Favourites include Out of the Past, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, Spartacus, Paths of Glory, Gunfight at the OK Corral, Lonely Are the Brave, Seven Days in May, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Bad and the Beautiful, Detective Story, The Way West, The Last Sunset, I Walk Alone and Lust For Life. Favourite posters and stills are the first photo with the cub, Lust For Life, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Out of the Past, Seven Days in May, Gunfight at the OK Corral, The Bad and the Beautiful, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, Detective Story, Ace in the Hole, Man with a Horn, Last Train From Gun Hill, Lonely Are the Brave, The Way West, The Last Sunset, The Indian Fighter, Two Weeks in Another Town, Tough Guys, Gunfight, Ulysses and the final portrait.
Hi Flora, glad you're a fan, Burt and Kirk are big favorites of mine, and my fathers too. I've seen 34 of these, beating your tally probably because I've seen some of his later films like Saturn 3, Holocaust 2000 and The Fury. Lots of favorites here including - Spartacus (my favorite of his films), The Vikings, 20,000 Leagues, Paths of Glory, Out of the Past, Gunfight at the OK Corral, Last Train from Gun Hill, The War Wagon, Seven Days in May and The Final Countdown. Thanks again for commenting, happy you liked the posters and stills. I'll have a break from expanded videos for a few weeks, the next bunch will include Charlton Heston, Glenn Ford and William Holden.
An immensely great actor who superbly fitted all roles, an accomplished actor in the seventh art, a talented actor with natural predisposition for acting....may his soul rests in peace.
From Kirk Douglas' autobiography "The Ragman's Son": I met the director, Stanley Kubrick. He said he had a script called PATHS OF GLORY. I read the script and fell in love with it. "Stanley, I don't think this picture will ever make a nickel, but we HAVE to make it ." I got financing. It wasn't easy. When I arrived in Munich, I was greeted with a completely rewritten script. "Stanley, did you write this?" "Yes." "Stanley, why would you do that?" He very calmly said, "To make it commercial. I want to make money." I hit the ceiling. "You come to me with a script. I love THAT script. I got the money, based on THAT script. Not this shit!" I threw the script across the room. "We're going back to the original script, or we're not making the picture."
I have subscribed to about 15 on my U tube channel and honestly yours is my favorite, seeing info of films I have watched over the past 57 years sincerely A fan of your videos.
Thanks Lobo, much appreciated, always good to hear from a fellow classic movie fan. Remember the ratings and rankings are not as important as your own personal feelings of these films.
If you haven't seen the Devil's Disciple (#26) with Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Lawrence Olivier I highly recommend it. TCM will be showing it on 4th of July. (I also love 7 Days in May)
Kirk the man....the last living legend. Nice update. #49 Saturn 3 was a fun movie but critics destroyed it. #48 Arnold as the road runner and Kirk as the coyote....did not really work. #45 Greedy...saw it...barely remember it #44 Tough Guys....fun movie #40 Ulysses...the dvd version I saw the movie was horrible #38 Strangers When We Meet...Matthau plays a sleazy neighbor in this one #28 The Final Countdown...a great "what if" movie #27 The Fury...saw this one with my dad #25 War Wagon;...the best of the Wayne/Kirk movies #24 Young Man With A Horn...good but depressing #23 Adrian Messenger....fun movie #22 Crooked Man...love the ending #20 Man From Snowy River....one of my mom's favorite movies #18 In Harm's Way....Kirk is good as a not so nice guy #15 Strange Love of Martha Ivers.....his first role and first classic movie #14 Gunfight...the second best Earp/Holliday movie #13 The Vikings...what a cast...blockbuster #10 Lust for Life...another good one but depressing one #9 Lonely are the Brave...almost a forgotten Kirk movie #8 A Letter To Three Wives... nice mystery #7 7 Days in May....good thriller #6 Bad and Beautiful....great behind the scenes Hollywood movie #5 20,000 Leagues....monster hit #3 Out of the Past ...maybe the great film noir movie #2 Spartacus....the height of his career. #1 Paths of Glory...my favorite Kubrick movie. So that is 25 or half of his movies. Voted up and shared on our Kirk UMR page.
Epic post Bruce, I like your mini-reviews. 25 is not bad, Flora's tally was 32 and mine 34. Yup the last legendary actor from Hollywoods glorious past. Olivia de Havilland is still with us and she's older than Kirk, the last living legendary actress. From all the way back in the 1930s! Lots of favorites here but Spartacus tops them all for me. Thanks for the vote, share and comment, always appreciated.
Despite their low placings Cast a Giant Shadow and The Heroes of Telemark are very good movies and are much more enjoyable today than the dated 40s and 50s movies, placed higher I guess as cinema goers in those years were far greater in number.

Natalie Wood didn't think so.

GREAT STAR 20 7 2019
Il avait un jeu d'acteur impressionnant.
Where is the 1958 hit, "The Vikings?"
One of my favorites, it should be in there.
Where was " man to respect " ?
What about Bonnie And Clyde ?
for me "The Racers" would be higher up.
Where was 4 for Texas
Was Kirk in that? Or were you thinking of Dean Martin? Frank Sinatra?
Sorry , Kirk Douglas is not in the cast,
