  • This is Emily, she's been learning to drive for around 2 months. she's done 25hours of driving so far, she's got a test booked in a weeks time.
    Emily generally drives really well, but sometimes when she thinks she's made a mistake. She starts to overthink about her driving which sometimes results in her actually making a bigger fault.
    In this mock test we cover major crossroad with slips roads and roundabouts.

    First and last five minutes are key times on test. Start a little cautiously for one or two junctions, then get your normal game going. When you think you are near the end, get your concentration going and buck up as people tend to slack off thinking it's all in the bag or gone to pot.

    To be honest Emily seems to be a very good driver. Watching this made me remembered exactly what my instructor told me few hours ago, that when you think you made a mistake, just let it go and concentrate because when the mind concentration on the initial mistake, it builds up. This video came to me the right time. Thank you.

    At 32:00 she describes how she felt about the test which was after the first minor mistake near the start she kind of lost heart. After 28 minutes or three quarters of the way through a driving test she makes a serious error that would cause a fail. 28:35 she passes across an exit signalling left but does not exit there (serious fault). Within about one minute she wants to start on a red traffic light, serious fault 29:45. Another near serious fault follow immediately. . Her main problem is that as soon as she makes a mistake she continues with an analysis of it in her head. This is when you are not thinking about what's happening now and what's coming up next. If you realise you made a mistake on test, forget the incident it may be marked minor.

    I lost count of the number of my students who failed a mock test and passed the real one with flying colours. Mock tests are really useful for giving learners a 'feel' for the real thing, and because they're nervous about a novel experience, it's perfectly normal to mess things up first time round. The DSA (DVSA?) can say what they like: we all know nerves play a part on the day, and it's always best to get the bugs out of the system beforehand. I'm sure Emily will do just fine, and very best of luck to her.

    • @Sufficient4UsIsAllah

      Stick to it, don’t give up! :)

  • @john1703

    I was taught that when stationary the gearbox should be in neutral and the handbrake engaged. Sitting with feet on brakes and clutch, might result in jumping forward if you were rear-ended. You should avoid stopping abreast of a large parked vehicle, since it partially blocks the road. Should you be signalling left whilst stationary in a left turn only lane? If you think that you might be hit by a truck, let it go, else you will come off worst. Shut up and concentrate on the road! With that opportunity, I would pull forward into the next parking space, since it saves reversing out later.

  • @leme3503
    @leme3503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I don't get how some faults are only counted as serious when other people are around (like the signaling when moving around an obstacle at junctions, or the stopping for a traffic light that's not for you). To me, it would be much more logical if the fault is serious or not depending on the implications it _could_ have, rather then the ones it has in the current situation. I mean, you wouldn't not count driving through red as a serious fault purely 'cause nobody was affected by it, right? So why do these certain ones depend on if it currently had an effect on others?

      @keith6400 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whenever you turn at a traffic light controlled junction there will be a set "for the other group/s of traffic" around the corner. Whenever you see traffic lights you do need to look for stop lines relevant to that light. The most difficult lights to sort out are a huge roundabouts where lights are placed at extremely random places and all traffic is going a bit faster.

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most new cars when you stall the engine, pressing the clutch down will restart it straight away
      As a good habit when you stall, press brake and clutch and then try moving off normally again
      You don’t need to apply the handbrake (this is what they used to teach years back) it’s not necessary anymore
      Hope this helps

  • @jassenjj
    @jassenjj 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 15:20 when Emily stalled the engine I was surprised that it could actually be considered a major fault. In my country instructors always keep repeating that stalling the engine is not counted during the test... Well, except for one unlucky girl from my group of people for the test who stalled the engine 6 times in a row because at the very beginning of her test she had to exit a parking with just a slightly uphill exit.

    • @Jac70
      @Jac70 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Stalling isn't an issue. The fault would be causing another driver to change speed or direction which can be considered a serious fault. It would be very harsh in this situation though IMO. First, whoever beeped was an idiot! Beeping a learner for pulling away a little bit slow!? Plus she recovered almost instantly.

    If the green light is not for you, who is it for at 9:30 in this video? I am not from uk but just asking from curiosity.

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The red light at 9:40 if for the traffic on our right 9:20
      So it’s just a repeat traffic lights for the vehicle on the distance to be able to see ahead
      So usually with traffic lights junctions
      There’s a traffic light on the left as you stop and sometimes one on the right also
      The repeat traffic lights is places slightly further ahead just after the junction so it’s visible from the distance
      You can see the repeat traffic lights while we are waiting at 9:15 in the distance (centre of the screen)

      @@ClearviewDriving ohh exactly, I thought that the fault was that she was driving on green lights. But the fault was when she stopped to red lights(which she shouldn’t have done). Thank you for the response!

    Is it wrong to signal first than check mirrors? I usually do that

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should always use mirrors and signal accordingly
      You will get marked down for this if someone is affected with your signal (if a cyclist or motorbike is overtaking and you signal and don’t check first)

    12:17 why this car is rolling back when its in first gear????
    Same happened at 12:35 first gear yet call is rolling back?

    • @jassenjj
      @jassenjj 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The road is slightly uphill and the car doesn't have hill assist or the angle is very small for it to engage. Either case, when you release the brakes and the engine is not engaged either by being on neutral or having the clutch pressed, you should always expect the car to start moving if the road is not flat.

    Accroding to DVLA advice, learner drivers should take 45 hours of lessons plus 20 private lessons, why people attempt to take a driving test after 10 or 20 lessons???? Surely, a chance of fail is higher...you will more likely fail..driving is a skill...it won't come quick..

    34:14 is it just me who doesn’t think it’s worth telling a learner driver that it was a ‘good drive’ when they failed? Even if they did, is that really gonna make them feel any better about it? Bottom line is, it wasn’t enough was it? I’m saying this having had that said to me by an examiner before, so it’s myself I’m being rash towards not anybody else. I know how it feels - I actually thought being told that it was a ‘good drive’ when I’d failed because of ONE mistake (which in my case was partly similar to the first major fault in this video) made it feel 100 times worse. I’m absolutely rubbish at driving and I don’t think I’ll ever pass. Yeah my instructor thinks I’m good enough but it’s been proven on THREE occasions that I can’t do it because I can’t perform when it matters. I’d rather save tests for people who deserve them (e.g. not me) cuz for me to take one right now would be a waste of a test.
