Never forget that the Pygmy hippo is endangered and as cute as Moo Deng is we should all collectively be more concerned with her wild brothers and sisters and their conservation and protection against the threat of habitat loss and poaching.
Her brother Moo Toon (Jona and Tony) and her half-sister Moo Krob (Jona and Rebbo who passed away) married hippos from other Thai zoos this past week. The ceremony is adorable and very official. Very similar to Thai human citizens marrying.
The ceremony is on YT and is adorable. I love Thai people and their traditions. Everyone was dressed up (at least one was a hippo) as plush creatures and others in Thai ceremonial garb. The groom’s zoo offers a dowry to the bride’s zoo as proof he can provide for her. Moo Krob (KKZ) married Kanoon from Chiang Mai zoo, and they will live at Korat zoo. It’s such a loss for KKZ, though! Moo Toon (KKZ) married Manao from Korat zoo and they will live at KKZ in Moo Krob’s old pond and enclosure. Poor Chiang Mai zoo lost a hippo and didn’t gain a couple, but I’m sure they will soon.
I can’t wait for people to visit this hippo as an adult thinking she’s still cute and cuddly but realize they made a bad mistake as they find themselves being swallowed whole!
