    Yes, another great seminar on a lens. I am used to that and grateful for it. But what amazed me this time was to watch you work with your models. Just out on the street you are able to pull good sites/venues with good light and to coax the models to shine. Impressive. You always inspire.

    Matt, Prague, my favourite city of which I have visited so many times over the years. Great you got to Jan Pazdera and Foto Skoda, two shops I've been to so often and have bought a number of cameras from both. My Leica ii Mod D first batch including lens from 1932 was bought there, it has some great history including a connection to the 310 Czech squadron RAF Duxforth, a Czechoslovakian squadron who fought in the Battle of Britain.

    Hey Matt✌
    And another perfect video in high gloss,👌 Great pictures but we know that from you👍 At least two thumbs up from me👍👍👍True it looks damn very similar to the Summicton 35. Whether I would buy it, hmmm since I already have some 35s I wouldn't necessarily. Since you mentioned that it is similar to the Nokton Classic 1.4/35 in terms of the image but also sharper. Of course you can judge it if you have it in a comparison, as you have demonstrated. As far as the weaknesses and strengths of this lens are concerned, you have to try it out for yourself. For one or the other certainly interesting even if it is significantly cheaper than an original Leica lens.👌In any case, inspiring content and very much like more.

    Nice to see another visit to Prague and to places I frequent often too (Skoda, Pazdera, Leica Gallery). The lens however seems to be a bit more contrasty and less glowy then the 35 Summiluxes I tried when I was looking for the lens (ultimately deciding the unpredictable rendering isn't for me)... maybe yours Summilux is some good example (if the Funleader performs the same). I think the original Nokton 35 1.4 (the one without II suffix) was quite close to Summilux in rendering, but again, a bit more contrasty and sharper, with better flare performance... I'm almost thinking that possibly the Nokton 35 1.4 with micro-scratched front element might be the closest thing to the original :-)

    Amazing trip to Pilzen and Prague! That little goggled summicron is still my favorite, even if it is almost to sharp for portraits hah, but on film, perfection... tbh that Artizlab lens seemed extremely glowy and soft to me, but only tried it a bit.. Nokton was an eye opener though, nice sharp and contrasty, that would be my choice for the 1.4 as 35mm is more of a walkaround and not an up close and personal see every detail on the face lens anyway :)

      The prototypes were too sharp and contrasty, opposite of the Summilux? :-) Just kidding... I'm in the camp that believes that 35 Summilux was one of the worst lenses Leica made... the lens always was polarizing, some loved all of its optical deficiencies, some considered them just a poor optical design unpredictably ruining pictures, at least when used at or close to fully open...

    I have an original 216 steel rim, the v2 (pre-a)spherical and the 8 element 'cron. So far, surprise, surprise, the steel rim is by far the best of the bunch. You kind of ducked the issue by comparing the Funleader with a v4 cron rather than the original v2 (cause you don't have one, presumably.) The V2 is nice but a bit too soft wide-open, though some people do love that effect. I like the kind of flat pastel rendering on my copy of the 8-element, but Patrick Colpron's description of it as a poor man's steel rim does strike me as about right. The double AA is undoubtedly the best of all but, apparently, those who have both that and the original steel rim, while admitting the aa is the best, use the steel rim much more.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks and very interesting. I've used the remake steel rim and it's very very soft (though I love the size!). I've used the AA a few times at workshops but not enough to make a video yet. Yes it's much bigger so the Pre-A are nicer to carry. I own the 8E and the v2 Cron. The v4 comment was just because the Leica book said the optical are identical. I like the 8E too.

      @@Trailsntacos With all due respect, how is the original comment partially true? Leica doesn’t claim to make its own sensors and it would be absurd to think they do. They are too small a company to create a silicon wafer foundry, etc.
      I don’t see how a Leica is really an undercover SONY. The two camera designs, menu systems, looks and feels are completely different. While I love using Leica cameras (I currently have 2 film and 5 digital Leicas), I also have and use other brand cameras too (1 Nikon SLR, 2 Nikon DSLRS, 1 Canon DSLR, 1 Hasselblad 500c, 1 Arca Swiss 4x5). I could also easily see buying newer non-Leica cameras that do things better than my Leicas. That said, I still prefer Leica camera’s simplicity.
