1.8i R line - standard bumpers
The 1.8R - had the fancy bumpers and fender extensions.
250 or so R's were made. Unsure how many got the body kits but I know the bodykits had issues so VW SA made the 100 or so R's with standard citi bumpers and arches, everything underneath and on the interior side is identical.
So yes, like the today's VWs all brandish the "R line" badge. The same idea is with the 1.8i R line.
I personally think this is better because there were very VERY limited numbers of cars with that badge but without the bodykit and I have seen more Citi Rs than I have 1.8i R lines, just ONE. I saw one in my life.
Edit: A quick google search revealed that actually 100 Rs were made, 400 R lines were made without the bodykits.
I guess more people here have bought the rarer car because I genuinely haven't seen a single R line besides the one I mentioned.
