      That distance is what a person with a normal visual acuity could see those corresponding letters from. For example a person with normal acuity could see the letters well on the 5th row from 20ft(6m).

      20 feet is the focal point for distance if the test is done closer the distance results will be incorrect if the test room is not large enough a reversed Snellen chart should be used viewed through a Ophthalmic Viewing Mirror with the distance from the patients eyes to the mirror added to the reflected distance to the chart both distances added together should equal 20 foot

    I can't see the letter E from 20 or 10 feet away with or without prescription eye glasses.
    I can see the letter E from 5 feet away with or without prescription eye glasses.
    My left eye is 100% blind, from a gun shot wound.
    My right eye can see the letters on the Snellen chart from 5 feet away with or without prescription eye glasses.
    Am I legally blind, if I can't see or read the letter E on the Snellen chart from 20 or 10 feet away, with or without prescription eye glasses?

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Visual acuity less than 20/200 is considered legally blind, but to actually fit the definition, the person must not be able to attain 20/200 vision even with prescription eyewear. Many people who would be legally blind without eyewear can function well in everyday life with appropriate glasses or contact lenses. Every optometrist has an eye chart with a big, "E", on top. Just for once, I would like to have my eyes examined by a doctor who has, "biggies", on the top of his eye chart. Just a nice pair, and I would prefer them in artistic relief, like sticking out from the wall, not just a picture. And, they would have to be pert, not like, "National Geographic", biggies, as they would hang down so low, that they would block any reading of the lines of letters below them. IMHO, any optometrist who would use such a chart must be declared to be incompetent because it would be likely, eventually, that they would misdiagnose a Chinese lady as having a cataract, when she really owns a Rinkon Contenento.

      @@NurseMinder "what others can see" that is totally ambiguous and incorrect, 20/20 means to see letters of 20 points high from 20 feet away = 20 feet / 20 point size letters. >> 20 feet / 7.05 millimeters >>>> 20 feet / 0.277 inches. the 20 points were later changed to a subtended 5 minute of arch ratio. Which is no longer a real 20/20 but >> 20 feet / 0.349 inches or 20 feet / 8.85 millimeters.
