    If both knees are replaced you’re in bad shape...😢

      Unfortunately, there is no perfect solution... but if worse case scenario you find yourself in a bad situation you can make one of these strategies work.

      You are so correct. I have had both knees and 1 hip replaced. It is most difficult to get up

    Good start points you’ve mentioned. The pivoting action will work, but not every episode, every day.
    It’s well that you say…it’s only going to hurt for a minute.
    Purpose is to recover, don’t stop. It’ll hurt, but measurable in seconds. Fear hurts longer.
    Program to say…yes, the surgical knee will hurt, but it’s just a few seconds as I transfer.
    No total joint replacement allowed unless…instructions to make a plan. Go home, make a plan.
    Bolt a piece of furniture to the wall or floor that is assistive in getting up. Develop a plan.
    Each episode is different, but each is a learning experience. You gave good information to say….don’t panic.
    You're already on the floor, nothing lower. Think, don’t panic.
    The drawing of legs is usually not doable. Age, weight, and flexibility all factors that may have contributed to the fall.
    Better is…sit on something. Raise another level, sit again, add a layer, sit again. Pull down a couch cushion. Sit on it.
    That raises you up six inches.
    The couch frame is solid. Add a hand grip, it’ll be more solid still.
    People shut down to say they can’t. You can. You do it.
    If you can turn over in bed, you’re doing what’s necessary.
    Modify from there.
    I took screenshots to freeze your motions. Now I have flash cards to remind and train myself.
    Well done, thanks.

    It is excruciating to go onto my knees at all. When I fall, if I try to even get on all fours, I will go off my knees within less than a second. I cannot bear any weight on kneeling position at all. I don't know what to do. I have almost no strength in my lower leg muscles, but am able to walk short distances. If I fall, it is nearly impossible to get up.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, even with these different techniques it can be very difficulty to get up from the floor. First I would make sure your home is setup maximally to reduce risk of having a fall, a physical therapist can be a good help with this. I would also recommend a press alert pendent you can wear at all times and can press if you do fall and assistance can be sent for you.

    I had both knees replaced and can't put weight on them and I don't have strength in my arms to pull me up.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that.. if you are worried about potentially falling, I would consider wearing a medical alert button either a pendent or bracelet, or constantly having your cellphone on your body, especially if you live alone or spend a lot of time home alone...also, continue to exercise both your legs and upper body and hopefully with time you may see improvements in your ability to perform these movements.

    The closest you came to my method was the bear crawl position. I basically get myself into a downward facing dog and walk my hands back toward my feet until I can stand. Not elegant, but it works.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, this is definitely one of the strategies you can use. Doesn't have to be pretty, as long as it gets the job done!

    I had both knees replaced one at a time over the last 8 months. Well, a week ago I fell and tried all these things (w/o benefit of watching videos, just came up with them on the fly) not including the kneeling ones which were out of the question. After 2 hours trying anything I could think of, I had to call the fire department and they had an inflatable device that brought me up to chair height sitting and I could get up. I was hoping there was some other method that did not require bendy knees and kneeling.

      Thank you for watching and sharing your experience. Unfortunately if you don't have assistance or something to pull up on then the variety of different options and techniques is limited. I'm glad you were able to at least call for assistance.

    Or could i hold my best friend hand him or her to help me get up off the floor?

      Absolutely and I would encourage it… in this video I tried to present the worst case scenario where you have no help and nothing close by to pull up with either.

    Need to mention how it hurts to kneel on the replacement area. Have ended on the floor and couldn't bare to kneel. Have very little strength to pull myself up. So have to kneel on the knees.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately it can be very painful and intolerable to kneel on the knee. I tried to add some options without kneeling. Unfortunately essentially all options require some level of strength and mobility in the arms and legs if you don’t have someone to help.

    Obviously you have never had a tkr. It's easy to get off the floor when you have great flex of motion as you obviously do. Depending on where you are in your rehab can be a different story. If you demonstrated getting off the floor with a pretty straight operation leg it would be very different than where you are at. It can also be very different depending on the strength you have in your good leg. Maybe the way to demonstrate would be to secure one of your legs almost straight and try getting off the floor thus more accurately demonstrate what reality is for some people. As you mentioned if you have props close by is helpful but not always the case. I fell down in a field, luckily my tractor was not far away so I could crawl on two hands and one knee then pull myself up. Thanks for the video. • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. There is a lot of variability in terms of range of motion, pain and symptoms, and strength individuals have after surgery, including fluctuations for the same person over the course of their rehab. I presented a variety of strategies to hopefully offer one that will work for each viewer. I definitely don't claim any of these are easy, but it is good to have some strategy if worse case you find yourself in these circumstances. Thanks for watching!

      Sorry to hear about your shoulder issues. Unfortunately for some people to find a "simple" solution for getting up from the floor can be difficult, but hopefully with some creativity you can determine a strategy that can work for you when in a pinch.

    What do you do when you can’t put any weight on your knees I

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully, you'll never have to use any of these techniques, but if you do there are some techniques where you go from your side and onto your hands and knees like a "bear crawl" technique and bypass going onto your knee. Although this does take a lot of upper body strength.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are some options where you can avoid kneeling on the knee but these also require significant arm strength. Hopefully you never have to use these strategies but in a time of desperation you may just need to briefly kneeling on the knee to push yourself up

  • @crazyeightsable

      Yup this is another option. Good if you have significant pain with kneeling on your knee, even if briefly, but definitely requires a lot of upper body and core strength. Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks for the idea!!!! I have had both knees replaced but I wont try getting up without my knee pads. Being a larger woman I am very causious about getting on my knees. But you gave the the PERFECT idea. I watched the video to the part where you were boosting yourself onto a "stair". BINGO! I could use the stairs going to the basement to get up! Perfectly EFFORTLESS! Thanks so much!

    What if you from a flatback position?

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to move from on your back either to sitting upright with legs in front of you or work your way up onto your knees. You can do this by walking your hands / arms up as you flex forward at the torso or you can roll onto your side and push yourself up from the side with your arms. Hope this helps!
