The town center of La Rochelle has a marketplace dating from the late 19th century. With a daily market and all sorts of produce, meats and cheeses, shopping here is a beloved town tradition.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays, this marketplace opens up into two side streets with vendors travelling from surrounding areas, selling a number of other specialized products, such as clothes, utensils and now even discarded Amazon packages at "Les Colis Perdus", available for purchase according to their weight. It's the new fad these days apparently!
Join me on a simple walkthrough as I peruse the different stands, the variety of items for sale and the ambiance of the Saturday market.
If you visit La Rochelle, regardless of the time of year, make sure to put "Le Marché des Halles" on your list. It's open from sunrise to around 1 PM daily, located about 1/4 mile from the main harbor.
