I don't know any person (in person) that beat the 2nd quest. Online I have met MANY people who have. It was a lot of fun figuring out the differences.
I took it on in 1987. I love that Nintendo decided to basically release 2 games in one.
When you beat Zelda the game starts automatically in the 2. quest. It´s a nice touch. So the game is really long. You got a lot for your money back in the days

I beat second quest at 10. I skipped a whole week of school "sick" and used nintendo power A LOT, but I somehow pushed through it. Good lord I should probably update my resume with that. Anyway, good luck and have fun finding the raft.

The original Zelda was the first game I ever completed as a child (probably because it was the only game I had that I could save my progress), but I never had beaten 2nd quest until a couple of years ago. I played it completely blind and I was stuck for hours trying to find levels 8 and 9 (level 8 being across a river in a random wall). I also was stuck on level 2 until I realized that you could walk through certain walls. Can't wait to see Barb encounter all this random cryptic bullshit. Thanks for the upload.

Looking back at it now. I absolutely cannot believe I beat that second quest without any help. Took a long time. I accidentally discovered the ability to go through the wall. Can't do that in the first quest
I started to stream my gaming and immediately got the asinine comments about being bad. Made me not want to do it anymore. Haha. Your patience laudable.
Lol Link's inability to speak comes from his early years where his main method of finding where to go in a dungeon was bashing his head against every wall in sight until it worked.

I speed ran both quests so many times, the second quest is MUCH HARDER, and takes a good amount longer if you get all weapons/suits/etc. The dungeon locations in the 2nd quest are so much harder to locate too, it’s interesting watching Barb play this.
God this game is so nostalgic
P.S. I can’t believe he has played over 2 hours and hasn’t even bought the shield upgrade! 😱 lol

Hey! I make The Legend of Zelda (NES version 8-bit) ROM hacks and would love to see you guy try to tackle one. They are tricky and challenging. Definitely will make you think at times. I can E-mail you one if you would be up for the challenge. I changed shops, dungeon locations, dungeon items, dungeon maps, outside world map, secrets and more. I would enjoy watching you play a blind run through of it

Ah, Zelda 2nd Quest. Something a huge number of NES gamers never knew even existed, which is good because it was the absolute EPITOME of Fake Difficulty, as Barb is demonstrating. 'Oh hey guys here's necessary progression items locked behind invisible walls and bomb spots from the very fist dungeon, hope you like farming endlessly for bombs to test every wall!!!!'
This is a different era of Nintendo… this and Japanese Mario 2 are just mean games. I’d say designed to sell strategy guides, but not sure it was a thing back then, I don’t recall.

But no, Zelda was made this hard to force kids to talk to their friends about it to figure out what was going on, and thus to spread word of mouth about the game, not to sell guides per se. The game came with a paper fold-out map.

Can you imagine how much it would suck if you got this game when it came out in 86 and your name was actually Zelda? Be telling your friends about how damn hard it was and where you found the dungeons and them calling you out for bullshit because no one knew about quest 2 yet?

The lack of boomerang is obliterating me. It's just making the game so much harder than it was intended, that's why its in the first dungeon. You are supposed to use it to protect yourself from skittering ass enemies so you can safely farm hearts and get topped off. Without the stun its a massive negative value to engage pretty much any enemy. Can't believe chat wasn't screaming it...
