Seems Toyotaro took inspiration from the games. Bardock’s “saiyan spirit” ability took form into a plot point for the main Super storyline
Dude grew up with dragonball so it doesn’t surprise me. There wasn’t much lore on Bardock before the games anyway so it’s a solid starting point, especially considering most of the fan base will recognize it. Great decision tbh.
Didn't know that was Saiyan spirit because xenoverse 2 has 2 different versions and I haven't seen past game versions great to know

I've played Budokai Tenkaichi for over 10 years and it never occurred to me that's what it was
Dragonball has such massive potential. The series was incredible well before any Super Saiyans. I loved this part the most about the Granolah arc. These guys weren't even at 10,000
this fight prob pushed bardock's power level to near 10,000
hot take: the series would be way more interesting if everyone was around or lower than Namek saga strength (excluding frieza). a fight between a super saiyan and a fight between a fused super saiyan blue fundamentally look the same, but when you're at this kind of lower level the fights can get a lot more scrappy

I prefer this Bardock over the one we got in the special. Growing a conscious after years of conquering worlds vs growing one some time before his death. He might not have enjoyed killing, but he certainly enjoyed fighting and pushing his limits just like Goku.
I roll my eyes whenever someone mindlessly repeats DBZ Bardock > DBS Bardock without any reason. Sure DBZ Bardock is more cold but DBS Bardock is way better. It explains why Goku has a kind nature to him because Gine's kindness rubbed on to his father. This Bardock has way more character than the DBZ one.
@@dynaspinner64I can agree that DBS Bardock is > than DBZ Bardock, but I hate the idea that Goku is good because Bardock is good. Goku was very aggressive as a child until the brain damage. Saiyans are naturally aggressive, Goku is kind because he grew up around good humans which were less aggressive than saiyans.

@ellisfrancisfarros3935 Nope, Goku getting his kind nature from Bardock was bad plothole writing. Vegeta knew Goku hit his head, and his bad Saiyan memories were erased. Why he said that was stupid. Also, Bardock only got soft later in his life. It's not like he was born a kind Saiyan. Super has a bad habit of creating plothole retcons, and this was one of them.

No, not even close. It was just a minor zenkai. Probably no more than a couple hundred to maybe 1000 increase to his power level but still just enough to tip the scales.

Is this the first canonical appearance of faux super saiyan? Every time it appeared before (in the Lord Slug movie and later in the Pikkon filler in Z) it wasn’t canon. But it’s not confirmed here either, except for the fact that Gas says ‘impossible, you have no ascended forms past Ape’, which indicates Bardock DID achieve something higher. Honestly this would pave the way for Goku’s ascension better than anything.
