- Just a quiet but stunning camp by the riverside on Dartmoor near Lydford in the Lanshan 1. I took out the new Edeuoey inflatable mat and was impressed with the quality and feel particularly the pillow although it is even too big for me!! and I always go XL. Also tried out the new Vango Ozone 40l pack to see if I could fit all my gear in and the first time with the Katadyn BeFree system. Impressed I must say.

Camping, I use a Garmin GPSMap 66i, to stay in touch with my wife. I understand what you mean, because my wife wants me to stay reachable as well, so I do my best to do so. I don't mind and it keeps her happy.
I think if my wife let me spent that much money in camping gear I'd buy a hilleberg 😂 seriously though, I'm thinking about the new tesla phone when it's out which has constant WiFi from their satellites. Definitely the way forward. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper I really try to keep my wife happy; I told her of the costs involved, and still she wanted the Garmin. It took, my household repair budget at the time, but I was going out that weekend. Never brought electronics out to the woods before, so the first time was a bit odd. Just normal to bring it now..

Banning areas or even banning wild camping completely is not gonna resolve the situation! Us LNT wild campers will continue camping as and where we please and so will the idiots.. Its cost but they need rangers patrolling 24/7.
I used the katadyn befree on my kayaking trip in Scotland just scoop up water from the loch and drink its a great bit of kit...

I note that everybody should take part in the consultation on the
Dartmoor National Park changes to the rules starting on the 20th of Sept
- the consultation that is. Most of it is sensible but they are
intending to ban hammock camping and close off lots of small areas
around the park which might affect peoples access. Go to their website
and subscibe to all their emails as the consultation itself is not yet
listed. Please pass this message on to interested parties. This is one
of very few areas in England that allows us to wildcamp, do make our
voice heard.

Nice one Mike, I agree wildcampers aren't the issue as we always LNT, it's the idiots that spoil it for us! I'm definitely looking for a smaller, lighter rucksack myself, will probably get a 50ltr for a bit of versatility 👍 I like the katadyn be free, but I'm not sure about the bag, if it bursts you're knackered, that's why I love my MSR Trailshot, which is still going strong with no issues at all👌👍 you do love your noodles at camp eh 🤣👍 the cookset is cool, the heat exchangers work really well, very similar to my OEX sola x 👌 Keep up the good work mate, catch you soon, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁
Yeah my trail shot was a nightmare I found. So much hard work trying to get water pumped through it I changed to the sawyer but that's slowed right down too and the bags burst. I'm gonna get a hydrapak I think to go with this. 👍
Nice little chilled out camp spot, well you would have been chilled if you didn't have to walk 10 miles to send a text message. I usually say to the wife, if I'm not home by a certain time then phone the police, but I always say an hour later than the time I will get home just incase I am actually late lol. I had the soba noodles the other day to check them out,very good indeed. Did gez give you the idea on my latest video? Nice photography work, very beautiful place. I actually stayed awake on this occasion, eyes did get a little heavy at times though. That back pack is the one dave Outdoors had if I'm correct, mixed reviews on that one. Some say it is uncomfortable. But what do I know if I've never owned it. What do you think of it? Looks a great lightweight pack though. Thanks for sharing and look forward to your next Adventure👍
Hey Dai. Didn't see Gez have them. I've had them before but ages ago and saw them on the day when I went out to buy food and though I'd give them a try. The pack feels good so far but not been far with it so time will tell. The large front pocket needs to be stretchy though but it's handy having pockets in the lid again. Try 40 grams quick oats,10 g brown sugar, 10g powder milk, sprinkle cinnamon couple bits chopped up dried fruit. Your welcome

That Vango backpack looks like a great choice for just over 1kg. Also, about whether you should remove the 'novice' or not...I think you need to buy a Hilleberg tent before you are allowed to drop that. Maybe go with a completely different name...how about "The Real Paul Messner"? Just a thought...

Hello again, Michael. Could relate to so much in this video. The things we do for our significant other. 🤣. There was a lot of beautiful camera work; in particular I loved the colours in the low level sequence going through the bracken.
I hope you don't lose the right to legally camp on Dartmoor. You've been so fortunate to have that. In the Peak Disfrict I have to slink around like some kind of fugitive looking for a place to hide out. Thought my number was up recently. I got spotted by a shepherd and he came over to investigate. He came to within 20 yards or so; we made eye contact and just for a few seconds time stood still. Then he just turned away and the universe started expanding again. He must have decided to give me a pass.
In N. E. Lincolnshire, where I live, there is a large expanse of beautiful mixed woodland and open grassland. The owner very graciously allowed public access. I absolutely loved spending time in there. Then guess what happens? Mindless yobs started camping out, getting drunk, lighting fires, leaving their crap all over the place when they left. Not suprisingly the landowner has withdrawn access and it's now private once again. Makes me sick it really does.
Anyway on a more cheerful note I really loved this video. My favourite so far. Nice lighter for a quid! You pay about £16 for a Soto lighter on Amazon!!

Thanks Frederick. That's the problem right there, the fly campers break the current rules so they make more rules, which the fly campers will simply ignore as they do what they want. The only people who get punished are the law abiding campers which is just so unfair. Thanks for watching though. Hoping to get out again tonight. Weather not looking good though. 👍
Hi Mike just a tip for such a seasoned camper as yourself is a dual SIM phone. I bought a Doggee S60 a rugged phone. It holds two sim cards on two different networks. One network will be 4G and the other 3G, now depending on signal strength the Sims can be swapped around to potentially give the best signal strength.
I am on two sim only deals with unlimited calls, texts and 10GB data each. Total cost £20 per month. My Tesco SIM is O2 and the Plusnet is EE, this increases the chance of a signal. I also had a third option of Vodafone mifi device for mobile broadband but that was on an 18 month contract for £20 a month and decided not to renew the contract. I always had some form of communication 👍
Good thinking. I'm maxed on outgoings though but my phone can do dual sim so maybe one day. Having O2 on my phone and Vodafone on work I normally get something but that was a real black spot. 👍

Just sat down with a Thatchers Haze to watch your video, brilliant as per usual pal. Such a shame that some people can’t abide by simple rules that allow you to wild camp legally. The rest of the country has no chance with those plonkes.
I know. The annoying thing is they're going to reduce where you can legally wild camp which will be ignored by fly campers as they are currently ignoring it anyway so a bit pointless. Re yer pillow slipping. Put the top of your sleeping pad up inside a jumper or something then stuff your pillow up inside too.
Also you can get apps to download on your phone that will tell you where your nearest phone mast is and where to get coverage. Mobile signal finder is one but there's others.not much good if no signal but worth looking at before you camp so at least you know what direction to walk in.

Hopefully this comes across as constructive. I've only just come across your channel and skimmed through a bunch of videos. I enjoy the subject and your commentary is good, but there's something a bit off with the processing of the video itself. It's almost like you're using a 'green screen'. There's a fuzzy halo around you and the background is out of focus in most of your videos. This particular one is not as bad as the others at all - until near the end. I don't like being critical but it's really off-putting to me and probably others too. Good luck with your channel.
Yeah he was in his house really, green screens are great. I don't use them, I go on real adventures I do. Check my channel out. Real adventures mate.i don't use green screen but i like novice wild camper though. One of my favourite channels.he probably will change the name to his channel soon to pro camper. Great channel. Hi fishly. Thank you for your comment and I happy to hear any feedback good or bad. I occasionally try out the portrait video mode on my Samsung which keeps the main subject in focus and blurs the background and I've found that in some instances it looks great and others a but odd. I was watching Lone Wolf 902 a while back and could have swore he had a green screen at one point as he was doing something similar but using a high end camera the effect looked even better (or worse depending on how you view it) I've had a few comments saying they really like it and one other saying it looked like a green screen so maybe I'll re look at it going forward. Thanks for your honest opinion though and yes, constructive criticism is always welcome. 🙏👍

Sobra noodles you boil them till cooked about 3 mins then you strain all the water off, once strained then you add source and mix till the sauce covers the noodles, done. Much nicer strained and can taste the sauce more. There is another version of the same noodles but in a plastic pot we’re the lid is a strainer and the above is how you cook them 😀👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
😂 the instructions did say to boil till the water was gone but maybe different versions 🤣👍
@@NoviceWildCamper sobra noodles come in a package or a pot. Same noodles, same brand but on the pot version it explains how to do them better and the pot lid is a strainer and it tells you to boil for around 3 mins then strain off as the kit has holes in it as is a strainer, once strained mix in sauce till coated then eat. The packet version are not as clear on instruction with them being foreign food. These are my favourite noodles love them but I got the pot versions first also try the chilli flavour bloody lovely.
I think I'll be trying them all after that one. Good idea though as i can strain using the lid on my pot which will save them welding to the bottom of the pot 👍

How's the sac in a mac lol I've got a befree filter they good, they fit on the Cnoc bladders also but get the right one that fits the bladder, how was the 3 season inner I'm not a fan, great video looking forward to the next 1 👍👍👍

Yeah my REI quarter dome is the perfect option for this weather. All mesh and breathable. That is the filter I own also. I'm still alive so it's good. Make sure you get the wide mouth size cnoc bag. There are 2 different sizes.
Might go for the hydrapak. Looks good and cheaper. You know me, I ain't a millionaire like you 🤣

Fly Campers are a scourge and it’s Fly Campers who give wild campers a bad name but at least the press differentiate the difference now and under stand it’s not wild campers who cause all the shit.
True, just a shame that dartmoor will stop responsible Wild campers from camping in certain areas while irresponsible ones will still go. They break the law anyway so it won't change their mentality. 👍

Another important point being missed her is a lot of guys wild camp for mental health reason, with male suicide at its highest ever levels and very little help available, it’s a man thing mentality not helping matters. The government putting even more mental pressures on men with tax and insurance increases and hitting the working class really bad, we are dropping like flies but the pressure keeps being piles on men. Wild camping and the ability to get out there and unplug is saving mens lives.

@@NoviceWildCamper they be doing what Scotland do with wild camping allowed with designated spots also or why not a wild camping license you pay yearly for let’s say £50 then this is invested back into the beauty spots and camp areas then if wild camping in these areas and you can’t produce a license your fined on the spot let’s say £1,000 this will stop the fly campers but allow serious wild campers to enjoy what they love they are bringing this in across a lot of American states. The government make money, investment into beauty spots and clean up the shit going on and this supports wild campers too.
I suggested exactly the same thing in a Facebook group once and got shot down in flames. Everyone keeps saying to be quiet about wild camping and keeping it underground cos its not allowed anywhere else in England and they'll just make it illegal rather than frowned upon.

Forgot to say I have been making my own porridge mix in the foil pouches. It’s all trial and error and you make it to your taste but 50-60g of porridge oats, 20g of dried skimmed milk powder and the depending on how sweet your tooth is 20g of brown sugar. I just pour to just above the mixture in the bag, close it and in 3 minutes and a stir it’s done. Also experimented with a handful of raisins or granola or both. Oh and don’t forget a spoonful of cinnamon. Like you say, so much cheaper.

You are so right about banning wild camping, unfortunately I don't have much confidence the councillors voting will be able to think through your reasoning. In theory yes but they're not managing at the moment. There's just not enough resources to cover it is the problem. Personally I think we should be allowed to throw petrol on anyone having a fire on the Moor 🤣

I'm enjoying it. The one thing the naturehike is missing is the brain storage which I like in the ozone 👍

Great camp buddy, I'm the same as you, I tried a rucksack with an airflow system, and I still had a wet back, going stick with my ace Vango F10 GR 45 👍
It was a lovely little spot. The pack was good but I have concerns around the quality of the stretch side pockets. They don't seem to like being filled to much. I got loads in my naturehike one no problem and they're as strong as anything. I'd expect a make like vango to be better than the cheap naturehike but just goes to show. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Ive not had any issues at all with my Vango F10, its been a brill pack, did a basic weight weigh in and I was surprised, I'm at 7.64kg 👍
I'm always around the 9k mark but I carry all my luxury gesr and it's fine. My first ever outing I was at 25k!!! That nearly killed me 🤣 so anything under is a bonus. I might strip it down one day to see how low I can get. 👍

Yeah I'm tempted with a quilt. Ice flame looks a good deal but don't think it's good for deep winter.
Always enjoy your videos! And managed to get the coffee pods now as well! Would always recommend making your own porridge mix for the morning in the boilie bags, one of those instant pots with some extra raisins, banana chips etc much better than a £5 instant meal!
Definitely going to have a go at that. Cant be any worse but I'd like to try it with proper porridge and powdered milk as I find the ones you use water with a bit, well, watery. Be fun to experiment. Atb 👍
Use a couple or maybe even one and a half of the pots and different flavours to mix it up and then add your own trail mix so its all ready to go. I find it better sometimes to add hot powdered milk but less than needed so its thicker

Dartmoor are announcing the reduction of camping on 20th so will know then but I've seen the map already. It's not too bad but will only get worse. Not sure why my time lapses shake though. The camera is solid but it keeps jumping. Odd.
