The damage here being the roaming enchanter meta, and Hullbreaker becoming much stronger. They made toplane an absolute island, but forgot to fix the one item that was broken but balanced by the fact that "toplane is an island" was an extreme case. When they decided to change it to the general case, they forgot they even made Hullbreaker, resulting in a broken but situational item being a broken jack-of-all-trades item.

Pro-active changes need thorough research and a long time to determine impacts. This means we would have gigantic patches, but much fewer per year. Reactive changes are much quicker to do. Truthfully, it leads to a lot of balancing nightmares, but it leads to multiple patches throughout the year, even the month, leading to a fresher feeling to the game throughout the season and creates engagement. The middle-ground would be to simply go back to the old days, where Pre-season and the start of the Season was always accompanied by a gigantic patch, aiming to make pro-active changes through the season, creating a foundation for your balancing plan for this year. But lately it feels like they're getting smaller and smaller.

Been building it lately now. It makes sense from a logical standpoint. It gives you defensives to survive 2v1 collapses or even 3v1 if you happen to be a bruiser. If anyone starts barking about nerfs to this item, may I remind you that TOPLANE is pretty much roaming enchanters with smite atm. Keeping this item untouched WILL offer some counterplay into the bs that is enchanter top.

Agree but only because it looks cooler. HB doesn't need a nerf, despite Dobby and some others saying that "it's all the rage," it's actually only 10-20% first rushed in global challenger. It's actually in an extremely good place atm.

It’s hard to pull off since if you die you need your maiden not to get killed while you are still in revive timer and waiting for your ult to become ready again.

Honestly only problem is range champ abuse it every other bruiser just does it somewhat better. So may be range champ can only got 20 armor and magic resist while only deal 10% extra dmg on turret plus only give cannon 60 armor and magic Resistance is probably a good change to item.
i think there was an akshan in that game, so basicaly yorick left the maiden on lane, he died but akshan revived him maiden startet loosing hp but akshan revived him. now he can re-use his ult for a seccond maiden
it's really weird how these things just happen suddenly, Trundle and Yorick were probably the pioneers of Hullbreaker and they've always have been busted with it for split push
Dobby explainef some reasons, but mine is : it's the only last item now who still grant some hp, resistance and AD, all for cheap cost. Riot nerfed bruiser hp and put ad + ad ratio to all other bruiser item without touching hull breaker.
A nerf for range champ who abuse it is probably will fix the problem like since they are range and dealing dmg to turret from far away at safe distance they should reduce the extra dmg range champ got to 10% and being stats check as range when they can kite and poke is toxic so maybe the passive only give them 20 ar, mr for the whole game and since they protect cannon better only give cannon 60 ar, mr on range champ.

Urgot don't have any good 1v1 mythique cuz, gnar neither. Trinity sett or sion seems bad... Graves I don't know, it's just op. Also they have huge early pressure and hard push (I mean sett is melee but rush hullbreaker seems crazy pressure on him too) , so rushing hullbreaker, and then u easily destroy every plates and create advantage even without kills.
I used hullbreaker after it got some buffs/adjustments earlier on and knew it was gonna be a problematic item in the future. The stats you get if you’re alone is cracked.
My desperation item I started to rush lately, because no matter where I am (top or jungle), I'm always made to fight battles alone, since my jetstream teammates despite my numerous pings can come only to my dead body, and in late game team fights can just suck.
Its always been somewhat viable. Its just before steraks and stuff just gave too much stats for fighting. Now the next best stat item is a splitpush item.
Another fun item that will eventually get nerfed or even be removed (just like banner of command and zzrot) due to proplay scene. This item is really good against AP top champs not just against Akali.

Hulk Breaker on manaless tank champs is broken idk why people never exploited it, Garen, Sett and mundo are really good also champs with empowered auto attacks to destroy turrets faster aka Nasus.
You didn't abuse it because in S11 you actually had an opposing laner, who you have to stomp before rushing HB. Nowadays you just see a Janna, you know that your lane will be free anyways and that the enemy team will get objective shutdowns because of you, might aswell get the most out of it.
Please dont nerf this, this item is the only way for juggernauts to impact games nowadays. Everyone else already has a bunch of dashes and dumb damage, just let the juggernauts be tanky :(

I knew this. Hull breaker isn't balanced around ranged champions, so getting this and one other thing like death's dance, GA, or Wits ends gives can make you survive a 3v1 gank even as an ADC. Also, Hull breaker works best on any champion who can Inflict their passive or ability on towers, even magic champions as your 20% increased damage to towers means everything, and as AP scales harder than AD early on so Gwen with her E and passive can buy this second, neeko can buy this second or third due to her W, Zoe maybe 3rd or 4th due to her passive, Tristana 2nd due to her E, and many more. As gwen, without this item she can already with just a blasting wand, 2 stacks of dark seal, and a dagger, take the outer tower in under 2 minutes even through platings. As gwen auto attacks a lot, getting ad on her might not even be so bad.
Considering running hullbreaker rush on rek'sai top since she never wants to teamfight anyway, just snowball lane and win every 1v1. would make running prowler's feel less squishy too

@@dastofftierarmy5176 the minion buff effect was stronger but you couldnt use it on every single cannon wave, due to the cooldown. If they managed to take down that one buffed creep there would be a significant drop in the split push effectiveness till it's back up. And banner of command's stats itself to the player was much weaker. Not to mention hullbreaker works on every single super minion wave too while banner of command couldn't be used on super minions.
@@dastofftierarmy5176 using it when your team is around you defeats the whole purpose of the two items, which is to split push and divide your opponent's forces. With multiple people hitting it it really wasn't that tanky. Supports often took minion dematerializer regardless of banner of command because it was good for fast pushing and roaming. It was only really good if you had like 5 banner of commands on your team, but even then it wasn't an unbeatable strategy, the problem was only in the fact that it would devolve into an ARAM game which was unhealthy for the game.
Im glad after so much time people start talking about how an item is enough to make a champion unkillable in a 1v2 and 1v3 and splitpushers like sion and tryndamere are becoming unbearable in the currwnt meta.

I played an awful game as Sett last night where I fed super hard, and their Gwen was a huge threat, but I took inhib while everyone was at dragon. I went a really heavy HP build with HB, Frostfire Gauntlet, Titanic Hydra, and Force of Nature (heavy AP team) and I ended up carrying the game with a ton of damage from W, even though I was so far behind the Gwen in fairness, I managed to out cs Gwen that game despite dying like 12 times, and I got a ton of shut downs on enemy champs, and it was still a pretty close game

I play Darius with trinity/hullbreaker.. for me those 2 items are the best for a top laner.. almost every time i deal 10-18k dmg to towers! The only sad part is that my team never push the other lanes or taking the objectives when i split.. i make 2-3 enemies come for me and for some reason my teammates are on mid sharing xp, gold and then go b. But yeah hullbreaker is really really good!
I feel that pain. Had a game where I brought up 3 enemies up to me 5x on inner top tower, and my team was literally just in jg dancing around, then recalling, even though bot wave was also on their inner, and just never shoved it. The one time they did shove, somehow died to 2 people in a 2v4 lol.

I mean I understand both sides of this, your team doing jackshit while you splitpush but also the confusion and pain in seeing your teammate go solo in a lane and fight half the enemy team when everyone else on your team are behind on gold and need to farm up for items since they cant contest the drake/baron or push a tower otherwise because the enemy team will just show up and fuck em over with their 2 item lead

This really is a symptom of too much mobility and damage in the game. It use to be that a player could setup a wave, get some camps and split push to pull pressure. Now champs have so much mobility waves just move too slow before the enemy rotates. Also, why would the enemy need to worry about tactics when simply rotating and assassinate the pusher nets them almost zero negative consequences. Haulbreaker is just Banner for AD champs, and like any style of playing the game outside of meta it will be nerfed and removed.
Well from the moment the item was on live server i expected everyone to rush it idk why top players need so much time to realize how good that item actually is .
because while it was good toplane wasnt as isolated, aka tp made it so that you could actually help your team and helping your team was the better choice in the end. now that tp is fucked and the enemy toplane doesnt exist because he decided to roam around as janna instead this item makes it so you can be useful to your team even with the tp changes preventing you from easily roaming and such.

Just like it took koreans forever to start building Archangel+Muramana combo, yet I was doing it on Ezreal, Ryze, Syndra (each R ball procced Muramana) before they changed Muramana from toggle to passive effect lol.
I had a game were our top was Urgot and he was running this. Our support was a Yumi and mid game decided to stay on him for the rest of the game. Really mad Urgot.

To the people comparing Hullbreaker to Banner of Command in regards to the cannon minion buff: Increased armor/magic resist is not the same as MAGIC DAMAGE IMMUNITY. I agree that Hullbreaker's stats are overtuned atm, but in terms of design, it's much more balanced than Banner of Command. It doesn't need to be removed from the game.
It need to nerf stats for range champ though hitting turret from far away and stats check as a range isn’t as easy to deal with as melee. They can make it work like any other bruiser item that reduce the effect given to range champ.

Who would have thought an item adjacent to Banner of Command would have resulted in such a lane state. I complained about the item initially on release but, quickly stopped when A) most people weren't building it and B) it wasn't really suitable for the meta environment at the time. But after about a year. the conditions for the item to thrive has arrived. I only hope Riot just doesn't try the item concept a 3rd time.
I'd say it was bigger before that. The lethal tempo change made some top laners who didn't fully shine back into the scene, IE trundle. He was average, S tier vs some match ups, but Lethal tempo really boosted him in top lane. He can win almost every 1v1 at level 1.
Finally my beloved hullbreaker gets the recognition it deserves. I might have skipped some buff tho, cause everyone was calling it trash on release. Also being jungle/top but currently just doing on or two Aram games makes me lose track.
I wouldnt say that the team who controls sidelanes has priority on the whole game thats just a massive cap... Sidelaning helps but if the enemy bot is fed af there is nothing you can do... Your team mates just gets runned down and killed. Enemies can just end. Sidelaning is good if the game is even.
@@scrapzz2696 That's too late. 3rd is ok on Camille/Fiora/Trynda/Jax. With Aphelios you don't have enough pressure at two items with no hullbreaker and still are a big and easy gank target. You become a problem and much harder to gank with hullbreaker therefore it's much better 2nd or even 1st item on him very similarly to Graves.

i think there was an akshan in that game, so basicaly yorick left the maiden on lane, he died but akshan revived him maiden startet loosing hp but akshan revived him. now he can re-use his ult for a seccond maiden

it's really weird how these things just happen suddenly, Trundle and Yorick were probably the pioneers of Hullbreaker and they've always have been busted with it for split push
Dobby explainef some reasons, but mine is : it's the only last item now who still grant some hp, resistance and AD, all for cheap cost. Riot nerfed bruiser hp and put ad + ad ratio to all other bruiser item without touching hull breaker.
From what i see in this video it only op for range champ like grave, gnar, urgot everyone else is doing what they supposed to do.
A nerf for range champ who abuse it is probably will fix the problem like since they are range and dealing dmg to turret from far away at safe distance they should reduce the extra dmg range champ got to 10% and being stats check as range when they can kite and poke is toxic so maybe the passive only give them 20 ar, mr for the whole game and since they protect cannon better only give cannon 60 ar, mr on range champ.
@@AgentYellowWang No it's because melee bruiser have great bruiser melee mythics, like melee trinity (jax split takes hull breaker second, camille too, ect) . Urgot don't have any good 1v1 mythique cuz, gnar neither. Trinity sett or sion seems bad... Graves I don't know, it's just op. Also they have huge early pressure and hard push (I mean sett is melee but rush hullbreaker seems crazy pressure on him too) , so rushing hullbreaker, and then u easily destroy every plates and create advantage even without kills.
To me they will just nerf hullbreaker a bit (and fkin nerf Graves top come on)
It's also (as you said) a result of enchanters smite perma roaming top, fed toplaners take hullbreaker first and just zoom through the top towers...

I used hullbreaker after it got some buffs/adjustments earlier on and knew it was gonna be a problematic item in the future. The stats you get if you’re alone is cracked.
Idk the whole point of the item is having highest stats when going solo. This might bring split push viable on higher elo.

I've been rushing hullbreaker in toplane for a while now, glad to know I wasn't trolling and it is actually a viable strategy
My desperation item I started to rush lately, because no matter where I am (top or jungle), I'm always made to fight battles alone, since my jetstream teammates despite my numerous pings can come only to my dead body, and in late game team fights can just suck.
Its always been somewhat viable. Its just before steraks and stuff just gave too much stats for fighting. Now the next best stat item is a splitpush item.
I swear I feel so special now, I literally build it every game since it came out.
Kinda sad cus hullbreaker is my secret build and now its a meta cus canyon recommend it to his top laner XD

Hulk Breaker on manaless tank champs is broken idk why people never exploited it, Garen, Sett and mundo are really good also champs with empowered auto attacks to destroy turrets faster aka Nasus.

You didn't abuse it because in S11 you actually had an opposing laner, who you have to stomp before rushing HB. Nowadays you just see a Janna, you know that your lane will be free anyways and that the enemy team will get objective shutdowns because of you, might aswell get the most out of it.

I knew this. Hull breaker isn't balanced around ranged champions, so getting this and one other thing like death's dance, GA, or Wits ends gives can make you survive a 3v1 gank even as an ADC. Also, Hull breaker works best on any champion who can Inflict their passive or ability on towers, even magic champions as your 20% increased damage to towers means everything, and as AP scales harder than AD early on so Gwen with her E and passive can buy this second, neeko can buy this second or third due to her W, Zoe maybe 3rd or 4th due to her passive, Tristana 2nd due to her E, and many more. As gwen, without this item she can already with just a blasting wand, 2 stacks of dark seal, and a dagger, take the outer tower in under 2 minutes even through platings. As gwen auto attacks a lot, getting ad on her might not even be so bad.
Agree this should be treated like every other bruiser item nerf the effectiveness of the item on all range champ.
Considering running hullbreaker rush on rek'sai top since she never wants to teamfight anyway, just snowball lane and win every 1v1. would make running prowler's feel less squishy too

If they managed to take down that one buffed creep there would be a significant drop in the split push effectiveness till it's back up. And banner of command's stats itself to the player was much weaker. Not to mention hullbreaker works on every single super minion wave too while banner of command couldn't be used on super minions.

@@dastofftierarmy5176 using it when your team is around you defeats the whole purpose of the two items, which is to split push and divide your opponent's forces. With multiple people hitting it it really wasn't that tanky. Supports often took minion dematerializer regardless of banner of command because it was good for fast pushing and roaming. It was only really good if you had like 5 banner of commands on your team, but even then it wasn't an unbeatable strategy, the problem was only in the fact that it would devolve into an ARAM game which was unhealthy for the game.
Im glad after so much time people start talking about how an item is enough to make a champion unkillable in a 1v2 and 1v3 and splitpushers like sion and tryndamere are becoming unbearable in the currwnt meta.

banner of command, zzrot,sanguine blade etc. they've tried the solo lane/split push items quite a few times mate, and they've all fucked up the meta hard and promoted an even more egocentric playstyle for a game that is supposed to be a team game

I played an awful game as Sett last night where I fed super hard, and their Gwen was a huge threat, but I took inhib while everyone was at dragon. I went a really heavy HP build with HB, Frostfire Gauntlet, Titanic Hydra, and Force of Nature (heavy AP team) and I ended up carrying the game with a ton of damage from W, even though I was so far behind the Gwen
in fairness, I managed to out cs Gwen that game despite dying like 12 times, and I got a ton of shut downs on enemy champs, and it was still a pretty close game

I play Darius with trinity/hullbreaker.. for me those 2 items are the best for a top laner.. almost every time i deal 10-18k dmg to towers!
The only sad part is that my team never push the other lanes or taking the objectives when i split.. i make 2-3 enemies come for me and for some reason my teammates are on mid sharing xp, gold and then go b.
But yeah hullbreaker is really really good!
I feel that pain. Had a game where I brought up 3 enemies up to me 5x on inner top tower, and my team was literally just in jg dancing around, then recalling, even though bot wave was also on their inner, and just never shoved it. The one time they did shove, somehow died to 2 people in a 2v4 lol.

I mean I understand both sides of this, your team doing jackshit while you splitpush but also the confusion and pain in seeing your teammate go solo in a lane and fight half the enemy team when everyone else on your team are behind on gold and need to farm up for items since they cant contest the drake/baron or push a tower otherwise because the enemy team will just show up and fuck em over with their 2 item lead
but i think we can all agree that the most frustrating thing is neither of those 2 things but rather that for some reason everytime you go somewhere to farm your entire team decides to show up to clear out whatever you're farming.... start a jng camp? shame your adc/midlane decided to show up and take last hit after you've spefically went out of your way to pick a spot noone else is at. a bit of farm midlane? oh hold up your toplane decided now's the time to stop standing in a bush lookin dumb and go back to farm "thx for bringing this CS to last hit for me"
@@goranpersson7726 that's the reason of split pushing.. either destroy the towers or hold the enemies as much as you can.. even if the team is behind on gold, 4v2 or 4v1 should be winnable for them, right? If they cant beat 2 enemies then just ff it and go next! I would also be ok if they split pushed too.. like when i split bot, 3-4 enemies appear in bot lane, in top lane there's nobody.. like never.. nobody goes top.. its like the lane is non existent and they decide to group mid and share all the gold and exp!
Also If a laner takes your camps just go and smite their cannon 🤣

This really is a symptom of too much mobility and damage in the game. It use to be that a player could setup a wave, get some camps and split push to pull pressure. Now champs have so much mobility waves just move too slow before the enemy rotates. Also, why would the enemy need to worry about tactics when simply rotating and assassinate the pusher nets them almost zero negative consequences. Haulbreaker is just Banner for AD champs, and like any style of playing the game outside of meta it will be nerfed and removed.
Dude if it gets removed I'll be pissed. It can get nerfed but I wanna simply for cool factor plus its use for solo lane and solo q.
Well from the moment the item was on live server i expected everyone to rush it idk why top players need so much time to realize how good that item actually is .
because while it was good toplane wasnt as isolated, aka tp made it so that you could actually help your team and helping your team was the better choice in the end. now that tp is fucked and the enemy toplane doesnt exist because he decided to roam around as janna instead this item makes it so you can be useful to your team even with the tp changes preventing you from easily roaming and such.
Why everyone takes so long to notice these things... Especially RIOT. The only thing you had to do is to read the description on PBE, to know a little bit of MATH to realize it's beyond busted. Just like it took koreans forever to start building Archangel+Muramana combo, yet I was doing it on Ezreal, Ryze, Syndra (each R ball procced Muramana) before they changed Muramana from toggle to passive effect lol.

To the people comparing Hullbreaker to Banner of Command in regards to the cannon minion buff: Increased armor/magic resist is not the same as MAGIC DAMAGE IMMUNITY. I agree that Hullbreaker's stats are overtuned atm, but in terms of design, it's much more balanced than Banner of Command. It doesn't need to be removed from the game.
It need to nerf stats for range champ though hitting turret from far away and stats check as a range isn’t as easy to deal with as melee. They can make it work like any other bruiser item that reduce the effect given to range champ.
I always forget this item exist so I never build it with gnar because of it, now I will try it

Who would have thought an item adjacent to Banner of Command would have resulted in such a lane state. I complained about the item initially on release but, quickly stopped when A) most people weren't building it and B) it wasn't really suitable for the meta environment at the time. But after about a year. the conditions for the item to thrive has arrived. I only hope Riot just doesn't try the item concept a 3rd time.
I think the TP nerfs a few patches ago gave this item an even bigger boost as well. I hardly see top laners take TP over Ignite now.
I'd say it was bigger before that. The lethal tempo change made some top laners who didn't fully shine back into the scene, IE trundle.
He was average, S tier vs some match ups, but Lethal tempo really boosted him in top lane. He can win almost every 1v1 at level 1.
Finally my beloved hullbreaker gets the recognition it deserves. I might have skipped some buff tho, cause everyone was calling it trash on release. Also being jungle/top but currently just doing on or two Aram games makes me lose track.

I wouldnt say that the team who controls sidelanes has priority on the whole game thats just a massive cap... Sidelaning helps but if the enemy bot is fed af there is nothing you can do... Your team mates just gets runned down and killed. Enemies can just end. Sidelaning is good if the game is even.
So how should they nerf it? Less hp? Less ad? Bigger range on no allies? Less tower damage? More pricey to buy?

@@scrapzz2696 That's too late. 3rd is ok on Camille/Fiora/Trynda/Jax. With Aphelios you don't have enough pressure at two items with no hullbreaker and still are a big and easy gank target. You become a problem and much harder to gank with hullbreaker therefore it's much better 2nd or even 1st item on him very similarly to Graves.

What about camille? Is it worth it on her I personally think camille has too many core items needed not just the mythic. She needs mythic and hydra so I guess its a good 3rd item but by that time many towers are already down at least in low elo games.
I think divine rush is better simply because of the sheen true dmg convert
You can probably get away with building divine and a tiamat and then hullbreaker, but don't know if it's better than just rushing hydra
