      The Transmitter Pro is the same as the Transmitter Skyport Plus HS. But since firmware 2.1, the "Skyport Plus HS" is named "Transmitter Pro".

      HI MILAN,
      Unfortunately, the FRX is not optimized for Hi-Sync.
      You can still go above your X-Sync but it might produce unexpected results depending on flash units, power levels and camera sensor size.

      Hi Abhishek, what heads are you using? With HS technics, gradient is inevitable but depending the type of heads or units you use you can reduce that effect. For more information about this, please refer to this page: www.elinchrom.com/learn/hss-hs.html

    On a budget, wondering if you could use an RX-4 powered by something like a Paul C. Buff Mini Vagabond to produce the same results as the ELB400 kit. I understand it's a bit bulkier but I wouldn't have to purchase the extra piece to mount large modifiers as I would with the Quadra heads. If so, I'll order a RX-4 kit with the HS trigger! :D

      You need Elinchrom compatible units (with long flash duration):
      www.elinchrom.com/support/ELSP-HS.html
      Other option would be to attach the Skyport Plus Receiver and you could achieve Hi-Sync, but again you need long flash duration units/heads.

      So I just decided that I might go ahead and buy a pair of the ELC Pro HD 500 Ws heads. I'm just a little confused whether or not having HS is better for sports photography such as motocross or is the older technology of short flash duration better (1/16,000 or so)?

      I don't have experience with this. With HS you can choose 1/8000s on your camera, but the shutter will still need 1/250s to pass over the sensor. During this time your object move and you have kind of rolling shutter effect. With short flash you have >>>bam

      Here are some steps to follow to sort this out:
      - Do not use silent mode, this may deactivate some flash features.
      - Activate in the flash mode setting of the camera fill-in flash or slow Sync.
      - SC Setup by the camera is normal because some Sony cameras can be controlled by the Transmitter.
      - HS mode is automatically activated with the Transmitter Pro version since firmware V.2.10.
      - Hi-Sync and other functions will work only when you use original Sony lenses.
      Workaround: use Sony with the original lens with the Transmitter switched ON and then change to a third-party lens without switching of the devices.

    I'm new to Elichrom and just bought a ELB 400 with HS Head and ELS Transmitter Plus HS for Canon.
    Now I thought of buying a second light: the D lite RX4, which is said to be compatible with the HS-system.
    But I found out that the A a B port from the ELB400 have different optimal ODS settings. So now I am wondering how compatible the system really is. Using two ELB's in the same set, but with different output-levels (using different ports) can make it complicated to find the optimal ODS setting....... hmm. And how works the ELB together with the RX4 in terms of ODS? I really like to know that first before investing in more light-units!

      han furnee this worries me too. i have a mix of d-lites at different powers, from 100-400 watt.
      is this system going to allow me to use all of my lights together?

    • @elinchromLTD
      @elinchromLTD  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Han, if you wish to use Hi-Sync with your ELB 400 you should only use the A output. You may use it together with your D-Lite 4 but at a certain point, probably at 1/8000 the results will not be the best due to the different flash duration of HS heads and D-Lite 4 heads.
      Jenny, if you need to use Hi-Sync, it will only be compatible with D-Lite 4 units, not the One or 2.

      Hi-Sync or HSS mode for Sony cameras will be detected automatically. Once the shutter speed is above the normal x-sync of your camera, Hi-Sync or HSS mode will switch on automatically.
      Important, do not use silent mode, this may deactivate some flash features.

    • @toddstrong1353
      @toddstrong1353 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, this is somewhat misleading. When the Xplor/ Godox 600 is in HSS mode, the power is much much less than the 600w/s. This is because the flash is firing in a strobe like manner so fast you can't tell. To fire that fast it has to be able to recharge fast enough for the next flash and keep flashing until the shutter covers the focal plane. To do this, the flash can NOT fire at full 600w/s. This is why you see BTS shots with those lights where the settings are 1/2 power, 3/4 power, or full power and the light is still fairly close to the subject. Or why you see such a tight crop on the subject, so you won't see the lighting. With the Hi-Sync system, it's just one long flash at the brightest part of the flash curve that lights your subject. The flash duration is longer than the shutter speed which allows the light to cover the entire focal plane. Since the strobe is only emitting one flash burst instead of multiple bursts as in HSS, you can effectively have more power and have the light a bit further from the subject so as not to clutter your composition which would need to be removed in post. Make sense or did I just confuse the issue?

    • @TheRowi62

      In my opinion, Studio Flash (which the Elinchrom flashes are) and TTL are not useful together. TTL is when you have to react fast and have different lighting situations or distances where the flash has to be adjusted fast and often. But you loose the exact control over the light and because of the pre flash, you get a time delay between pressing the shutter and the exposure.
      With manual flash and a light meter you can do much more with your light without needing TTL.
      I'd like to have a light meter which would be able to measure HSS. The new Sekonic can only measure the high speed sync....

    joe, you also forgot one important advantage of higher shutter speeds, the abillity to hand_hold the camera, as far as motion blur, the faster the shutter, the less vibration gets to the shot. This also makes the shoot easier, NOT having to tripod mount the camera the whole time.

    what is mot ?

  • @ZachGrayPhotography
    @ZachGrayPhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is silly. If the HS mode captures SOME of the power, then each flash set to different outputs would all not be able to be measured with a light meter as each one is putting out a different amount of power based on the actually power output AND the sliver of light it’s capturing. How can you consistently measure that or practically use that in the studio? Using ND filters would be way easier and more effective. Plus, the system does make a gradation of the light, so you then have to fix that in post.

      Hi-Sync was developed only recently, our flash units where out long before.

    • @TheRowi62
      @TheRowi62 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before HS the flash heads had to be fast, the faster the better. And the Elinchroms (except the Dlite 2 and 4) are fast, very fast, even the small D-Lite Ones. But with HS you need slow flashes which have a long and even burn time. It has to be as long as the shutter needs to do his work (the duration is about the X-Sync-Time, so about 1/250s). During this time the flash has to emit light, as even as possible (or you have a light falloff, which has to be corrected in post production). And so only the ugly slow D-Lite 4 (1/800 t0.5, with makes about 1/250 t0.1) is the only flash head to do HS. Furthermore Elinchrom developed the HS-Heads, because it's outside where you need HS to overpower the sun.
      (If this stay among us: You can use the skyport HS with a skyport receiver and a cheap'n'slow chinese flash unit to do HS.)
