Back to back tenncom videos??? LETS GOOOOOO
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is tearing up the courts with his Pure Drive 🔥🤯
Yeah GMP brought me here
His PRO STOCK PURE DRIVE!!!!
I love how mpetschi pericard perfectly fits the game style you recommended this racquet for.
Great video, loved the honesty to recognize that upgrades are minimal instead of just pushing the new product! Could you do a comparison with the ezone 100? :)
Yo, the direct tennis ad timing was *impeccable* ! I usually skip these, but this got me unprepared!
Having a pure drive I had to learn how to hit flat balls as I used the pure aero before and every shot had topspin. It was really frustrating in the beginning as I was struggling to control the bal but the more I played with it the more I love the pure drive and I think its only going to make me a better player in the long run as I find its easier to go for winners with a pure drive than a pure aero in my opinion. Thanks for your thoughts Simon much appreciated. And as always Beckett keep up the amazing reviews I have loved watching your videos in 2024 and I wish you a great 2025 🎉
I remember when Pure Drives were the hot "new racket" getting buzz in the early 2000s when a couple guys on my varsity team started using them. Everyone was like "yea these feel like cheap toys but the results are pretty great."
To think that it's now seen as almost a "classic" relic and hear someone like Simon desribe it as having an aristocratic feel, boggles the mind. Times certainly change.
Perhaps I was too harsh on you, Pure Drive, I've become fond of seeing you pop up here and there amidst all the yonexes and clashes and Aeros. You're still here and so am I, and that's worth celebrating. Maybe I'll watch some old Andy Roddick and Kim Clijsters highlights.
In the 2020's I'm just happy to test racquets with consistent flexes. IMO this is what makes the PD feel semi classic. The super stiff hoop super soft throat thing that other brands are doing grinds my gears in the same way that thick beams with hollow feels frustrating Prestige lovers.
Thorough review as always. Couple of questions:
1. Does the flax cause ANY drop in power compared to 2021 PD?
2. Does this racquet have more power than the new Ezone 100?
Why am I asking these questions?
1. I use a 2021 PD and the power level is perfect for me.
2. I have a 2023 pure aero and I really really love the feeling of the flax. But the Aero doesn't have enough power to save me when I'm out of position (ie 90 percent of the time) so I went back to the PD 2021 purely for the power.
3. If there is no power loss and the flax feels the same as the 2023 Aero I will gladly upgrade to the PD2025.
4. My favorite feeling power racket is the Ezone 100, but it doesn't have nearly enough power for me. But they say the Gen 8 has 4% more power than before (But I don't know where that puts it in relation to the PD.) So, if Gen 8 has as much power as the PD 2025, I will switch to the Ezone 100.
Which leads me to a final request.
Will you please do an Ezone 100 get 8 head to head with the 2025 PD.
Sorry for this stupid long comment.
Many thanks.
Great laid out question, which I appreciate and would also be interested in reading the outcome too. 👍
1. Nothing that I noticed
2. I'm leaning no but I haven't hit them back to back with the same strings. I will do a full comparison vid when I get an EZ.
IMO the 2025 PD feels almost the same. Very slightly more muted/solid with a bit more dwell time but I wouldn't say it feels softer exactly. Arguably I think QC and spec variance good explain the difference between the 2021 and 2024.
@ You’re a good man, Beckett. Thanks for the reply.
I got the 2025 pure drive early and I think this is a great review of the frame! I too use a heavier racket (shift pro with a leather grip) and I had the same thought about how stable the pure drive so much so it had me thinking about a switch. I don’t know that I will, but that’s how good it is! Great review (as always)!
your comment about it being very similar to last model intrigues me - mainly because there's a few discounted sticks going around of Gen10. How would you describe the difference? more pingy? like when you play with/without a dampener? or something different?
and you probably know this already - but if you work on crouching and loading your hips/legs more you are going to have a heck of a weapon on your forehand because your hand/racquet speed is actually pretty high level 😊
The old one is slightly more pingy and crisp but its minor imo. Also yes, thanks, I'm working on my hip mobility to help facilitate better load.
another great video. huge fan btw
king
this release along with the new ezone has me so excited for racquets right now. hopefully I can hold on to my money for as long as possible.😅
if you can make it through January then you can reward yourself with 5 new racquets in february
Thank god I thought because of your tennis warehouse participation you might end up “only nice” reviews but it is not the case
Keep going 🎉🎉
Nah we all have completely free reign. I'm lucky to have a partner like TW what values community as part of their business.
Is it good for a one handed backhand? Wold you recommend this or the gravity tour 98?
How did it customisation work? On one hand, balanced points dropped, more head light. On the other hand, swing weight increased 10pts.😮
is it worth the upgrade from the 2022 model? I have shoulder problems adn use the PD Plus string with a hybrid of gut and Velocity MLT strung at 53. I also play with a Boom PRo. Love youir videos.
Short answer is no
imo it's mostly the same frame as before
I think if you have shoulder problems, you might want to switch from power racket to control racket. Pure drives and ezones are great sticks, but seem to cause a lot of pain for rec players. Can also stop using poly which worked for a friend of mine.
@@AidanBond thx for the note. i am using vs gut in mains a land velocity jlt in crosses. so very soft strings
Interesting, why do you do hybrid with gut vs just a full bed of multi?
You have me curious about where its unique stability comes from. Given its moderate wt. and SW, I was sure the source would have to be a high twistweight, especially given that TW has 2024 Ani's at 15.6tw. But at 10:38, you show it unstrung at 13.2, which makes it, what, about 14tw strung? Now I'm stumped...
yeah there's something funky going on
Would the PD's stiffness issues be mitigated if you dropped tension more than usual?
I feel that the sole reason about arm issues regarding stiff rackets is that people also use stiff poly strings at moderate to high tension. If they dropped tension to a range lower than usual or use a thinner or softer poly, it wouldn't be so harmful on the arm.
Agree, i have a pretty sensitive elbow but i have been able to use racquets with RA's in the high 60's by using a full bed of multi at 45 lbs. String is more important than racquet stiffness IMHO
I think the dampening they've done here is enough to mitigate the comfort issues for most players. I don't personally see a need to string this one over 52lbs if you are using a decent poly. I could probably drop down to 45lbs and still be fine.
@@TennComI do love how people complain about Babolats being arm killers, then proceed to string an Aero with 370 swing weight with RPM Blast at 55 lbs.
I'd been waiting for this review! But like you close out the video with, it seems like if you own the 2021 version, you're all set, most of the pros you mention of this racquet that aren't typically associated to Pure Drives (slices, control and competency at the net) are things I had been pleasantly surprised by the 2021 model. I was curious how it was for spin production, as I felt I've been hitting with more top, but maybe it is a bit due to better technique I guess. Curiously though, my factory spec PDs are both very near the spec you ended up with after a bit of light customization. Yay for QC consistency...
Strings wise I'll have to try out PTP (living in Mexico I still can't seem to get Toroline strings easily) on my PD. Have loved a hybrid of Alu Power Rough and Ghostwire, but it's not the most budget friendly set up, so alternatives are welcomed. I'll be trying out Confidential and lynx touch after my current string set is done for, buying a set of each for cheap with holiday sales discounts.
Yeah for me they are almost the same racquet. The differences are extremely subtle and that's probably one of the reasons as to why they didn't rush the update. Topspin production is not great with the Pure Drive, there are several 100s, including the EZONE 100, that help me find more spin. Another setup you might like is subbing RPM Power for ALU Power with Ghostwire. RPM Power was the string I used to test the 2021 PD and it was a great pairing.
@@TennCom I will absolutely try RPM power, thanks so much for the suggestion!
I find if i add a few grams of lead tape to the door of my nissan versa it has the same plow through as the g wagon
how to 10x the value of your versa with this one simply trick
Merci pour la vidéo ! Mais j'en peu plus d'attendre !!! je veux une revu sur les nouvelles T-Fight !!! lol :)
Hey Beckett! would you have any multi / synthetic gut recommendations for this racket? or just use standard prince duraflex?
My insights on nylons are pretty useless. I never try raccquets strung with nylon because the strings just don't work for me. Ball speed, spin, general heaviness all take such a hit for me that I don't bother.
@@TennCom thank you, I appreciate your response!! Good hitting!
100% agree with your take on ‘control’..Predictable is key…Looks wise, it’s lighter in real life than it looks on video and certainly not ‘girly’..Perricard uses it and he’s a monster of a man lol..Almost feels cheat code with Perricard using a 100sq power stick🤣…Do you know his actual specs? Only thing I found is that it’s 100sq”
Hi! I’m playing now with a babolat pure aero 100 and would like to ask which string you recommend.
Thanks a lot!
We liked Grapplesnake Tour M8 most in that frame when we did the review
@ I’m trying now M8 and O-toro and I also prefer M8z
Thanks a lot !!
What is your recommendation for a 188 cm.- 44y int. player, playing 2-3 time a week for four-five years. Clash Pro V3, new Ezone 100, PD or wait for the new T fight?
Do you practice with a coach or just play some balls?
If the latter is your thing, then just demo some of these.
If you practise with a coach, then better get a Percept 100. Or a Gravity. The cleaner your swing is, the less beginner friendly your racquet should be.
@@sebastiandomagala9233 Sometimes i play with a coach but mostly i play with other point players. The problem with my swing is that I slow down with the stroke and often end up too close to the ball.
@@svetli2181 That will change with more practice.
A more demanding racquet will force you to swing correctly. Whereas a beginner friendly one will let you get away with oder technique.
Choice is up to you. Wanna learn or play?
Glad Simon phoned in
Hi, im currently using the gravity 2023 MP. I have difficulties with full swing at the moment. I just cannot feel confident with my full swing. I tried to use the pure aero, and it feels great. I wonder why? maybe because it is not stable? or maybe theres a problem with the swing weight? I am planning to change into gravity 98, but im still not sure. Maybe theres some info / suggestion you can give me? Or should I try another racket?
I'd go with the Pure Aero if it's working for you! The G98 is a beast to use, require a lot of swing effort and good footwork to maximize.
@@TennCom the problem is that the Pure Aero is quite harsh in my arm. Im looking something thats more plushy but have similar feeling with it. I think Ill got with G98, thanks btw
Beckett - PA98 is a 16*20, RA 70, sw is right around 295… both have the flax inserts.
Seems like the only difference is color?
I assume you are referencing the PD98 (this is the 100 video) and the PD98 and the PA98 play completely differently. Balance point and beam shape completely change the playability.
Would like a straight up comparison to the Diadem Nova V3.
Surprised you didnt opt for your fave Toroline string O Toro. Hybrid that with Caviar may produce softer feel and more spin to complement the power of the frame? Cheers
I usually use O-Toro if I'm finding strong spin with a frame and Caviar if I'm having better success flattening shots out. With the PD, after I used Sync and Blast, I was preferring to hit through the court with a flatter ball so I went to Cav. You are right I should try hybriding them I just haven't made the time.
@ I use that blend with Head Extreme and the Caviar does a great job flattening out the high launch of the frame - love to see that hybrid string review in 2025! Cheers
What strings and tension do you recommend?
Best setup for me was Caviar at 52lbs.
Hey sir beckett the wise! I'm getting pure aero 98 tattooed on my bicep and volkl cyclone on the other bicep.
What are you going to put on your forehead?
@TennCom I'm going to put tenncom on my forehand
I’m scared to try out the pure drives, lol. I’ll probably end up ordering some of the 100s for my store but don’t think I’ll get the 98s.
How is it compared to FX500?
From what I remember the FX pockets the ball more and has more power/stability but doesn't feel quite as precise
That zoom in was nefarious, just cooked his whole zoom review.
Never been a fan of the Pure Drive because I can’t feel a damn thing! 🤣 What strings can, if possible, add some feel to remove the articaine and epinephrine from this numbing racquet? 😂
Nobody mentions the interchangeable throat grommets?
what do you mean?
@@TennComthe new PD comes with two types of throat pieces. You didn’t get that with the demo?
@@EGchristian waaaaaaaaaaaa
@@TennComokay, the alternative one is a thicker piece of plastic, kinda like the ones on the Dunlop racquets but more refined looking. I’m not sure if its purpose is just to elongates the mains by a few mm or it actually has a ‘suspension’ structure. PD 98 should have it too. Surprised that so far there seems to be no info on that on YT. Maybe Babolat wants to save it for the official launch.
@@EGchristian yeah I didn’t get any info on that. Nothing in TW either from what I can see
A pure drive 100 vs ezone100 battle royale comparo vid is required
coming once i can get me an ezone
Does the 2025 Ezone 100 beat it?
Shoutout to GMP
Don´t underestimate weight as a stability help.
I still remember a doubles opponent. Older than me, flawless technique, thick and light racquet (I mean Head Ti. S6 thick). When he approached the net and got a heavy topspin forehand from me, I shot his racquet out of his hand.
Your 330 g strung weight is no badminton style racquet by far. But trading in weight for thick beam racquets only gets you so far.
Love your videos Beckett! We help athletes level up their mental game with an AI journal and sessions like visualization and binaural beats. The response has really great and athletes are loving it. Would be fun collaborate - do you mind if I email you?
These damn things are so easy to play with that I’m afraid I’ll get worse at tennis if I play with one long term.
Power frames are the way
Bottom line: it's like last version
Pure Aero Rafa > Pure Drive

Pure Drive killing arms for 30 years!
No. Only for those who don't know to play with the good strings
@@nerd_flanders2216 no your wrong. I very used VS gut in Pure Drives and it still hurt. So have thousands of other tennis players. You don't know what you're talking about. And for that matter I use RPM Blast at 50# in my E Zone and have no problems.
