    Fantastic video!
    Did the benefits change since this video dropped? I read Citi got rid of many of the benefits. I am debating which card to get first, this one or the Bank of America Cash Rewards. I’ve been building my credit score through a local bank with a small limit but no benefits. It’s been years and I think it’s time to get another card. I plan on eventually having both cards since the Bank of America card is great for staying with just the dining option

    Among all the rewards (travel and cash back) credit cards that you have applied, would you narrow down to (3) cards you would consider the best (that promises unlimited cash back or travel points; over 2% on everything purchased; with no foreign transaction fee; preferably without AF; or less than $100 AF) ; assuming you spend over $10k annually on business and personal expenses.

    there are quite a few 2% cards now. While I unfortunately am sitting on a product-changed Double Cash I never use it. I would rather use the PenFed Power Cash Rewards as it is also 2% cash back if you leave $500 in a checking account with them, and the redemption is faster than with Citi where you have to wait until the statement generates to get the 2nd 1% back.

    • @epiksar
      @epiksar 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kalmtraveler you would also have to enroll as a penfed member since it's a credit union. There are some ways to join for free, but i think if you don't fall in those categories, you have to pay to get in

    I've had this card for about 3 months now. Its a good card , but there is a $25.00 minimum points redemption, which is a drawback though, b/c I would like to be able to access any amount for a credit or cash in. The Cap One Quicksilver that I have accumulates points as soon as the charge posts, and you can redeem any amount.

    Been thinking of which flat-rate (catch-all) cash back card to get for my arsenal. Having trouble deciding between this and the Chase Freedom Unlimited. I think the CFU would make sense for me since I already have the chase freedom and I want to use UR point for travel at some point. But the double cash is hard to beat at the 2% mark. thoughts?

    Citi Double Cash is a great card. Only reason I don't have it is because I'm firmly in the Chase ecosystem where it makes sense to use the Chase Freedom Unlimited (paired with a CSR) which will ultimately give you 2.25% back when using transfer partners.

    • @venictos

    The CITI Double Cash card is decent but there are other 2% cash back cards out there and the best part is you don't have to deal with CITI if you get one of the others. I'd much prefer the Chase Freedom Unlimited at 1.5% plus bonus and ability to combine points with the CSR over the CITI at 2%. I have cards from Chase, AMEX, DISCOVER, CITI, Capital One, heck I even have a few from Synchrony still and I'd rate the customer service from CITI dead last over any card I've ever had. I just refuse to use my CITI card anymore so I don't have to deal with them.

      I'm just keeping my Quicksilver and using it for general purposes instead of trying to get this one because it's got my oldest credit history and Capital One is pretty prompt in giving you your cash back. It post to your account as soon as your transactions been processed and then you get it within a couple of days of requesting it. I don't want to go through the hassle applying for a card only for the half percent increase

    My only concern with this card is that you don't earn the second percent back unless the money you've spent stays on the card until it hits the statement date. I usually prefer to pay my balances off nearly entirely before the statement date in order to keep my credit usage percent extra low to help increase my credit score. I use the Quicksilver card primarily so that I can earn 1.5% cash back and still maintain low usage. Is this strategy worth while? Or is the extra half percent the better option as long as I keep my usage below 10%?
    Thanks!

    • @imcalledalauda
      @imcalledalauda 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My experience is different - when I first got this card, the limit they stuck me with was so low that I had to make several payments per month not to go over limit. I got 1% on everything I spent (minus refund credits) and 1% on everything I paid, no exceptions. Paying early is no problem. You just have to wait until the statement hits for the cashback.

      Yes. You can easily product change it to any other Citi card if your spending patterns change (i.e., Costco/Dividend/Prestige/AA). With a lot of the other 2% cards, you're stuck with it.

      You get a percentage of spend. Some you get a percentage of spend and payback amount. Think about it as free money for using your cards (instead of cash) but only if you pay off your cards in full monthly.

    I understand that the Double Cash card is one of the better rewards cards for every day but I have a question I haven't been able to clarify. For those who pay their balance off weekly instead of when the statement clears, do they still get the effective 2%? Some reviews online state that you have to wait to pay it on the due date to get the 2%.

    Shitty Citibank up and cancelled my credit card after I selected Autopay on their website. The website provided me with a selection of my existing Citibank credit cards to choose to pay my card from. The payment bounced. An agent with Citibank told me it was due to a missing zero in the Citibank checking account number they have on file. The agent fixed the error, refunded the $25 fee and said it was all good. Next time I tried to use it, it was declined. I called again and was told the account was cancelled. I spoke with a manager and he put a request through for reinstatement. Someone claiming to be named Sarah Carey called back, lied and told me it was all my fault. She lied and said that I made a mistake when entering the account number. I told her their web page does not allow me the enter any numbers, but lets me pick from the displayed accounts, only showing the last 4 digits. I asked where my cash rewards went and she said they were forfeited. I have had the card for a year and have paid the full balance every month. I told her this was a disgrace and that I am going to yank every dime out of their bank. These people act like the trash of the Earth and you would be smart to take your money elsewhere. A total disgrace.

    What do you do with your 1.5% cards once you get the Citi DC?
    I currently have a Quicksilver and a Schwab Amex giving me 1.5%; do I get the Citi and just sock drawer them? Isn't it better to have a bunch of active 1.5% creating payment activity vs a single DC card even with the .5% difference?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sock drawer them and set a reminder (calendar? note? mental?) to use it once every 3-6 months for grocery trip. As long as you're not pushing close to your credit limit, it shouldn't really be a problem. Even then, you can pre-pay your cards every few days/week to keep utilization low.

    • @avburns
      @avburns 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the response, Sebby. I'm relatively new to the "credit game" and I thought the goal was accumulating activity units on as many cards as possible (OK vs NA, No Activity).
      The idea of essentially dumping my 1.5% cards (going from monthly activity to infrequent activity) didn't seem right to me. But based on your comments I'll think of applying for the DC. Thanks.

      I'll mention this in the consultation, but you should focus on 5/24 cards first. Imagine a BBQ with steak and burgers.
      If you go for the burgers first, you'll get "locked out" of the steaks (in the BBQ situation, other people will eat it all).
      Burgers will be around all BBQ long, so you can always go back to them :)

    I'd be willing to say that the 2% paypal mastercard is a better card because you get your 2% on all transactions up front. You don't have to wait for the 1% when you pay off the balance. It does have slightly less price protection at 60 days but I don't think that's a big deal if you're someone who does your research and shops around. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether it has rental car insurance.
