I just love how in this american show,they show the russians coming in to the rescue. Sg1 showed a somewhat nice vision of an united humanity vs an alien threat.
Well you know, they had to throw the Russian Federation a bone. Russia's own stargate program failed, their first SG team was wiped out, the Korolev was destroyed in battle when the Ori established their beachhead in the Milkyway... thaat time gua'ulds infiltrated the the Russian military in an attempt to start a nuclear war...

You need to think about it this way, Aliens attacked, you attack the Aliens attacking humans. Even in today's climate, I doubt Russia would be that much of an asshole to attack Americans being chased by hostile Aliens.
They definitely were not geared up for that kind of fight. They don’t have a direct counter to any of Earth’s long range artillery systems. As long as they controlled the air they could just bomb the gun batteries from the air but anywhere they didn’t have air cover they’d get pounded into the dirt.

Goauld don't have armored vehicles only infantry and that infantry is armed with staff weapons, which are hilariously ineffective against people but would no doubt eat Abrams and other earth tanks for breakfast. But average earth infantry man armed with an automatic weapon would dunk on Goauld infantry as is demonstrated on the show many times.
@@AnX555 as shown in the show, staff weapons have stupid short range while M1s, which have smoothbore barrel (ie shorter range than other tanks) can hit targets out to 2 kilometres. Not to mention that Abrams has 2-3 12.7mm HMGs, mounted either next to the barrel or on RWS. And HE shells.

I like that we actually got to see orbital bombardment from the Ha'taks. We finally get to see how a real orbital bombardment situation would've played out. The hits don't look overpowered to the point where it takes the narrative tenseness out of it, but they certainly managed to cause significant damage to D.C and by the looks of it, much of the Northeastern United States with their fleet.
I agree with you, the strength of the bombardment is pretty standard Gould method. It is fear based like their personal weapons. Rather than efficiently kill or destroy they want to rain down fire to intimidate and demoralise. They want for the most part slaves and planetary control so planet killer or continent breaking weapons doesn't fit their agenda. Whoever thought up the technological culture design did a good job sticking to it.
I wish we got to see thousands of ICBMs streaking into high atmosphere to hit the Ha’taks during that scene. Not even their shields could stop the mind boggling amount of megatons the worlds nations could throw at them.

Earth fighter jets have no business losing against craft as primitive as deathgliders and TIE fighters. At best they are WW2 dogfighters with energy weapons and the ability to go into space. Highly advanced, yet primitive fighting ability. They can only get kills within the pilot's line of sight. Meanwhile, just about every airforce has air-to-air missiles that allow jets to take out enemies beyond-visual-range (BVR). That being said, the larger craft of the Gua'uld Empire can probably detect missiles and deploy shields, or failing that pull an SR-71 and just speed away from incoming missiles.

Deathgliders are like the Jaffa Staff Weapons - instruments of terror. They can win an air battle but only through sheer numbers. Those 2 F-15s were likely going to get worn down by attrition, but I bet they took a disproportionate number of the Gliders with them
Would not have worked. Gliders can hover and do not need to move forward to sustain flight. They are or can be hypersonic too. They can zoom out to disengage and resume pursuit of primary targets.
The MiG-29 was an excellent fight….in 1975. In the intervening 50 years, it’s still as capable as it was back then, but the F-15 has been upgraded to approach the abilities of an F-35.

When i first saw this, the fighting from the movie Air Force One came to mind. I too enjoyed the fact that the RUSSIANS saved the AMERICANS. (not either myself)
The motherships are the biggest issue facing our current level of technology. Sending up ICBMs into orbit doesn't help when they can be intercepted and shot down easily. I have no doubt in my mind that in a dog fight, an F-22 Raptor would win out against a Death Glider, but an F-22 can't defend its airbase from a suborbital bombardment. As the series shows, Tauri weapons are more effective at fighting ground hostiles than the weapons of the Jaffa, as such weapons as the Ma'Tok staff are meant to intimidate not kill one's enemy whereas a P90's purpose is to stop an enemy with terminal force. In other words, the Jaffa on the ground are ultimately screwed for the long haul, unless the motherships in orbit just glass the entire planet - unlikely.

There have only been a few strong Goa'uld leaders, who I think could actually be thought of as being intelligent and cunning, such as Ba'al, Anubis and Ra. If it weren't for the freak accident that sent SG-1 back in time in Continuum, Ba'al's plan to take over Earth would have succeeded without having to fire a shot, presumably. I think ultimately that if Earth were attacked, the only effective resistance would come after the fall of established militaries and would rely on local resistance, because Ba'al did indeed say that the Tauri would always continue to fight for generations - presumably even after the fall of world governments.

I think the pilots have some kind of universal comms, so ship-to-ship may not be strictly necessary from their perspective. They can communicate between fighters.

Newer Russian fighters would only carefully shoot so that they don't waste all their rounds without hits. Not sure what's their purpose of having larger caliber guns but far less ammo

While gliders are fast and maneuverable, they lack a distinct measure of lethality in a dogfight. F15s have exactly one purpose, be the last thing flying after a dogfight. One is meant to cause fear, the other is meant to kill you VERY quickly.
Apart from saving SG1, what good is it for the fulcrums to draw the remaining gliders off in two directions. And i think Carter miscounted because i only saw 5 fulcrums

I would love to know how many casualties the snakes took during their invasion of Earth and how surprised they were at it. Bombarding cities is one thing but all the world governments would have had time to distribute their forces away from their bases. I don't think even the combined armies of the system lords would have been able to conquer the planet until the defenders literally ran out of ammo, and even then they would have captured weapons they would turn against the jaffa.
it's poor writing how in some episodes of Death Glider can literally reach the other side of the solar system in a very short amount of time yet it can't catch up to an American jet fighter

After the Fulcrums swopped in and bagged some of the gliders, I think they were trying to draw the rest of the gliders into a wagon-wheel.

This was a good scene. I just wish it was brighter because I could barely see anything.

You gotta watch the show. Death Gliders are actually garbage weapons. Two unguided slow firing cannons. They have no homing weapons. No Stealth, No computer assisted aiming.
