  • HOW TO FIND NEW WATER TO TROUT FISH!!
    MERCHANDISE LINK: hardman-fishin...
    In today's video I decided to show you how I go about exploring new creeks and trying to find new water to trout fish. Usually during an average week I spend a few hours after work and try to explore some new water. I typically find new water by "Blue Lining" different tributaries of river systems that I know have trout in them. Most creeks I explore aren't all that great, or don't have trout at all. But every now and again I find a gem! Either way exploring the Appalachian Mountains always gives you a view of some uniquely beautiful country along the way.

    Great fishing. Great video. Some of viewers still have trouble understanding how to find a 'good' creek. Please explain a creek that sees less fishing pressure is a creek that has difficult access. Creek sections that are away from any roads or parking lots. Typically way down deep in a limited access valley. It's usually a long slippery walk down. We fish up stream. Then, once you're tired, an even longer uphill slog in waders to find the truck. That's why that creek sees very little pressure.

    Hi Jon, I am familiar with the level/clarity of water you guys prefer fishing streamers in, but when is your favorite time to fish that water in relation to weather fronts and pressure? Thanks! Love the videos BTW!

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! And I like to fish pre frontal conditions usually. Just because the water is still fishable and the large pressure swings get the trout feeding. I'll even fish into/through a big storm. Post frontal conditions usually aren't as good, but for brook trout it doesn't matter as much. It has a lot more to do with the amount of water/clarity for them

    • @williamsoni
      @williamsoni 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds to me like you are trying to cast too fast. Both the forward and the backward cast should be a slow acceleration once you feel the line load up the rod. Look up some casting tips on either the orvis youtube channel or somewhere like mad river outfitters. Either of these channels should help you.

    What do you recommend for a good high quality fly rod for under 200?

    • @NickAndCaroline
      @NickAndCaroline 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to Walmart and get a $20 dollar fly rod if they have em, you don’t need the reel. Get the 8’5” long 5 weight for stream fishing trout or the 9’ long, 8 weight if you’re doing bass and pike in bigger streams or lakes/ponds. Then take that cheapo rod to a fly shop and tell them you want an orvis Clearwater reel, weight forward fly line and backing to match up to your rod weight. They’ll spool it all up for ya too. You’ll probably buy a few tapered leaders and some tippet. You should walk away from everything just under 200 bucks. This is a good cheap setup to help you decide if you have the patience to pursue fly fishing haha. It’s hard, but nothing worth it comes easy young man, builds character! Lol.

    How'd you tell age?

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Older fish lose their parr markings and have rings on their tail (usually). I also know the general size in the systems I'm fishing in so if the fish are overall much smaller it probably means they're the young of the year that stayed up there for protection when they were born last fall/winter.
