I live in St. Andrew Jamaica and as a child my father planted it, they hung on the vine like big pumpkins. He would cut off the top and pour condensed milk in it mix and served with cracks of ice in a glass, it was lovely and was a regular Sunday evening treat. I have been trying to find it for years now I am happy to know that it is still in Jamaica 🇯🇲. I would like to have a plant to share and enjoy with my family and friends ❤. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊

This is so amazing because I never know that this unique , exotic fruit was still in existence , so it brought back memories , because as a kid growing up in the fifties there was this plant running on this vine making a bed on the cocoa and the coffee trees with these succulent fruit smelling so good . , My mother use to mix the pulp with milk and people always come and pick them on Sundays maybe to make drink but since the plant died I never seen it anywhere else, not even in the markets.

I became familiar with the fruit in 1968, a neighbor gave it to my mom who was told to add Condensed milk and cool it before eating.
Some years later, I peeled off the outer skin, diced the flesh and stewed🍲 it with Natural Seasoning and Saltfish (Codfish).

I grew up in Golden Springs, St. Andrew, Jamaica in the 70’s and had several Granadilla vines in our back yard. My Grandmother used to make ice cream with it during season on Sunday’s. It was a regular Sunday tradition for us at our home. It made a nice juice as well.
To be honest with you though, I have not seen it much in Jamaica over the recent years. My Grandmother was from Above Rocks, St. Andrew, and knew of the fruit from there, so it probably goes back 60-100 years. These regions of Jamaica have a nice cooler temperature, with rolling hills, like the Castleton area.

It is actually from the Sweet cup family of Passion fruit, but is called Granadilla even in Jamaica. Same seed and taste composition, with a much larger fruit.

I was just researching the passiflora thats y i wanted to see if it's in Jamaica, if it's d same passiflora i think they use the flowers r leaves, scientifical research states that its used for menopausal symptoms, anti-cancer, anxiety, sleep deprivation, depression, etc. I.m about to try the medicine derived from it from the health store.
