I have great respect for both Gough and Bob, Gough especially, but in my mind, Keating is the greatest Labor figure since Chifley.

This is great. I live in Melbourne. I didn't hear about this. I wish I was there, I assume it took place in April or May 2013 going by the date it was posted here.

Yes he also demolished Hawke and put Labou into opposition for 3 terms. Lied about the GST to beat hewson. Placed australia into massive recession. Dim wits who vote on popularity are of low intelligence.

He demolished Hawke and saved Labor from defeat at the next election. Labor then went into opposition for four terms, not three. The recession was aimed at, and achieved, stopping the inflation that crippled the country since the 1970s. He never aimed for popularity - he led the electorate rather than pandered to it, and did the heavy lifiting that neither Hawke nor Howard were ever capable of nor had the ticker to do.

And it was Howard who lied about the GST, not Keating. The reason Tony Abbott is PM today is that people like you have as much say at the ballot box as someone who actually has a clue.

Paul Keating was the driver in the Hawke Keating government. Hawke was a showboater. The demise of Hawke is very little loss to humanity.
