I have mixed feelings about this event. In the previous event there was a clear advantage in playing with friends and building fields cooperatively. In this event if you build a linkstar with x people and you make (as an example) 1/x of the links you get on average 1/x of the total points which means that you roughly maintain the same link to points ratio as if you were playing alone. There might be advantages in playing cooperatively on tasks with fixed overheads like clearing blockers, but I'm not sure how much is really worth. If I were Niantic I would have lowered the threshold for starting to gain the bonus points (currently at 400 links) and I would have either given a fixed bonus to everyone involved on top of the 3 standard points and the randomly chosen 20 points bonus, or I would have scrapped the random bonus and multiplied the standard 3 points per link with a multiplier scaling with the number of players involved in the linkstar
Rural lone wolf agent here. I chose to prepare 2 decay field engines with 35 decay portals in total. In 4 weeks I should be able to collect 10.000 points and also I should be able to get my platinum Mind Controller medal quicker.
It would be nice if the bonus points started from like... 100 links. Considering inventory limit, it's hard to pull off 400 links woithout less than 5 players. Last event was nice, because you could plan fielding with 2-3 agents, which was far more managable
@@FraiSaY for the graphs, I wrote a python program to simulate the bonus points. For all my link and field animations I use an animation tool I wrote myself ages ago.
This global challenge absolutely sucks 😂😂 I'm in a city of 57,000 population roughly, and nearby a more portal dense city of 155,000 population and it's still going to be impossible. There's also other conflicting factors, like being able to even farm as many keys that would be needed when most of us only have available inventory for 150-200 extra items, and that's with CORE's membership boost of 500 extra inventory space. Most people's key lockers are all filled up after all these years as well.
Question about shielding the main portal to prevent accidental kills ... is there actually any point using any shields at all, or will this great number of links mean the portal hits the maximum defense threshold with no shields ?
@@57Cell i'm asking about the maximum shielding effect... it goes to 95% right? will it get all that way from a certain number of links with no shield? (Thinking that ideally we want to use all 4 mod slots for multihacks/heatsink)
@@Wolfinator234 if this nine-year-old formula is accurate, there's a maximum amount of protection available from links, so you'd want shields as well: www.reddit.com/r/Ingress/comments/390kkd/defense_bonus_of_links/crzby4p/
Portals only have outbound link limits. You can link TO a portal as many times as you want, granted there aren't any links in the way and it's in range

Love being a rural player....
yeah, that 400 minimum is insane...
Clever, a circular medal for a "circular" event
Great explanation, by chance which tools do you use to draw graphs in motion, or live ap + sm points with the star?

Ohh!! Can we do a cross faction link star???
"just an 800 link star" !
@@Wolfinator234 😅 good point
i really love the idea but 400 is just insane for people living in small non-walkable cities

I thought the maximum of outgoing links is 40 from a portal with 4 ultra link mods. what am I missing here?

What bonus we can get if we build starburst alone?
You'll just get all of the bonus points instead of split points :)
