It was a great idea to introduce some context around this song first. Most of Mastodon's early albums are concept albums whose lyrics and tone/ambience don't click as much without context. I think Mastodon is most known for the sludgy sound you hear on Oblivion, but they have a slew of thrashy/prog masterpieces under their belt too. For something faster-paced, try "The Wolf is Loose" from the album "Blood Mountain." That album's story is about a guy who travels to the top of dangerous mountain in search of forbidden treasure and the psychedelic nightmares encountered along the way. A similar track would be "Megalodon" from the album "Leviathan," which is a concept album about Moby Dick and sort of Norse mythology. Megalodon combines Mastodon's love for dissonance, thrash, distortion, with a twinge of bluegrass. You could basically cover most songs from Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and Crack the Skye and not go wrong though!
Wow! Glad you gave the background of the band. I had skipped this one until now when i have gone back through. I am so glad I didn't skip it! Hopefully he will be able to help others through his music and showing how he got his life back on track!
Mastodon - Capillarian Crest is one of my favorites. It just has a lot of proggyness and crazyness to it (that i miss a bit on newer albums). Other great songs: Thickening, High Road, Blood and Thunder, Steambreather, March of the Fire Ants.
My favorite band right now. All their albums are very good, great or phenomenal like Crack the Skye. Check out their songs Hearts Alive, The Sparrow and Sleeping Giant.
I got to see them play this whole album live it was sick
7:05 music starts

That chorus gives me chills.
Possibly the best prog metal album of all time. It’s my #1 for sure. Close 2nd is tool - lateralus

Great reaction for a fantastic album by my favorite band. Nice commentary, too.
Their first five albums are something else.
Brilliant reaction and the introduction definitely sets the tone. The Wolf is Loose would definitely be a great on due to the energy or I Am Ahab too
March of the fire ants and Mother Puncher 🏋️
Do the Last Baron from the same album.
The Czar as well… shit, do their entire catalog
Also, the guy, brent i think, singing the chorus, reminds me of Zakk Wylde
Please do I'm not ready to die by avenged sevenfold. It's a banger
