Libyan desert glass is a variety of impact glass (tectite) that is found in Egypt near the Libyan border. This beautiful, highly silicified natural glass is a wonder of our world. People have gone nuts over moldavite but I'll be upfront, I prefer the desert glass.

I actually just purchased a piece. Haven’t gotten it yet but can’t wait! I love anything meteoric
I still think it's cool how nature basically made glass before we even knew how. Nature is better at inventing stuff then us!
hahahaha good point!
@@mooneyfinemineralI love this glass and this series. I always learn something new.
Great job! Thanks for posting ❤
Cheers! Glad you liked it!
Stunning never heard of it before.
It's a fun one!!!
That is all so cool looking!
😍😍😍
Such a cool history 😮
I love it!
I see you did your homework and included information about the Libyan Desert Glass scarab found in King Tut’s tomb! I have a couple of small pieces and they are very tactile as well as beautiful. For fun, look up Native American meteorite beads.
Nice
Sooo Pretty🩵🩵🩵
They say it doesn't match other impact glass characteristics. And legend says it was from an ancient weapon of atomic strength!
Some people say that but it's not founded at the end of the day. It has the markers of impact glass at the end of the day. Fun to think about, though!
😮
:D
Do you have any of this available in your online shop? I've always wanted a specimen!
Nope! I don't even have a specimen for myself. I don't have a good supplier for it so I rely on shows and sadly there's always more money to spend on other things :(
@@mooneyfinemineral totally understandable! Please update us if you ever get some! 😁🖖
@@misfitGazelle I might have a source for jewelry made out of it now but getting the rough pieces has proven difficult T.T
So...I DO have some for sale in my shop now 😄. Got two pieces left, I'll also be sending out small pieces for the June Mineral of the Month Club if there isn't an issue between now and then!
@@mooneyfinemineral YEEESSSS!! Just bought one! You're one of the only shops I'd trust buying a genuine specimen from 💜
