't be in the water.
These resorts want to make money and don't take any responsibility, those shouldn't have been in the water.

One of the biggest causes of snorkeling deaths must be the failure to use fins- people propelling themselves with their arms is a recipe for disaster, as the leg muscles are much stronger and will take longer to fatigue. The full face mask, as elaborated upon by Dublin Seven in the thread of comments, is also an invitation to disaster.

So true I snorkel myself, no matter how much experience I have I’ll never go to a full face mask to many points of failure. I’m extremely safety oriented and I am a mixed martial arts teacher assistant and I still consider snorkeling more dangerous. A lot of beginners tend to use full face masks and end up drowning due to lack of training and experience with a full face mask. While you may get a pretty view you have no purge valve once you get water in there your basically gonna drown in a mask of water😒

@@jeremyjames2643 My full face masks from SeaView allows you to blow the water right out the bottom. I have been using them for months so I have learned how to keep the water out and check the flow valve before I get in the water. My full face masks are way safer than traditional snorkel masks and tubes. I also had to learn to breathe the right amount because the tube doesn't allow for huge breaths.

@@andrewgoss6486 the new models allow for improvement buts the c02 concentration and the “leak” valve tech the prevents proper sealing and drowning ive tried a new model this year had the same issues if your going for just snorkeling with no diving I see no issues but if your a diver/spearfisher like me it would be a death sentence since we always take off the mouth part in case we faint and the mask is stuck to our faces

@@jeremyjames2643 yeah...you can't really dive with full face masks.the pressure on your face is really painful just a feet below the surface. Also, the face seals have a hard time keeping water out once you go down a few feet.

@@andrewgoss6486 it’s very dangerous if say stick to the regular set up might be around the same price or more and a lil training to get down but I’d rather not lose another diver ive lost 5 friends in my spearfishing group this year from drowning
