Quick question if you guys get time. So I put a bunch of dried fall maple leaves in my tank to let the crabs know hey it's fall time lol, I already had a couple molters but then everyone disappeared, out of 8 I have 2 not burried, conditions in the tanks are optimal, I just had a molt fest when I got everyone, is it possible they are all molting again? Or did the fall leaves trigger a burying response 😭
Hello! The chances are high that your crabby friends are simply molting again! When they are kept in great conditions like your friends are, crabs (especially the little guys) tend to molt quite often! This is healthy behavior! They are growing fast and that is good!

Hi lovely ladies, I have a quick question. Every time I put natural wood in my tank it molds within a weeks time, I bake it at 250 for 3 hours then stick it in the freezer or vice versa, if I don't have time to bake right away I'll freeze it until I do. Wood they love, maple and oak branches I like to have alot of natural wood, they also have Choya and cork bark from pet store that has lasted a while with no mold, is there something I'm doing wrong? Humidity is always 80 on the low 85 on the high
hi Abby, mold can be tricky and It sounds to me like you are doing everything correct. Some woods simply mold easier than others and we have just as difficult a time with it. Perhaps wash the wood in prime treated water prior to baking it and maybe rinse it off once every few weeks during tank maintenance. I wish we had a better answer for you... so sorry!
@@CrabCentralStation it's so weird right, like I order the Indian almond leaves from Amazon and they have yet to sprout mold, but I'll boil and freeze oak or maple leaves and put em in the tank, mold in a weeks time.
Hey I have a question I'm wondering if my crabs have mites, we saw little white bugs all over the wood and some in the food, we took all the stuff with them out so I'm wondering if they are harmful and if I have to start my tank all over?

Hi so one of my crabs recently lost both his front claws and he’s the smallest hermit crab in a tank of four and one of the bigger crabs keeps pulling him out of his shell. Is there anything I can do about this?
This is aggressive behavior. Since it doesn't seem like it would be related to shell size, I'm guessing it is related to a lack of protein in their diet. Other reasons for aggression include; lack of shells in the proper size and shape, too many crabs in the tank, lack of space, lack of nutrition.
I made my own mix With chia seeds, Oats, Shrimp from a pellet food, Mixed it all up and I haven't fed it to my crabs yet because I want you to approve it, is it good enough?
Just to clarify, you took dehydrated shrimp out of a pellet food mix and added it to your created mix? Or, you are using a shrimp pellet food that you put in with your ou created mix? If it is pellets, I would exchange them for baby dried river shrimp. Much better for them, no chemicals or preservatives, and the exo on the shrimp is good for them too.
Hi!! My hermit crab is pre molting. Started last night. He was paralyzed and still in his shell. Than today, he left his shell he kept looking for a shell but did not find one so he's been without a shell. Than he went into his pool and he got paralyzed again!! I did not know what to do so I gently got him out with a spoon, and he is still paralyzed. I know he's alive because I see his antennas twitching from time to time. Should I have let him stay in the pool of water? Now I'm worried he will dry out because he has no shell and cant move! Please help!
Hello! So sorry to hear this! We are hoping he found shell. If not, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/yrdxXMBBsb8/w-d-xo.html on our channel for more help!
Something you forgot to do is wear rubber gloves when you where cutting the jalapeno, when we cut jalapenos at work we wear rubber gloves to cut them up.
Hey y’all, not related to the video, but this has been on my mind lately. So I’m about to get hermit crabs, Abe I get that they need humidity. But completely covering up their tank from any air holes seems dangerous. How do they have oxygen to breathe? Thanks
Great question! Hermit crabs have modified gills. They don't breathe oxygen the way we do. They breathe the water (or humidity) in the air. Without humidity they are slowly suffocating. When you open your tank to feed, change the water, do maintenance.... enough oxygen exchange is made at that time. If you add bubblers to your pools, fresh air is constantly being pumped in and you get the added benefits of extra humidity, cleaner water for a longer period of time, and happy hermits (they love bubbly pools)! Hope this helps!
@@CrabCentralStation dang y’all fast at responding. Thanks! I guess a follow up question would be how much time does opening the tank allow for them to have plenty of oxygen. Like if I open the tank to put food in there does that give them like 10 hours of enough oxygen?
You should be changing out water every 48 hours and food about the same as well. That is enough oxygen exchange for them. I promise... have you seen our tanks? We have 45 happy, healthy hermies that are thriving and breeding. The sealed tank is crucial for their survival.
I idk wat to do bc one of my hermit crab pasted away but I got another one and the new one is in quarantine Rn and mine that did not pass is not eating what should I do
So sorry to hear about your late hermit crab. We suggest offering tons of high protein foods to your sick crab! Watch our food video for help with identifying good food sources!
Are you open to adopting new crabs. I am have 4 crabs and a 20 gallon tank (temporarily until I my 46 is not being used anymore) I got them when I was younger from a beach store 🤦♀️ I am hoping to rehome them to people that will give them the best life they can have ❤️
Hi! We are not currently adopting but if you search "land hermit crab owners society adoption" we can guarantee your crabbies will be placed in a safe home!
So if I go to my local Supermarket and buy shrimp can I come home and just give it to them? Or is there something I should do? Do I have to cook it first?
Yes, all shell fish must be fully cooked before giving it to the crabs. Shell fish carry bacteria that can cause shell rot in hermit crab exoskeleton and the crabs can spread it to the rest of your colony.
Hey, another question! I watched heat and humidity your clip, but some reason I could not hear what temp range should be at the tank (maybe I was wrong...) , could you tell me again if you don't mind? Also during my sleep time, is it ok if the tank is completely dark or needs night blue? light?? Many thanks!!!!!!
My crabs don’t seem to enjoy food that we buy for them from the store, honestly they would rather eat river shrimp and veggies. Is this ok? Do they need anything specific from the store bought food that I can’t provide some other way?

@@CrabCentralStation haha with my crabs 4 Bettas all in separate tanks and 2 Fantail Goldfish I'm pretty much always at a tank, at least that's what my family says🤷
Almost every type of shrimp I find has salt added even the " fresh from the deli" . I asked them why they put salt in them & supposedly most seafood is packed in a salt brine before it gets to market? Finally, they got some wild-caught & there was no salt added. Anyways I'm just finding out that the salted ones are a No No..I had no idea & I'm sure many other people don't realize this..
I have a question I ordered crabs from online and when they came in I immediately put them in saltwater then I put them in my tank did I make a good deduction by Putting them in the tank immediately
I hope you can help me, I have 2 crabs, one of them has just molted, it was strange he wasn't under the substrate. I actually thought he had died, pretty much all of him was out of his shell. My husband removed the body, but when he looked in the shell it looks like a new body, there is no smell. My problem is my other crab is much bigger and he keeps trying to dig up the one that has just molted any thoughts?
Hi Anna! This is a crabby emergency! Your friend has surface molted. Place your crab in an isolation tank (two inches of sand, proper heat and humidity, food, water) with the exoskeleton that he shed (he needs to eat it for calcium, however if you threw it away that is ok.) Do not let your other crab disturb the surface molted crab ( this is why we suggest isolation in a separate tank)
Please help!!!!! My new tank has a lot of condensation. Is that good? Bad? What do I do??? What am I doing wrong? I live in Miami in an apartment and I must have the ac on 74 or else I’ll sweat to death… I even put the tank on the floor in the corner, away from the ac vent. It’s still condensed. What do I do? I don’t want them to die.
The strawberries are 24 hours, they just mold so quickly. The veggie kabob will last two days. The tamale will be okay in your tank for a couple days too...but because of the shrimp it may be a little stinky. As with all fresh foods, check for mold and remove. If your crabs love it as much as ours it will be gone over night!
Oh dear! We once had an ant infestation as well! It is THE WORST! Unfortunately that calls for a total tank cleanup. Remove the crabs that are on the surface of the tank and try to wait out any crabs you have molting. Then remove all of the things you have in your tank, and rinse them in prime treated water/freeze them/bake them (according to what they are.) Then, remove all of the substrate and THROW IT OUT :(. Next, make a water and vinegar solution and clean out the tank really well. Finally, replace the tank with new substrate, all of your extra things, and your crabs.
Thank you so much for the reply. I have 2 molting and I am so worried about them. I did remove everything else from the tank and my 1 crab that was on the surface. I left 1 plant so hopefully the other 2 will feel safe enough to come up where I can get them once they are done molting. I appreciate your reply so much!!

The range should be between 75-85%. For light, it’s best to be completely dark, no blue light. Hope this helps!
@@CrabCentralStation 75-85% means °F right?
Hey! One question! I have setup pools but do I need to setup drinking waters separately? Many thanks!!
You do not need to set up separate drinking and swimming pools! They will swim and drink form the same waters.
@@CrabCentralStation Awesome thank you! My two hermies dived into deep sand under for a while..... Hopefully they are OK...
My crabs don’t seem to enjoy food that we buy for them from the store, honestly they would rather eat river shrimp and veggies. Is this ok? Do they need anything specific from the store bought food that I can’t provide some other way?
What kind of food are you buying from the store?
@@CrabCentralStation Fluker's Premium Pellet Diet. I crush it for them but they just aren’t into it
I know you ladies are busy but I made a little video of my crabitat and would upload it if you get time to check it out. Everything I did was all inspiration of course from watching all your videos and I'd really love for you to see how you've helped and inspired me, I don't have Instagram or any other social medias or I would just send you pictures lol, I will tittle it my crabitat video for crab central station
Where do we go to see it?
@@CrabCentralStation Thank you for replying but I took that Tat down a couple weeks ago, and the video and redid everything in to one 75g long❤️
Oh wow! You've been busy!
@@CrabCentralStation haha with my crabs 4 Bettas all in separate tanks and 2 Fantail Goldfish I'm pretty much always at a tank, at least that's what my family says🤷
Should I use a coconut Hut in my hermit crab tank?
yes! just watch for mold!
This is so true! We always have to ask the counter workers whether they are salt brined and usually the answer is yes!
What salinity level do you keep the saltwater tanks at?
Between 33 ppt and 35 ppt
@@CrabCentralStation Thank you so much!!!!
I have a question I ordered crabs from online and when they came in I immediately put them in saltwater then I put them in my tank did I make a good deduction by Putting them in the tank immediately
We recommend doing the PPDS method prior to placing them in the tank. There is a video on our channel about this.
@@CrabCentralStation thanks
What about the seeds in the cucumber? Are they safe for the hermis?
Yep, those are fine 🙂
We you those skewers at work for sandwiches and other things
They work great!
Why can't the crabs have the peels?
Do we clean frozen vegetables also in prime treated water?
All human fruits and veggies should be rinsed in prime water because of pesticides.
Hello! Try to ventilate the tank by lifting your lid a tiny crack.
I have tried many fresh fruits and veggies my crabs are not even interested in them. They like the meal in ones I got them and moss but not much else.
Best thing to do is keep offering small amounts in a lot of variety. They will come around.
How many days can I keep this in my tank for?
I’d only keep it in there for about 12 hours but at most 24
The strawberries are 24 hours, they just mold so quickly. The veggie kabob will last two days. The tamale will be okay in your tank for a couple days too...but because of the shrimp it may be a little stinky. As with all fresh foods, check for mold and remove. If your crabs love it as much as ours it will be gone over night!
@@CrabCentralStation Ok thank you!!! They already started eating it and LOVE it!
My hermit crab is out of its shell and hasn’t been moving for awhile and he doesn’t stink what sign is that?
He might be molting without a shell! This is an emergency. Join the LHCOS on Facebook and they will help you!
I have a question. I have 3 small crabs in a 20 gallon long tank and I have ANTS!!! What do I do!?? HELP PLEASE!
Dehydrate and grate, home made premium dry food.
Do I have to clean frozen fruit and vegetables
I recommend washing fresh fruit and veggies but frozen doesn’t need to be washed
Do you need to cook meats, poultry and fish before giving it to hermit crabs?
Shell fish needs to be cooked first. Other protein can be fed raw or cooked.
My hermit crab is molting on the surface what do I do
Please message in the LHCOS gourd on Facebook! This is an emergency and they will help you!
How does you get your hermint card so red
We have 6 different species of hermit crabs. A good healthy diet and foraging foods will help enhance their color too.

i was expecting to eat a hermit crab, bruv
Wrong channel for that.
You have so many knives. Why not just use 1 for everything?
I don’t know…. Seemed like a good idea at the time?
I feel like this whole process is for the human and not the crab.
Yes the hermit crabs like poop, mine poop in all of there feed dishes and every where eles.
Hahaha, ours do to!
I was hoping she'd cook the crab
