Hello teacher. I have a question because as foreign I am, I am a little confused: Just yesterday I discovered about "Sequence of tenses". So, is there any serious difference with reported speech? Because in some points they look alike. Also: Is there any differecne between "inverted conditionals and inversion conditionals? Is it easy for you to answer me please? Have a good weekend!!!!!
They do look somewhat alike but are used in different ways. This is a good explanation about sequence of tenses from Grammarly.com: Not correct-The cat was bathing because his feet are dirty. (‘was’ and ‘are’ are in different tenses) Not correct-The cat was bathing because his feet will be dirty. (‘was’ and ‘will be’ are in different tenses) Correct-The cat was bathing because his feet were dirty. Indirect speech or Reported speech is used when acting like a “news reporter”. direct speech: 'I worked as a waiter before becoming a chef,' he said. indirect speech: He said he'd worked as a waiter before becoming a chef. Here is a website that might help explain about the inverted/inversion conditionals: www.englishgrammar.org/inversion-conditional-clauses/ I hope this helps.
I have over 50 videos about how to write an essay that you might want to check out. You can find a playlist on the channel page to see what kind of topics are available. I hope you find them helpful!
