I own a set. I can tell you it takes about 10 seconds to actually understand, once you know what to look for. Like I said, I got a lot of praise from younger gamblers who thought the chips looked so cool (like 20s) whereas the guys and girls in their 50s and 60s said they didn't like the design to read.
I just received a sample set of br pro chips and super disappointed. The weight is only 5g and the quality of the edge print is quite Poor. That may be due to the example design they sent being not that good, but still won’t be going BR for my customs.
I don't know when, your dice chips were made, but i took my dice chips like you did, press them like you although did and i can tell you they're perfectly flat.. not even a tenth of a milimeter between'em.. I think since a few years, quality has been improved.. Ok they're the "cheepest chips" but they do the job !! (excuse me for my bad english...) These chips can also be order from BR Pro Poker right here in the United States. This would save you money on shipping, and then maybe you wouldn't have to do a group buy.

these modern ceramic chips are far to expensive unless you find people to split a 50,000 order from China.

Nope. So many other ceramics to choose from. All of them nicer than these
i dont like them. spaydz however look similar and are 100 x better looking
