Looking forward to Mariana Mazzucato advising the new government in Chile led by Gabriel Borić. Very good things should happen in Chile if they listen to her.

Speaking as a politician in the Danish parliament, the ideas that Mariana proposes could really be used here. We have stopped thinking big and acting big in politics.

What an enlightening talk. For people who live in societies where they intrinsically do not trust the government but also has no power to change the leaders (eg Hong Kong China) it would be much harder to execute these mission-visions, unless there is a way to separate the missions from politics and allow private enterprises to lead these projects and even to override the public partner, if it is merited. Unfortunately a public-private project is inherently unbalance in power, and bad people on the government side just waste everyone's time.

It’s the exact opposite. The private sector’s main goal is profit, not well-being of the people. Why would they be the “good guys” in this scenario, and why would we give them unfettered control over situations when they have repeatedly demonstrated that they are willing to let everything else go down the toilet to feed their greedy obese shareholders?

    • @lodragan
      @lodragan ปีที่แล้ว

This would only work in a democracy. The CCP and Russia for that matter, are not democracies. In both cases there is no responsibility to the governed - power to govern does not come from the people. You can't have a public/private partnership unless the public sector is a willing participant - and if that fails then what Dr. Mazzucato spoke about is irrelevant.

Wow what a fascinating talk! Really interesting points right till the last minute! Thanks. Great points about how weak states foster mafias. She advises South Africa's presidency but admits Eskom's current broken monopolistic condition, they are clearly not taking her advice then. It has become a weak state overrun by criminals.

economic model is quite relevant to the new vision introduced by Klaus Schwab almost 50 years ago, is exact from 2019 is exactly what this Harvard is citing its motivation a refreshment of the Davos Manifesto in 2020: all its stakeholders in shared and sustained value creation Value is defined in a very special way. not material, commodity, value money wealth, this abstruse notion of value or wealth that includes leisure time, relationship quality, beauty of nature and all other kind of abstract that come in under well-being economies and ecological accounting ( you own nothing but you are happy) The Corruption of Stakeholder Capitalism.

its a put up or stfu approach, its to fight money pit project that lead nowhere. IE: the development of a certain us jet fighter i wont name. Or white whale Like the Reagan; Star War ICBM defense system. US gov is notorious to line up pockets of bad actors. I don't think Mariana imply a ticking time bomb deadline of your project i assume delay would be extended on a progress basis. Mari.
I will give ypu an example of what economy actually is and how os a democratic mpdern state, if its terrible.
But I want something in return.
Google must interviene in my personal situation.
    Violence, santions, all.
    Example.
The constitution stablish the erradication of poverty.
    End of discussion.
To end poverty you must garantee bqsic and fundamental obrigatory education to all population.
Children under 14 after the Chart are forbidden to work.
Hungry is a matter of public health.
It is an instance to declare Public Calamity (emergencial solition required).
This is not a matter of government.
It is a matter of state in its structure (npt institutions).
    So.
    Ministry of Education.
    Staff.
Parcially elected by carreer staff, hired by public (i dont know in english) concurse.
    Ok.
The problem is that the concurses, like for Judges, are fraudulent.
But we were talking about Education.
Parcially appointed by thee Government, you got the idea.
It is entirelly conceptualize under DUTY.
"My work is to garantee that all children go to school, immigrants, illegal transpansexualshermaphodites, whatever, sir."
    "Carry on."
    Can we start from here.
I am painting a beautiful portrait for my future (...)

the warm life of a rent-seeker, ahhhh academia and policy making, a thing of wonder. I'm sure she's making a killing being a psychologist to governments saying them: you should do more, listen to me. Let me convalidate your role so you feel good about being reckless and let's share some good old rent-seeking without no direct negative consequence. She's smart, but she's in the wrong (or right) business.

    • @dom2555

@@botchedmandala5197 look at how many roles she has/had as advisor, because of what she preaches, she says what they want to hear, it works like horoscope pretty much. Entitling goverments to do more, as if society and economy is a washing machine that needs to be fixed constantly. Look at how governments enlarged during the time, how they control directly more and more assets and what are the results. What are negative consequences for academics? And teachers? Do they pay if their students end up working at McDonald's with a Master degree and defaulting over student loans? I don't think so (and btw you know why and because of who the problem of student loans started in first place?). They have positive asymmetry, same as policy-makers and many other categories. About self gain, I'll quote Adam Smith: It is not from the benevolence of the butcher. the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest.
Miss Mazzucato at the question: "why your WHO commission is composed by all women" once answered quote on quote with: "why the fuck not". You think that's an analytical and objective mind? A serious economist? If science (even human sciences) falls into propaganda we're all screwed. No thanks.
