    Last year I got $400 though Amex offers on Amazon. This year I broke a 90 days old iPad Pro and the replacement cost was $700 - Amex purchase protection quickly reimbursed me. The Hilton and Marriot status it gives you also allows to status match with a bunch of different brands through a chain reaction. It's a bit of work but it's another way to finesse the system and make the card even more worth it if you're willing to make a few emails or calls to status match!

    With my Amex Platinum I learned to NOT purchase anything from Saks.com on December 30, 31 or June 29, 30, etc. as the purchases may take a day or two to show on my statements. It’s all dependent on when Saks ships the item. So my learning is to use your $50 credit way earlier than the 6 month term.

    I Love the Uber credits as I would use them anyway, same with airline credit saks, etc. I do use the card for all airline purchases and some hotels (depending, if its FHC, then yes). Everyone's situation is different but those are the main reasons I use the card. Lounges are ok, but still way to crowded in the US, sometimes I leave due to the fact it's more crowded in the lounges than other places.

  • @mitsu.hadeishi
    @mitsu.hadeishi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I use my Platinum card for exactly the same things -- expensive items I want insurance on -- the purchase protection benefit is better than the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Also lounge access, restaurant reservations (the concierge got us prime reservations at a very popular restaurant in Vegas), and return protection.
    But I also really like the Global Assist capabilities -- medical evacuation benefits even if you don't use the card to buy the plane tickets!
    But it doesn't have as good trip delay, trip interruption, or baggage delay coverage as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, so I don't use it for plane travel either.
    I also prefer Chase points to Amex points because Chase points can transfer to Hyatt which can get you some ridiculous multipliers (I just booked a hotel at a 4x multiplier -- I've seen one Japanese hotel give a 10x multiplier on a reservation!)

      Depends heavily on where you live, how often you fly, and how much you make.
      1) Making a minimum $55k per year helps a lot.
      2) Living in a coastal USA region with Uber service.
      3) Routinely flying roundtrip twice a year or more.
      4) Fly roundtrip internationally at least once every other year.
      5) Use Amex offers for routine spending.

    I actually like the Saks credit. Saks is just overpriced in general. I don't use uber at all (i'd have to force it). I'm going to fly delta (and use the credit) for all flights within the U.S. I never pay the annual fee in one lump sum I run multiple bank accounts for different things. By the time the platinum wants their annual fee it is already accumulated in my annual fees account. I may not use 100% of everything the card offers but I haven't found a card yet where i'm able to do that.

    - $200 Uber credit gets used to 100% because I live and work near Uber's headquarters.
    -$200 airfare credit gets used to 100% for either gift cards, luggage fees, or taxes on international flights.

    Nice video, the purchase protection, return protection, and 2 years extended warranty seem pretty awesome.
    I just realized that this set of perks on purchases makes my best card for buying large ticket items probably the Amex Gold Business card... I picked up that card off a referral for a 50k point signup bonus, so have been using the card for 4x points on gas and shipping, but that card also has a 4x category for computers equipment and software vendors, including purchases at apple, dell, and newegg. Just looked at the benefits and the Gold business card also includes the same purchase benefits as the platinum I believe, so I think the ability to earn 4x at say newegg or dell for large purchases (which include a wide range of products apart from computers) makes it possibly the best card for large purchases.
    The $295 annual fee with no credits does make the Gold Business card more difficult to justify as a keeper after the first year unless you spend alot on shipping costs or advertisements, but given that the card also earns 20k points per referral (vs. 10k points on most other amex cards) I feel like its not hard to recoup the annual fees but using is as your first option for referral bonuses... For example, this year I already got 2 referral bonuses for an extra 40k amex points. I think my plan will be to actually switch to using the Amex Business Gold primarily for 4x on gas and computer vendors and to always try to buy any large purchases on Newegg using the card.

    • @szearc
      @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know you don’t use it for hotels but if you enroll yourself in the Marriott bonvoy or Hilton honors can you still get 5x the points on their property? If you did? Thank you because I want the Marriott bonvoy brilliant and I like Hilton properties too but I don’t want to get both when I can just get the American Express platinum card if I can get 5x is good enough for me.

    I have the CSR and find it so much more valuable and flexible: CSR has all the same purchase benefits and I actually use the card for travel and food for 3x. What does everyone purchase on the AMEX Platinum? Sebby doesn’t do airfare or hotels - beside high end tech equipment what else do you use it for? Also I don’t use Uber or travel credits or Saks. Considering Hilton Aspire. Thoughts?

      Aspire is a solid pick: th-cam.com/video/k5fKujyPGxQ/w-d-xo.html
      Sounds like the Platinum doesn't make sense for you. For me it's a $50 effective AF to get into lounges (Centurion and Delta SkyClub since I fly Delta mostly for domestic).
      Insurance is cherry on top. Like most things in life, your mileage may vary (YMMV).

    Do you know if the hotel points (ie from Amex Hilton Honors or Amex Marriott Bonvoy) can be converted to Amex Membership Rewards points? If so, do you know what is the conversion rate and how to convert them? I know MR points can be converted into Honors Points or Marriott Bonvoy Points. Thank you.

    Okay, I know this has nothing to do with the video but I need help with something from people that know a lot about credit. I have no credit history what so ever just starting brand new in credit. So I’ve recently just applied for a secured discover it card with a limit of 200$ was (accepted) what I was thinking was paying my phone bill with the credit card phone bill is like 120$ then paying off that 120$ balance quickly with my bank debit card then use the 200$ balance throughout the month for Uber rides, foods, expenses pretty much then paying back in full again whenever the monthly statement comes like that I can pay off the credit in full every month. So what I’m asking is me using the card for my phone bill then paying it back with my bank quickly even worth it? Sorry if this was confusing appreciate any feedback on this just want to know if this method will help me increase my credit effectively.

    Is there any new data points on how to use the Amex Platinum $200 airline credit. Before, we were able to get Delta $50 gift cards, but I herd that that has been phased out. Does anyone know if you travel internationally and purchase Duty Free items onboard the flight, would this trigger the Amex credit? Thanks! @asksebby

  • @sunshine0282

    Will downgrade to Gold. Amex prices always $10+ higher when booking hotel or airline tickets through their website. These extra dollars outweigh the 5X points you'd receive.

    I still like the 5x travel categories (AMEX travel, Airlines, Uber). I never use the Platinum outside the US. Lounge access is worth the annual fee. I am a fan!

    • @patricks6732

      5x adds up fast with first class airfare. Individual Sky club membership is $545 a year so the annual fee is basically a wash with that alone.
