Lets just say if I was working on not the proper engine, but the backup engine, hours before the race in front of all those people, knowing your opponent is likely making 3 times the horsepower, I wouldnt be as calm and upbeat as Jon, I would be screaming obscenities and throwing torque wrenches through every glass window I could find XD

Nice video. Jon is a glutton for punishment. Blasphemi was not even at 100% and still running great times. In true roadkill style Finnagan was a great sportsman/team player.
The shot with Chase screaming Noooooooooo during the death wobble was by far one of the most raw and realistic shots Hoonigan has ever produced. Love this series, would love to see more of both of these cars/ guys, and Kall out Kings.
Props to everybody involved for this actually being able to go through with the race with both cars going down the track. Who knows, if this never happened Jon’s car could still be stuck at the garage
For all the things we buy everyday in life if its coffee beer smokes. Cut down one of those a tiny bit and thats the monthly subscription fee for MT on Demand... a small fee to pay. Will admit I was like the lot of you claiming sell outs etc, but I'd say its worth it. In Aus we can't get some of the channels which is a letdown (license conflicts with local payTV company) For what I pay for in Stan/Netflix, and in turn save in either renting/buying movies/shows.. Im still way ahead.
That clutch burning out probably saved his life, because the death wobble would have really gotten ugly if that car had gotten to speed. Better kiss your momma and thank Jesus!
@@Mr.PudgeMuffin the suspension is not adjusted at all. massive negative camber makes it really instable in a straight line, it even looks like the tie bar is bent.... also looks like massive toe in, when you would like to have a little toe out to let the wheels straighten themselves out, while driving in a straight line. this most likely caused the wobble (oscillation near or on the resonance frequency), which was initiated by the shock of the engine abruptly loosing rpm thanks to the gear being smashed onto one of the rotating shafts in the gearbox (due to a leaking or badly bled clutch system). in addition the prehistoric steering system of gassers amplifies this problem. all forces are directly translated to the steeringwheel and not dampened at all. all guesses tho, might be total junk what i wrote here....

@@ryansellsdrugs most people from that town are....different...its a very forgetable place. and even though im only 20ish minutes from it, i can count the times i've been there on one hand. i have lived roughly that far for the majority of my life and i honestly couldnt tell you how to get there...or find it on a map...but the parts store he met him at is 5 minutes on a heavy traffic day from my house. not that breaking down anywhere actually on the highway is good, but that bridge is a tight 2 lane that immediately after has a decent hill with a semi lane, so basically all of the semis/heavy vehicles are in the left lane ready to get over. the danger was not in anyway played up...in fact, it was a bit down played.
I know this didn't turn out the way the hoonigan boys wanted, and they seemed very defeated before it even began, but it was still a blast to watch. I'm just stoked they are getting into some drag racing content and feel like this will be a great addition to the channel. Hopefully they can get some redemption in future seasons and you can get some traction going behind some new drag content. Seems to me overall there is a bigger fanbase nationwide in drag racing than drifting, track racing, autocross, gymkhana, desert trucks or rally. It's a lot more accessible to most people because it's so easy to get into. Would love to see a build to take on some of the other big drag focused youtubers like Cleetus, MCM, or boostedboiz just to name a few, or maybe even some of the street outlaws guys.

It seems like all I get done is waiting for parts to come in the mail.
You should probably check out Finnegans youtube channel. Getting Blasphemi there was just as hard as what Jon went through. Finnegan was fighting engine troubles the whole way with water issues. He just had his whole rear suspension rebuilt with a different setup that was untested. I'd say they both struggled equally to have their cars ready for that race.
He didn't tree him, Finn's nose lifts first, Finn was pedaling the clutch it at the beginning until he got it to work then Chase had back to back issues. I think it would have been close if both rand good but I think Blasphemi would have won by by 0.5-1.0 cars.
actually really liked the captioned transition when they were taking the car to the dyno nice change of pace from the normal "this is what we are about to do" transition you guys normally do.

As soon as that death wobble started up my first thought was... Wait, they let Brad install the front end?!!!???!!! if I had to guess it probably wasn't the clutch it was most likely the throwout bearing or clutch fork/hydraulics. Had a similar issue this fall with my 454/sm465. I could get it going in first and shift into second but after that it was all bang shifts. Turns out my Novak hydraulic slave cylinder wasn't getting the proper throw because I had screwed up (love the product, works great now that I sorted out my install problem). Now it's burnouts all day long until I blow driveshafts and u joints weekly!
Hats off to Chase and Finnegan, all the Hoons, Roadkill, Cleetus and 1320 and all the other TH-camrs and Hot-rodders bringing the sport back. Extra props to Finn for showing true sportsmanship in helping wrench on the competition's car and to Chase for returning the sportsmanship. You don't see that kind of integrity in the NFL or NBA. There's a big difference between losing and coming in second, especially against fisrt-class competition. There were no losers here, only a first and second place finisher.
I love Blasphemy and Mike and glad he won. But really wish John would've had another day or two to sort out his car and make a better showing. Can't wait till the next one!
The only way John would have won is if Mike had catastrophic failure. After watching the lead up, it didn't seem like a competition but just a PR stunt. John never had a license or any practice what so ever.

I can't understand one thing. You guys agreed to this race like at least 7 or 8 months ago so why waited until just recently to start building the car. I mean look at Mike its taken him YEARS to perfect his car. It seems like Finn was taking it more seriously .I was expecting this result but I still feel a little bit disappointed. I wish you guys didnt post the video of Johns car yesterday and showing all the IG stories of the race i think it would have been more interesting to watch the final race instead of seeing all of seeing all about that stuff then post all the video of Johns car and the IG stories then, to me that makes more scene, just saying
they only added a spoiler after Jon was hiding his face so it was obvious he had lost. I was trying to not get any spoilers so I could watch the video first. I was disappointed they put out the build breakdown but ultimately I watched it once he had hidden his face and let the cat out of the bag
Tri-5 by fire is now my favorite race car of all time. Hands down. It's got the rag-tag thrown together look and grudge match losing history that somehow makes it perfect. This car will end up in a museum, not a junkyard.

That won't happen. Finnegan's goal with his car is to win his class at Drag Week, and to do that it needs to stay within the rules. I don't see it changing much from where it is right now, just get the engine problems fixed and get it dialed in. It would be awesome to see him go to Drag Week this year and run a 8 every day.

I can't understand one thing. You guys agreed to this race like at least 7 or 8 months ago so why waited until just recently to start building the car. I mean look at Mike its taken him YEARS to perfect his car. It seems like Finn was taking it more seriously .I was expecting this result but I still feel a little bit disappointed. And i get it was for fun but....
Have you ever built a car with a deadline? It's a complete pain in the butt... All the pre planning in the world isn't enough..
Mike just blew his car up this summer agian plus changed the rear end engineering and other stuff while still doing Roadkill shoots

Yea, I've made a choice to not follow any of my TH-cam people on Instagram. I'm a little behind reality, but it's new to me here.
It was live on NHRA TV, Hoonigan Instagram, Hoonigan twitch, and probably some other places.
They did put a spoiler alert at the start of the car video though... you could have stopped.
they only added a spoiler after Jon was hiding his face so it was obvious he had lost. I was trying to not get any spoilers so I could watch the video first. I was disappointed they put out the build breakdown but ultimately I watched it once he had hidden his face and let the cat out of the bag

Tri-5 by fire is now my favorite race car of all time. Hands down. It's got the rag-tag thrown together look and grudge match losing history that somehow makes it perfect. This car will end up in a museum, not a junkyard.
I must say....i freakin love Mike!....... But John....so much props for your follow through and your spirit throughout this whole promotion....i thoroughly enjoyed this ENTIRE event!!

I would laugh so hard if Mike shows up for the next race with a Proline billet Hemi and a Rossler 400 behind it. Jon might as well pick what shade of gold he wants his tattoo in if that happens. Lol.
That won't happen. Finnegan's goal with his car is to win his class at Drag Week, and to do that it needs to stay within the rules. I don't see it changing much from where it is right now, just get the engine problems fixed and get it dialed in. It would be awesome to see him go to Drag Week this year and run a 8 every day.

He had a chance, but that chance is if Blasphemi failed to run on 2 out of 3 races. Which, given that it's Mike's car, isn't THAT impossible :P
That's what made me respect Jon even more. He never backed down even though it was pretty clear who would win. I really hoped he would be able to run a good time though and I feel sorry that his car had troubles. Looking forward to the next challenge!
