- Brett Hawke and Cesar Cielo texted back and forth after David Popovici broke the 100 Free World Record.
They reminisced about the preparation and work they put in the lead up to the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Here are the differences between how Cesar Cielo broke the World Record and how David Popovici did it.

Records will be broken. But the medals & memories will always be there.
Someone breaking 50m freestyle World record could make that guy relevant forever in Swimming history!
@@kentajin7860 At this point, based on age and performance, Popovici is the most relevant except (maybe) Spitz. The most relevant records are 100 dash in track and 100 freestyle in swimming. 50m freestyle is a new and exotic one and David is not grown up enough to completely trash it. Yet. The question is, after Popovici retires, how many years/decades his records will hold. I am pretty sure, the best coaches around the world are working in overdrive to try to copy his technique and training methods.
I also think nobody will touch Popovici's records. In freestyle he's simply the best in history and only him can swim faster than he did.
@@feederaddict9409 records always broken but agree for now I can’t see anyone beating them but him
Excellent insight & analysis. This is why I truly hope we have Chalmers, Dressel, Popovici lanes 3,4,5 in the Paris final. Dressel out in let's say 21.9 (very realistic), then Chalmers & Popovici needing to come home in 23 to beat him.
That would be incredible to see and honestly predicting who would win, very tough.

21.9 is not realistic wtf 😭. Dressel hasn’t ever been out faster that 22.2 🤷♂️

@@aidennorman6382 hes caeleb dressel do you not know how fast he is and can go?
There is no competition now. Popovici too strong. In 2 yrs time he will get even better. So time has gone by for both Chalmers and Dressel.
Popovici competitor in Paris will have to be Someone else.
Very interesting, specially the part of how to get to the record. It seems (a bit) a 'return' to the old Touretsky-style school of lots of km to develop feeling, rather than the 'modern' approach of low total km - high quality workout
well chlorinedaddy does have popov in his name
fact
Hello from România! Good video!! We love David! Congrats also to all the sportivs all over the world! ❤💛💙🇹🇩🇹🇩
Hello from România
I think that no one will have the capacity to beat Popovicci in the next 10 years, if he at the age o 17 broke the 16 years old record where that was 8 super fast swimmers! what he is not going to do at 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, etc.
Would be great if u could make a comparison of romanchuk vs popovici styles, techniques, frequencies etc... :)
I am în romania
I am in your mom
Ok and?
He is his own man...
@@nolongerinbetween3913 .. Cine a vorbit despre Triplă aici ?
Noi suntem o colonie, avem stăpâni, si asta spune tot.
Same pool for two consecutive wr 🤔 well knowing how Italians (or better to say Romans) are sluggish and unprofessional with everything they do it wouldn't surprise me if this pool is a bit shorter!)
Possibly, lol.
?????
Imagine if you were right about this topic!
Even if you're right, the bouth world records were set there!
there's a reason why 43 world records fell in this pool in 2009, and it's not because the pool is short
