It's been a while... almost 5 years to be precise. Hey gang. Hope all has been well with all of you these past couple of years. I will be uploading a video this week detailing where I've been, what I'm up to presently, and what is coming my way down the line.
You may be surprised to see me uploading here. So am I! lol. I've had mixed feelings about uploading to YT again, but I hit this yesterday and felt it was worthy of an upload. This time is over 1 second faster than my hands video on this course back in 2010. My play style has remained the same for the most part with a few tweaks. Hopefully you can learn from how I play here.
I have been streaming on Twitch for the better part of 2 months now. It all started as a goal to make a WW Top 10 time in 2017 (because, you know, haven't played for the better part of 4-5 years). But then it turned to more than that. I improved from 2:31.721 to 2:31.397 in 1 day (spoiler, this video isn't a PB even though it shows it is on this save file). My ultimate goal here is a 2:30 with Funky. Whether I'll hit that or not is a mystery. I'm trying.
As for this run itself, it clearly exemplifies my potential here. My best laps since playing again last month has been 50.389 - 50.315 - 50.353. MANY failed mid to low 50.2 lap 2s/lap 3s. I normally facecam on stream but I wanted to do a hand cam stream yesterday, arguably my best session yet here and I'm happy there was a hand cam to capture it all. My current potential is 50.32x-35x lap 1, 50.19x lap 2 and 50.19x lap 3. Realistically shooting for a 50.4/50.2/50.2 to nail this sub. I will continue trying.

I've forgotten how engaging this game really was, now with MK8 deluxe, it's just turn and boost in a straight line, and there aren't even any fun super shortcuts either. 😭
An unfortunate reality really. I think MKW is one of the last kart games that demanded a lot in terms of competitive play.
I personally view MK7/MK8/MK8D as perfect casual games with friends (if I had a 3DS/Wii U/Switch I'd pick those up instantly). But in terms of replay value, especially in a competitive aspect, they are far from MKW and many of the kart games beforehand (my opinion of course).

Your opinion is actually quite popular. I have heard more and more from other players who don't use GC wondering how we even use the controller. I will admit it isn't hard using it, but what IS hard is being very efficient with the GC in terms of optimizing your speed, consistency, and techniques (certain techniques on some tracks are virtually impossible humanly with GC). Wii remote is the fastest controller combination to use for humans, so I'd say stick with that.

Do you think BC64 is in fact a Funky track or a Daisy track?
This will go for rMR as well; overall Funky might be faster except for one shortcut that changes EVERYTHING.
For both humans and TAS, Daisy is the fastest here (though the margin is not huge). For me personally, I always preferred Funky here as Daisy feels completely unnatural on this course. Daisy primarily gains on every miniturbo (better MT stat), the shroom (biggest time save), and the triple MT on the spiral. Honorable mention to the last turn; I think Daisy saves there purely from being able to take it so tight, but the time save isn't as obvious compared to the others I stated.
Funky can keep up primarily due to his speed on the many straights in the run, but clearly is lacking due to human limitations anyway. If I had the ability to grind this out for a good 2 months, I wouldn't rule out a 2:30.8xx at least with Funky. However, beyond that (humanly) is asking for a bit too much without a strat change.
The difference between the two for TAS purposes is smaller than human, due to replicating Daisy's shroom strat and MT strat efficiently. I have already tried to replicate the TAS Funky shroom strat with no real success unfortunately. Funny you mention that too - I think N64 MR is N64 BC 2.0 from what has transpired there recently.
Mkay, I was curious because world records have Funky on rMR and such when Daisy is faster. Thanks for actually responding to a question I sincerely thought you weren't going to answer due to me being a little late.

No worries my friend, been checking back here every few days when I had the chance :) and thank you sir I appreciate it. The most I did on N64 MR was in parts of 2011/early 2012 with single pipes (I still have the best time doing that I think). It'd be fun to go back there eventually and get the 1:41 with single pipes (in case of a follow up - no, I wouldn't be using Daisy).
I had yet another question, and this one is a bit personal rather than a question that could apply to all. Could you please help me make a chart as to what times are good on certain courses? Instead of asking my dipshit friends who can't sub 2 minutes on MG what good times are, I was hoping you could help me. (Good times for me are essentially decent in others'.) It's fine if you don't want to, but I'm on your Discord server in case. Could be an interesting idea?
And I'm also very, very amazed when one of the kings of MKWii actually responds to most comments.
Could you save time by tricking onto the rail on the last ramp for the sc, or am I missing something obvious here? Great time.

Not quite. My PB is 2:31.397 (2nd worldwide at the time of replying to you). Current WR as of today is a 2:30.991. Though my time is the fastest driven time with Funky here which is pretty neat.

The name and mii that's attached to the ghost during the race blocks my field of view for most parts of all tracks, which is by far too distracting... I'd much prefer to race with ghosts if the name and mii didn't show.
