Elk Rut and Bugling!

While not a bird video as this channel features, this spectacle of nature was too good not to share! It was truly special to be able to witness these animals and I hope you enjoy it too.
The "rut" is the term used to describe the mating season of deer, elk and moose. During this time the elk come to lower elevations and are more easily seen. The males give their distinctive bugling call to attract a female or to communicate with the herd. Males will sometimes be seen sparing with each other for dominance.

Majestic animals. Stunning herd 😮 !. Is this the correspondant of our European Hart ?. We also call it "le rut du Cerf". Here it makes a very deep sound of calls.

It seems very likely they are related, at least having a common ancestor. Our Elk are a lot bigger. The Roosevelt elk that we have in my area and larger than the Rocky Mountain elk in this video. A bull Roosevelt can get 3m tall and weigh up to 500kg. On my channel I have a video of two bulls practicing their sparring. It was prior to rut so it was wasn't serious yet. We are now to the time you want to be very careful and make sure they are infant of you. Don't let them get behind you and don't get between a cow and a bull. @@dianestiner8602
