I Can see it now "Pecan Groves' number one Prime select Cornmeal" Featuring our special Heirloom Variety Danny corn.. Getcha some today!! , It's Lip Smackin Delicious, Yes Suh ! Makes a Puppy pull a freight train !.....LOL.
Danny, I think you have made the right decision by leaving you mill original. I can't hardly wait to see it in action! I sure am glad to see you now have your own stone gristmill!
Its a 83 year old production mill. Looks like its been redone in the last 20 years. Im like you. Clean it up and put it back together. Im interested in seeing this project move along. Be nice to have an old hit and miss motors powering it. Put all on an wagon and go to events and demostrate the old ways of grinding corn.
Sir that is sure a nice mill. I would say you and your wife have some wonderful friend's. This is not surprising you two really seem to be wonderful, God loving people. Thank you for allowing us to join you two in your home and on your farm. God Bless you 2 and your family.
I am so happy that the stones are in better condition than you anticipated. Thank you both for taking us along as you checked the condition of the mill. I am very happy for you.
Flood Penetrol would work great on this. Both the metal and wood and way easier, and I think better than marine varnish for this project. It is an oil paint additive but if you read the label it can also be applied as is. I have had great results. I love your videos ! Thank you for your effort
My granddad instructed the grandkids helping to clean out a shed to throw one similar to yours on a huge burning pile. This was to get rid of the wood because the metal was going to the scrap yard. That was around 1962. The old mechanical equipment was in the way and nobody want anything to do with that back breaking way of doing things. He had the same notion as you Danny, if it’s not of use or contributing to the good of the farm it’s gone. My grandmother threatened to leave several times I was told because of his notions. They made it til death they did depart. Miss them greatly!
I enjoy seeing how the old/vintage equipment works and was made. I don't have a grist mill, but my antique hand slaw/kraut cutter has been in use since about 1880 first by my great grandma, my grandma, my mom and now me. The wood is weakening, the blades are rusted and dulling, but it still cuts cabbage and the occasional wayward fingertip!
Hi Danny and Wanda. Nice to have a peek at the Grist Mill in the midst of some cow brushing 😀 This has been taken care of not left out in the elements. Nice they have all the parts you need for your mill. It's impressive that it's in such good shape. I like that antique look as well and glad your going to leave it like that. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad I got to catch up and have a look with you both. Rich blessings to you both and your endeavors with this mill.
Can't wait to see your mill in action. Very interesting piece of equipment. Can't believe the company had everything in stock. Y'all have a blessed day
Thats a fantastic find. Back in those days things were made to last not like today with the throw away products. I know you both will enjoy using that mill for many years. It's obvious that mill was well used, well taken care of and now has a new home to be used again.
This is so exciting to see it going again. It’s going to be great to leave in its original paint. It has history and has a story. Glad to know you are not repainting. Going to be following the restoration. Exciting. Ingrain my own grains on my home mill. To see this huge mill is fantastic.
Amazes me how vertical stones can grind better than two stones that would be horizontal to each other with a hole in the top one and grooves in the bottom one. Can't wait to see how It works and exactly how the gap can be adjusted between the stones. Great video as usual gang and well done it's awesome 🙏
I love watching this, it reminds me so much of my pops, who would be wearing overalls, and tinkering with his tractors, and he had old cars he’d work on . Great times.
My neighbor had a large stone mill and all the other corn shelling and processing equipment that looked like the lights were just turned off and everything just stopped. Then highway department widened the highway and the mill was moved into a new building across the highway and not long after it burned down. Terrible loss
I have seen a design like this before. I look forward to seeing it in action once you get it cleaned and fixed the way that you want it. I'm so happy for you!
I know y’all are excited to get the mill in operation it’s a blessing I’m sure and ought to really do a fantastic job milling corn or whatever God Bless
Paint is probably OK but could check for lead. Vanishing will probably cover that up. I don't think it is old enough for lead. Won't hurt to check. Love antiques
Please don’t make it shiny at least. I love that old paint and it could be buttermilk paint. If it is, it just needs a little cleaning with murphys oil soap. I’ve been an antique dealer for 35 years and have seen a lot of nightmares where people have tried to improved something like this. Varnish will change the color of the paint and will peel and crack in the future. That would be sad!
Would you go through the theory of operation? Show where the corn enters the gap between the stones and where it exits. Show the mechanism that sets the stone gaps and such. Thanks.
I'm with you on that. The gap setting is something that interests me and how vertical stones can grind better than horizontal stones. Interesting design.
@denniscleveland669 yes yes. Early engineers were so innovative it's crazy . Innovation from necessity. If well maintained these are very consistent an easy to work on .
My family has what I think is identical to that. We to get busy putting it back in operation. Our father (born in 1924) told me that was his job after school to grind corn meal to sell.
'Good morning. Pouring rain today. Will make my plants happy. We have a hamm Radio competition and pot luck dinner tonight. I was in charge of organizing the pot luck. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.
Oh wow!!! And yes! Please do not make it look new again!!! Great idea to seal in the original patina of the machine!!! I can’t wait for the video to see your Cub powering it and grinding the Danny corn 🌽!!! Ted
I would have to be taking pics with Wanda’s phone as you take each section apart so I would remember where everything goes. But seeing as you are mechanically inclined, I guess you don’t have to. Can’t wait to see it restored to original beauty.

❤ YEAH !! For keeping the antique look !
I love how you take us through this with you Mr Danny and Mz Wanda 💓
Wish i could tinker too!
I always like to tinker and fix, to bring the old to new or nothing to something.
Enjoy all that FUN!
Right where those plugs are is where the mill splits so you can expose the stones.
I have a WC Meadow mill. It has 20 inch stone burrs. I still grind meal occasionally.
I love your videos like this! So exciting to have an antique grist mill in such great shape! I can’t wait to see the dried Danny Corn get ground! 😊
Thanks for showing us
Never knew much about them.
Try to stay cool and take care !!!

Thanks for this video. Love y’all 🙏👍

Christmas came early for Danny 😄

Never seen one of these. Used to grind corn with a grinder that hooked up to a tractor. Neat stuff. Thanks
Happy for you and the mill. It's in good hands. I love antiques ❤
Glad you got that new toy. Look forward to seeing the restoration and using
Thank you both for sharing the inside workings of the mill. 😊 It's interesting to actually see how each piece fits & simply does its job.
I agree. Give it the maintenance it needs, but leave the old patina. It looks great in its work clothes : )
That is so neat. Looking forward to seeing you put it to work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I'm so happy for you. How exciting. Blessing to you both.
A good cleaning is all it needs. Air blow and go. Looks great as is!

I can’t wait to see you milling the corn.😊
Good choice!! ❤🙏🏻🇺🇸
Danny, I think they use beeswax on old bolts and nuts like that beeswax is best at last forever better than oil. Talk to you later.
Metcalf mills might know something, he likes mills
This is exciting, ❤ you guys!
Very interesting!
Live that mill, 22 years before I was born. Danny I have a hammer mill, I'll have to verify the brand but I think it's John Deere.
Wow that's my next purchase.
Can't wait to see the first grinding
Another great video thank you Danny and Wanda

I'm with you on that. The gap setting is something that interests me and how vertical stones can grind better than horizontal stones. Interesting design.
@@Aussiehomestead1965 My guess, would be that gravity helps get the corn into the gap and allows it to get out, before it gets ground too much.
