Being a former MQM supporter, and currently apolitical, my opinion is MQM needs to prove itself again to regain what it lost. The communication disconnect, public disconnection, and disorganisation that started gradually after 2007-2008, and maintained by MQMP and PSP, needs to controlled. And social media engagement needs to start. One thing I find positive about people like Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar and even Hafiz NaeemUrRehman of JI, is the willingness and openness to talk about issues without making it too much political point scoring game. The way these three have openly talked in podcasts and webshows like this one, Pakistan Experience and To Be Honest (TBH), I doubt that any other political leaders can do that. Unki to akar hee khatam nahi hoteen podcasts main aa bhi jayain to.
MQM lost something that was very powerful, authority in the hands of the educated young people, empowered educated students from studious backgrounds, they gave guns to less educated(and unfortunately under privileged) children who got this "power" up in their heads, then these people started to harass and extort their own people, their own brethren, and all of it happened because we the Muhajirs got lax, we stopped going out of our way to find our rights and our lifestyle like the way we used to when we were a minority being pushed into a wall. All MQM needs to do is to make peace with all communities of Karachi, and appease their former vote bank(Muhajirs) by any means necessary through promoting financed higher education, only giving seats to those that are hughly educated and weed out all the useless goons from positions of any sort of authority.

Mustafa Kamala is missing a key component here. It was Altaf Bhai who gave him the opportunity and also the backing power that allowed him to accomplish what he did. So where he talks about his accomplishments, there is always an element of Altaf Bhai in it. :)
