    OK, 4 years ago but nothing much has changed. I quit building the 1835s for people for street use and went to the 1776. They last a lot longer. The 40mms were a very popular carb. At the time Orange County had a VW shop on every corner. Times have changed a lot!

      Everything you mentioned is not new to someone who has ben around Volkswagen for a long time and difference in the motors capabilities, which is normal for 1835 vs 1776 its ben like that as long as I can remember since early 80s as well as 2180 witch were very common set up back n day nowadays the new vw generation wants 2liter motors because all they know they want more power witch most of them don't know anything about motors that's why there is people like you as mentioned here that you build them 17.s vs 18 any motor if you build correctly and use proper oil fan coolers will function without issues its ben like this for over 40+ years.

    What is the whistling noise as you accelerate? Engine fan? Induction noise?

    • @osc8
      @osc8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is the engine fan that is making the whistle. These are loud clunky machines by nature and i do not have any of even the original soundproofing.

    Are people typically happy after going to a 1776 from a stock motor? From what I see the power difference isn’t much different than stock.

    • @st-qd8wg
      @st-qd8wg ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you have to do with the stock motor to get this kinda performance out of it.

  • @st-qd8wg
    @st-qd8wg ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of these 17.S motors, the engine sound, are way more enjoyable than carburetors from looking through windshield its not that quick of motor because a few that I have experienced rip ground in 1st gear 2nd with amazing power if built right if you go with wrong components makes big difference on output 40 carb is not necessary for this engine if the builder time it right balancing crank vales, cam it will have more power most of drag racing is won with 1776 this guy must not be pushing throudle 1 race I went on test track he spin tires allway down whole half strip that is half block long in first gear I'm probably making this guy think right about now here in VId 🤣🤭😏

    What jets are you running for this?

    • @osc8
      @osc8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Evans i havent jetted or tuned it properly yet, still have transition issues. I will need to take it to a rolling road later on. I think i now have 52 idle, 180 air, 110 main, F11 tubes

    • @jamesevans417
      @jamesevans417 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Doe did you take to the rolling road? Still having transition issues? At what RPM?

    • @osc8
      @osc8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have not had the chance to take it there, but I just settled to 50 idle, 180 air, 115 mains, with 12 degrees timing (009 curve). It is running very good now with no transition issues and pulls with really low rpm even on 4th gear. i might still try with 14 degrees advance and 45 idles at some point, just to get it perfect. But it is very good already.

    • @jamesevans417
      @jamesevans417 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much same as me then. I have same spec engine 1776cc, Stock cam, IDF 40's. I'm running 52 idle, 180 air, 115 mains and f11s.

  • @chrisroberts675
    @chrisroberts675 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why on earth would you build a 1776 amd use a stock cam? These things were built severely detuned. That 1776 might be making 60hp....maybe. put an Engle 110 in it at least and it will be maing 80hp

    • @osc8
      @osc8  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chris Roberts well this would be my exact same question to the previous owner, who built the engine... i can’t figure it out either. This thing should and will have W110 and 1.25 rockers.

    • @daalhoffarm
      @daalhoffarm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because a stock cam is more easy to drive, to tune the engine, you wil have great torque from 1000 rpm up to 3500rpm. Its reliable, less valve train wear. Im running a 1915cc with stock cam and 40x35.5 valves, stock rockers, 36idf webers and having 95hp. Really nice to drive, never want a aftermarket cam anymore. So i understand the engine builder.

    • @daalhoffarm
      @daalhoffarm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By the way, a stock 1600 with dual dellorto 36 and stinger exhaust makes 64hp in eninge dyno. And a well tuned stock 1600 will have 55 to 57hp. Think this guy 1776 will be more than 70hp

    What size of transmission is with that engine?

    • @osc8
      @osc8  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      AC code (1500) transmission with 4.125 final drive. In my opinion the best combination there is for bigger engine and 205/70 rear wheels.

    • @humbertoamendozac7458
      @humbertoamendozac7458 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@osc8 i want to buy a 2332cc what transmission do you recommend ?

    • @osc8
      @osc8  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@humbertoamendozac7458 i do not have personal experience of such high end engine so i cannot recommend anything spesific for your application. But generally with hot motors i would be wary of unnecessary tall last 4th gears, especially with taller sidewall wheels like 205/70. With what i’ve learned from a couple of friends cars with taller 4th gears, you cant really drive with certain street speeds on 4th gear anymore and you also lower the fan speed that might create heat issues. On that note i feel the 1500 gearing is a very good all round option. But i would talk with someone more knowledgeable with actual experience of this first.
