"For the moment we are safe but beware: the youth of the world is on the move and their aim is to take over". This soundtrack and footage touchs my heart. Still actual in 2020.
Splendid! I believe Claude Jutra made a number of films for the NFB before getting into feature films. It's interesting that the skateboarders are all anglophone kids, with some of their dialogue subtitled in French.
We used to ride skateboards in the 60s when I was fifteen-sixteen years old and my brother was eleven. He had a Makaha skateboard. I rode a Leisure Line skateboard, a less expensive model. If I fell off a skateboard at my current age I'd fall apart in my own glue. It was great being so young and reckless.
Please share a story of that time... Please, you are like an ancestor of mine in a way... Thank you and apologies if it was too weird or effusive of a request.May you have a great day :)
Dude I get it, I rode in the 70s , we didn’t even know what an Ollie was. Bowls blew our minds. I remember riding and falling all day. These days I got about one or two fall per day ( geared up) I remember when we used to line rocks down a hill so we could slalom. He didn’t have pads or helmets.
Wow, a lot of skaters back then were crazier then the ones today. We have couples deciding to ride on the same board, which would be easier now, but they had small boards back then, and that one where there was a girl on a guy's shoulders, WHAT? No one tries doing that anymore
i met a sixty year old the other day that still rides albeit a longer board and with pads and a helmet but pushing miles from home to get to a park where he could do his workout.
Yes we are. I ride a longboard now. I live 3.3 miles from a skatepark. I let the kids make fun of me all the time. These kids don’t even know what clay wheels were.
Seeing them in the ice rink skating was like seeing captured coral reef fish being put in a fish tank with no where to swim to anymore. That part hits hard
Director died in 1986, allegations of child rape in 2016, with one survivor having come forward. He had awards named for him that were renamed in wake of the allegations.
Back then: a board an wearing no brand, you were well come. No posers. Today: a board and must-worn brand, or otherwise you're a poser. Sad that a kid is downlooked nowadays just because of their outfit.
The sarcasm and dry humor in the film are excellent.
watching Jeff Grosso's love letters brought me here.. so glad to find such an amazing film.
Thankyou for uploading

"Wheels of circular design" As opposed to those efficient square wheels.

Quite ingenious, really!!
Don't forget that the ground tends to remain stationary.
Bizarro world moment
Man brings back memories. Everything we used to do back in the day

Children are only allowed to have officially sanctioned fun.
That's what I was thinking, even if you could do an invert, that is scary, your girlfriend on top of you. Double bad luck.
@@shawnmclean7932 on tiny metal wheels and a board with no grip tape. lol.
Mark Gonzales did.
And riding tandem, I totally forgot about that.
these kids are all in their _sixties_ now. at least.
life is not long. keep each minute well.
and hopefully a few are still skating and have many years ahead of them.
@@5hanesBoard life is the longest thing youll ever do at the same time
Live in then now, the present is all that matters. Time is not as precious as we think.

Skaters have the same spirit since the 60s
Love the music and closing song. Song sung by Genevieve Bujold

Enjoyed this very much .. !! thank you .
epic!
priceless gem, this RIDE Channel
Sick footage! But it's no wonder the police was pissed, did you see the milk bottles on their hands? And in the middle of the day...
Speechless.
wonderful piece of art
Here from the Bill Danforth interview
it feels as if Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99was doing a description of what skateboarding is about xD
What are the names of the spots they used to skate?
The youth in this video are about 70yrs old now and I don`t think they took over.
Yeah, they did take over. They are boomer generation, and that generation changed the social norms and now has most of the country's wealth.
Looks like a music video for The Smiths
Must have been a famine in the 1960s - none of these kids are anywhere near 260 pounds like lucky people today.
Bill Danforth Talkin' Schmit brought me here.
Can anyone tell me the name of the skateboarding history documentary that featured this film for the beginning?
It's all the same documentary, isn't it?
This is mentioned in the Vans documentary about skateboarding in Canada. They said the director had a questionable history. Can anyone elaborate?
Clickbait love letters to skateboarding?
