- One person has died and several others are injured after a tire struck the windshield of a tour bus on the QEW in St. Catharines Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the scene at the bottom of the Garden City Skyway Bridge.
Niagara EMS spokesperson Bryce Brunarski says the tire of a minivan flew into the windshield of the tour bus carrying 38 passengers.
He says one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP says an unidentified 47-year-old man from Toronto who was a passenger on this coach bus was killed when a stray tire crashed through the windshield and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 45-year-old man from New York state who was driving the minivan that lost its wheel has been served a part-three summons for driving an unsafe motor vehicle.
I was driving on the #1 highway outside of Vancouver when I was going to move over and pass an 18 wheeler. For some reason I stayed behind him, at that exact moment one of the wheels flew off and passed right in front of me with such force it took down a fence about a hundred yards off the hwy.
Terrifying!!
Sorry for the passage & his family🌹
Ive seen it lots, people driving with loose wheels.. im not sure how you wouldn’t feel your vehicle violently shaking for probably 30 mins before it finally comes off.
And so it goes. No one has accountability
Condolences to the drivers family and friends
The driver did not die thankfully but I knew the deceased man and he was working as the host of the bus when this tragedy happened. He was seated behind the driver.
This is so very tragic. My friend's husband drive charter buses and knew the bus driver. !y most sincere condolences to the family of the man.

Should be charged with murder!
Wow N.Y. state has yearly vehicle inspections required by law. I'm surprised to see the vehicle was from there.
It wasn’t the bus who lost a tire tho?
@TheMatthewLuca no, it was a minivan who lost the tire
@@SV-je8mg I know…? That’s what my comment says. Reading is hard i guess.
@@TheMatthewLucaif it was a comment then why the question mark??? typing is hard I guess
Let’s see the suspect Lemme guess
Maintain a safe distance when you drive.
I took my car in for some maintenance and without my having asked, they removed my wheels to check my brakes. They mentioned that they'd checkd them, but did not mention a re-torque. A couple of days later, when I was about to use my car, I noticed that one lugnut was loose and another was missing. This could have happened to me. Let's not be too quick to judge. It was an accident .
1:11, at likely higher than highway speeds.
What...through a bus. Thats crazy
To properly tighten a wheel, the hub surface and rim must be clean and free of corrosion, a must in the rust belt. Then, do not allow the full weight of the vehicle down on the ground while tightening the lugnuts in a crisscross pattern. We discovered that you lower the car all the way down onto the ground to tighten even using a torque wrench, when it comes back for a retorque you will find one or two always loose even when you think you have them tightened. Unfortunately these simple techniques were not taught to us in either high school or college.
😢❤🙏😔💔🚌
A lot of people do not do their own maintenance so this is likely to land on whoever last changed his tires if they did not report any problems or under/over tightened his wheel nuts. It is worth the cost of a torque wrench to check and recheck after any wheel has been removed/installed. I have found lugs that I have missed and tire shops have missed (or there was something stopping them seating properly the first time)
Oh no that’s terrible. 😓
1:05, that is actually what she said.
I had new tires put on at a dealership and they did not tighten the lug nuts with machine - mechanic forgot - loosely put on by hand because they were busy. I drove and realized something was wrong as the car was shaking. Went to another mechanic and he said the lug nuts were about to fall off. Could have injured or killed someone. 😫
you picked a fine time to leave me
loose wheel
👍🤣
The tire came off a dodge; go figure…..🤬🤬🤬👎🏻👎🏻
I've seen that bus before it's the Toronto Hotel bus that takes Chinese tourists to Niagara Falls.
Man from NY. Any bets on whether he will show up in court?
I'm wondering if the tire went into the oncoming lanes or just went behind the van.
I don't drive on the freeways anymore for this one reason: Kinetic energy. I have noticed that when I drive on 2-lane roads where the speed limit is only 80km/h, and a stone comes off an oncoming truck and hits my windshield, it makes a loud noise but no damage is done to the glass. But at 100km/h and above, the kinetic energy that stone has is much higher and it always cracks my windshield. While driving on freeways I replaced my glass 5 times over 8 years. After that, I stayed on side roads with a speed limit of 80km/h and its been 5 years now and no more glass damage since then.
Stay home, it's safer.
For most, highway use is not optional. Maybe you like riding your seatless bicycle over train tracks. Mmmmmm, feels nice!
How the owner maintenance the car....
I am sure the shitty roads had nothing to do with the wheel falling off ,fix the damm roads
I noticed it’s probably not owners fault it’s Chrysler quality if you look back at other incidents it’s mostly all Chrysler vehicles and ram pickups
Oh stop it.
No details on the suspect=immigrant of colour
I think you will find it was a wheel & tire.
➡What to learn from this: Force companies to add a metal guard around their large flat windshields. Drivers doing all the work are putting their life on the line to carry some privileged CEO's extracted gains. They are on our public roads and they must meet proper safety standards at a minimum.
We don't need Mad Max Busses, we need proper, regular, car inspections and decent mechanics.
@@Derzull2468 Of course we need proper vehicles. My opinion of the infrastructure is that it should be modernized so that advanced rail becomes the way.
And what's easier, forcing everyone to have a well regulated vehicle in a world where we can't afford new cars, or mandate companies (Owners have the wealth) to secure the workers they extract and civilians on our tax paid roads?
@@Popeslash Most countries I lived in had mandatory mechanical control every year for vehicles older than 5 years or so. Checking the brakes, the wheels, traces of rust, ... All the things people should do but don't, ever.
