      Thanks mate. Yes I agree it is crazy now in hindsight but it was the support of the TH-cam gardening community (and also my family of course) who encouraged me to push on further and harder. @@Selfsufficientme Hello friend! I just want to thank you for not only the knowledge, but the companionship you have provided me through this pandemic.
      I live in Oklahoma and my husband is immunocompromised. We just RECENTLY got our vaccines though!

    Dead right with your seed usage. I was always too frugal with mine. Since harvesting my own seeds, I over sew and thin out. Works so much better than chasing the season when you don't get enough germinate. A tip that came from you. So cheers for that mate.

    You just don't know how your videos have helped me with overcoming my sadness and depression. I finally resort to planting and eventually become more resourceful. I am hoping that one day I can also grow a plant from a seed. I have started growing chilli, onion, and okra but none of them yet have grown. I hope it doesn't die on me. But anyways, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am learning a lot from you. Please keep the videos coming.

      EI I am so glad you are gardening and it is helping you in your tough times. Keep the faith. Don't give up! Even though it might be raining and storming in your life today, the sun WILL come out again.
      My okra didn't do well this year. I only got enough to use for seed next year. It happens. Just a bad year. But you can bet I will not give up! 🤠 I hope you, too, keep trying. All the best to you. 🦋

    chili peppers are named after the country of origin where they were first discovered by the Spanish in the early 1600s namely chile.
    the original Chilean wild peppers are small about the size and shape of a small cherry tomato they are very sweet and very hot if you go there you will see the native children eat them like candy, so heat in food really starts in the crib in chile!

      @gardengatesopen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Came here to say this too.
      Anaheim, the city in California, sounds like ana-rhyme.
      One more thing is kinda funny if you're interested in word spelling around the world.
      Here in the United States when the things you're planting are written in the plural form, it looks the same as what y'all in Australia have written on that plant tag = Chillies.
      But written in the singular form, only one L is used =
      Chili
      Why? Who knows?!!!
      The English language!
      It can be soooo confusing!!
      And WHY DO THEY call them Chillies anyway???!
      Maybe it's like when you name something the opposite of what it is? Just like when you have a very large friend called "Tiny Tim"?
      Tiny Tim...
      Does anybody remember Tiny Tim!?!
      Not sure what made me think of THAT person! I was only a kid when he had his 15 minutes of fame!
      What a weird blast from the past to jump into my brain!!
      And what does Tiny Tim have to do with Chillies anyway??!!!
      sheesh...

    Hi Mark - I'm a 'chilihead' so I'm SO jealous of your pepper planting! We are growing habanero, chocolate budlea, jalapeno, ornamental, etc. That pepper you asked about - it's named after Anaheim, CA - you pronounce it as Anna - hime (it rhymes with time)!

  • @SonniesPlace
    @SonniesPlace 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Anaheim (an + uh + hym) chiles do grow larger and are on the milder side. The have slightly more kick than bell peppers so they can still be used in salsas and are great cooked down with onions and garlic. The size and heat make them perfect for stuffing and are the go-to pepper for chiles rellenos. In America they are also knows as hatch peppers or New Mexico chiles which is actually where they originated from. They were brought to California in the late 1800s by the founder of the Ortega brand of Mexican products, Emilio Ortega.

    Hahah i love hearing you try and pronounce anaheim.. the OG disneyland is in Anaheim CA. Also you can make some great salsa using roasted anaheims with a couple jalapenos or serranos for heat, onion, garlic, salt, and vinegar. Super simple but really tasty and one of my favorites. You're correct that they should be a larger chili, I get them in the 8-12" range from the market fairly regularly.

  • @jimmydean7219
    @jimmydean7219 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep. Looks like a bird’s eye. Anaheims are much a much larger pepper with a flavor between a bell and a poblano. They do eventually ripen to red, but they’re about 8 times larger than that before they start to turn.

    Whiteflies- Try companion planting? There are many plants that repell pests too. Think 'mater, calendula or marigold, onion. Then do crop rotation, followed by every 7 th year letting the ground "rest"

    You’re correct in thinking that’s not an Anaheim (spoken; Anna hime, like Anna time). Anaheim’s are definitely larger (15-20cm) and green. They’re mild and a favorite for making the Mexican dish, chile relleno.

    The last part of 'anaheim' rhymes with 'time' or least it does in the Western US. Glad to see Aussie's aren't afraid to rock shorts above the knee. I get stares here in the US till I just say "rugby'.

    Anna-hime (long I)
    I live a few miles from there, the town is where Disneyland is.. in the 1950s, the area was all farms and citrus groves including pepper farms.
    Today its all city scape. Kinda sad but I guess thats southern california as a whole, great weather and fertile farm land brought people from all over the world to settle here.
