    Something interesting about the 90’s is that it probably will be the last time that the youth believes everything is ok. Nowadays kids and teenagers alike both know things aren’t good, and won’t be fooled into believing that they are. It’s just a shame that my generation won’t attempt to vote in what they see as good change.

    I submit a change for "shock pen". They should have two pens that look identical (i.e. one that shocks and one that doesn't) and John has to click the pen to find out if he was right or not. This would be much more fun to watch, and would be much scarier for John. Win win.

    I am no fan of the Clintons, but media focus on politicians' private life is just pathetic. I couldn't care less if any politician is homosexual, had or is currently having an affair or lives in a free love commune.
    I can't help but think this obsession with the private lives of politicians is just an extension of America's insane obsession with the lives of "celebrities".

      Jared Thomson True, I mean, My 20's will possibly be fun, But some people just take it too far and just seem so stupid and devoid intelligence that I just don't see how a lot of people enjoy a lot of 'trends' that are going on.

    • @notmynormalusername1
      @notmynormalusername1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Tyler Wisner I would probably agree with the importance you're putting on self education and being inquisitive, but that doesn't make it objectively wrong to want to focus on social trends and pop culture. You're not better than them, you're just doing more of what you value the most. They probably feel you're doing less of what they value and think less of you for the same reason. Be the better person and just be kind and understanding that other people value other things and sometimes that will make intellectual conversation impossible and possibly incredibly frustrating. :)
      How about this for a thought: you're watching educational videos on youtube while other people are actively building and innovating. Are you less important? Are you worse? Are you less worthy? Intellect is both a web and a gradient and looking down hill isn't really worth the effort and sure as hell wont teach you much. There's always someone who's going to think you're wasting your time on bullshit compared to them. Just focus on yourself and be smarter than you were yesterday. It'll work out fine for everyone.

      Max Power But remember this, under Bill Clinton, the FBI and the CIA's Budgets were cut to 33 %. So the terrorists that perpetrated 9/11 were able to come into and train for two to four years under his admin before the attacks, this after the '93 attack on the World Trade Center, which i and my brother tradesmen repaired the Somalia Debacle, Countless other Terrorist attacks on Embassies, and Americans around the Globe, and lest We forget, Chinagate, where Bill ""allowed TOP SECRET MILITARY INFO, to go to China, through HIS DONORS. Treason in the Simplest, form, and HIGH TREASON, In MY BOOK> He should have been Tried. I wonder why He wasn't held accountable. And with all his Preying on Women, and Hitlery's personal funding in smearing those same women, Bill either Raped, or Sexually Assaulted, She knew every step of the way, so She allowed the Rape Culture to go on, and she claims to be a Feminist.. Let's see, She was fired for LYING and UN-Ethical actions when involved in Nixon Proceedings, { By Her Democrat Boss}, SHe Lied In the case of a Pedophilie Rapist, that she represented Who's 12 year old Victim, was in a Coma from her clients and his accomplice's BEATING and RAPING, and the Victim, could NEVER have Children Because of the severity of the Brutal assault , to her Abiding and Abetting Bill's Raping, and Preying, on Young Women, To Lying, {yes , again} when she Set up, and was involved in Vince Foster's Death, Chris Stevenson's Death, in Benghazi, Only the sixth American Ambassador killed since Our Country Began, and the first Since Jimmy Carter in the late Seventies. who, in my book, was the worst pResident, until Obama. Who has definitively took first place for the worst pResident of the White Mosque { since HE has claimed to be MuSlime three times}. And Hitlery herself, has brought up Barry's Place Of Birth. Oh, The Tangled Web She Weaves. Black Widow, Google, How many people have died, Who were personally involved with the Clintons, and their Personal Businesses, and the Dirt involved. As for 9/11/01, I had already served, been out, but when that shit happened, I attempted to go back in, and My MasterGunny Brother told me , 'You Did your part, you did what had to be done, let the next generation do their part" . I'll always wonder if I could've helped, even a little bit. . . . SEMPER FI. . . '83-88. . . .Carry On. .

      DeathsCastile Obama has not done much for the U.S. economy. He has yet to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans (remember, top earners tax rates were at 90 percent during WW2 and the economy grew faster than any other time in the 20th century), he has yet to raise the federal minimum wage, and Obamacare is a far cry from a successful government program. Had he not catered to the right-wing with Obamacare we could have had a single-payer healthcare system, which would have been an FDR-esque move.

    • @deathscastile9308
      @deathscastile9308 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem being that he has to work around 80 years of new legislation that was put up by monetary puppets and figureheads like George Bush. The entire reason the economy crashed is because of George Bush being the puppet for [Insert Conspiracy or Billionaire Here] and tearing down half of the work that FDR had put in place. Included in that is housing legislation, of which other select presidents helped put in place as well. The housing market collapsed because of Bush's narrow minded ransacking of housing legislation. He went and put in new legislation that said that anybody with two shoes could buy a 300,000$ house, I mean come one, what was he thinking... He reorganized how everything could work, so people just went and reprinted a non-existent woman's signature on thousands of housing leases, loans and filings. That's why half of the notes that debt collectors try and collect on are completely invalid. For all we know, thousands of homes just have no owner. The banks, being the ones who did this, just up and collapsed for being total fucking imbeciles, and the government had to come in and clean up their mess. The housing bubble popping had a ripple effect, destroying large portions of the economy, killing off thousands of businesses, and making the job as president suck. That's not even the forefront of the problems brought on by the recession. Even when that's added up, we have the racist, white, Christian majority GOP hating Obama with every fiber of their being for being not only a Democrat, but black too! They pulled every trick in the book to halt his progress, even going so far as to go on national television and announce that they refuse to work with him to restore their crippled economy. I mean, the list of shit goes on and on. It goes from economy, to public opposition, to foreign affairs, to everything few and far between. Our country was a mess. Obama has been dealing with a bloody mess for six years, of course it's hard to get shit done! And you guessed it, Hilary Clinton will be Truman, she's going to sweep in with her huge approval poles and do all the stuff Obama couldn't and we'll hope to god that our kids don't fuck things up again in 80 years.

    It still amazes me that John has the ability to talk about these political figures without bringing personal politics into it. In the world of Twitter, Facebook, FOX news, and MSNBCs, there isn't anyone who just gives straight facts without putting a personal spin on it. Once again, John manages to do this while at the same time entertains (and is pretty funny too). So I have to commend him and the staff of Crash Course. This truly is an awesome channel.

    I have no idea how you could include Don't Ask Don't Tell as a failure if you're a proponent of gay rights.
    Civil Rights has historically, as *you* have pointed out in your videos, been a matter of "baby steps". No, it wasn't a sweeping reform, but considering the state of our country *even now* the compromise was a massive accomplishment, and should only be viewed as such.

    • @BelLordWilliams
      @BelLordWilliams 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I have to agree here. DADT had the effect of decreasing discrimination in the military - which created the environment that would allow the current military leadership to claim that disposing of DADT (and the associated dismissal of gay troops) would not hurt the fighting capability of the troops.

    • @MsSphinx91
      @MsSphinx91 10 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I think he meant failure as in it wasn't what he set out to do. It was just a half measure, which probably didn't make him popular with the general public at the time. But yeah, in the long run, it was an important baby step.

    • @LeeTheBennett
      @LeeTheBennett 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Except that when you really look at it, DADT didn't really do anything. Sure, gays could serve, but it if it came out that they were gay, either by their own admission or if evidence was found, they would get the boot.
      That's why it was a failure for the gay rights movement.

    • @zedek_
      @zedek_ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Lee Bennett
      What you're not taking into account was that "gays could serve" legally... that's a *huge* step, and one that was very much necessary in order to reach the point we are currently at.
      You're really underestimating the importance of that; especially for the time in which it was passed.
      That is why it's nothing but a success for the gay rights movement. It doesn't matter if the step that was taken wasn't a huge sweeping one that removed all legal discrimination.
      A win is a win, no matter how small.

    A small error on the Yugoslavia information. The bombing of NATO was because of desputes (to put it lightly) between Serbians and Albanians in Kosova. Detona was before all that. Also at that time Yugoslavia had fallen apart to contain just Serbia and Montenegro. Only Serbia was bombed, and the facilities mostly bombed were factories that were later bought by American companies (Phillip Morris and US Steal, to name a couple), for a shamefully small percentage of their realistic cost.
    There were also bombings of military hospitals, passenger trains full of people, and the White Palace, which to Serbia was something like White house to the US, except with a longer history. And don't even get me started on the toxic materials contained in the bombs that were aimed at the largest cities...

      @fillosof66689 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curious slowpoke here. Can you please elaborate on your position regarding the 'acts of ethnic cleansing' and the fact that most commonly re-translated position states that only one side (namely Serbians) have committed them.
      Alternatively, you can point me towards any sources on the matter that you consider good and reliable (in English or Russian).

    • @JMilutinify
      @JMilutinify 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ardell Gough You are right about the KLA being recognized as a terrorist group, but the phrase "terrorist" is a very misleading term. Generally any act of violence (particularly armed and strategically planed) by a group can be called an act of terrorism. Whether a group is called terrorist depends on whose side you're on. If you're on their side, then they are noble freedom fighter. If you aren't, they are monstrous terrorists.
      The conflict between Serbs and Albanians about Kosovo lasts for as long as Slavs have been on the Balkans. Since the 6th century AD these two ethnic groups have been interchanging on Kosovo and there will always be a dispute over who has greater claim over the land. Sometimes these disputes are barely there, and sometimes they are the cause of fights between armed forces on both sides. And because both sides were very well armed and organised (Serbs by the YU army, and KLA by Albanian and Middle Eastern weapons) this was a civil war where both militarized sides shared the blame, and all civilians regardless of their ethnicity payed the price.
